TorontoPeople’s Committee of the National Congress along with other concerned citizens and organizations in Toronto call for a Demonstration to all Eritreans who believe in Human Right, Justice and Democracy To come out and stand for our People!

A group of around 50 Eritreans, all men bar one, yesterday held a peaceful demonstration in front of the Law Courts in Valletta, calling on the Maltese government and international community to help in the evacuation and protection of some 2,000 Eritrean asylum seekers trapped in Tripoli, as the crisis in Libya shows no sign of abating.

As we speak, seven Eritrean refugees are stranded at one Air port in Ecuador, Guayaquil Airport, and they have been threatened that they will be forced to return to Eritrea.  At least two of them are women and one has health condition. They are crying for help as they will face persecution and harsh punishment if they are forced to return back to Eritrea.

The Security Council imposed an arms embargo, travel bans and asset freezes on top Eritrean officials. The sanctions imposed on the regime in Eritrea can have comparative. advantage for the opposition forces if they use it efficiently while it has absolute disadvantage to the dictator in Eritrea.

December 8, 2009 — It is said that dictatorship employs peculiar techniques to maintain grip on power, and chief among those techniques is the use of fear; and once the people stop fearing the dictator, the entire system crumbles. The dictatorship of the National Congress Party (NCP) in Khartoum, led by President Omar al-Bashir, is currently on test whether the people still fear the system.

Dear Asena listeners and readers, as you probably know, Asena is being fully funded by a few Eritreans who live all over the world.  The transmission fee to Eritrea has been a challenge but Asena was able to stay on the air because of few committed individuals.  The extraordinary work that Asena is doing is not a secret. Asena has been getting positive feedback from inside and outside the country.  And those encouraging words have been motivating us, Asena Media Foundation and the few individuals, whoa re determined to move forward and do whatever it takes to speak out for the poor and the weak, young and old.

Four Swedish papers are coordinately campaigning for the release of the Eritrean-Swedish journalist, Dawit Issack, who has been detained in a secret detention camp by President Isaias’s government since 2001. The daily papers which are believed to have great influence on the Swedish public opinion dedicated their editorial and front pages for the “Release Dawit Issack” campaign. Besides, they called on their government to step up its influence and pressure for the release of the journalist.
