Now that the eyes of the world are on those who wish, as we Eritreans do, to depose the dictator, there has never been a better moment to demonstrate and protest publicly.
Summary: Isaias is an austere and narcissistic Dictator…. He is paranoid and believes Ethiopian PM Meles tried to kill him and that the United States will attempt to assassinate him.
We have never criticised the PFDJ leadership, particularly Isaias Afewerki, for his Ethiopian or Tigrean roots.
Mengistu was a dictator and Hailesellassie was a despot or an absolute monarchy. Nevertheless, the tactics they used to oppress the Eritrean people are too lenient by PFDJ standards.
Four countries yesterday signed a treaty that would pave way for equitable use of the River Nile waters. However, Egypt and Sudan refused to put pen to paper on the treaty that would end their near-absolute rights on the use of the Nile.

Isaias Afewerki led a guerrilla army that helped to overthrow the Ethiopian dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam in 1991 and win independence for Eritrea, which the Red Sea country secured after a referendum two years later. As Eritrea’s president, he initially pledged to introduce multiparty democracy and free markets. But a border war with Ethiopia from 1998 to 2000 led to a sharp change in course.

It is rare that a country's entire condition can be summarised in a single word. That is true of Eritrea today, however; and the word is tragic. There are many indices of this tragedy, among them Eritrea's appalling record in hunger, poverty, human rights and freedom of the press. But the most painful is that of stolen promise. Eritrea's people fought so hard and succeeded in so much that was deemed impossible, only for their achievement to be snatched away from them. Today, Eritreans both inside and outside their Horn of Africa homeland are living with the consequences, and trying to understand why their nation's history took such a cruel twist. The answer, for very many of us, lies in the political character of one man: Eritrea's president, Isaias Afewerki.

It is time for Eritreans residing outside, especially those trained in the law, to start putting together charges against Isaias Afewerki for crimes such as conspiracy, murder, and treason. Enough evidences have been gathered to go forward and lay charges. Thus, a committee should be formed to oversee this task. It should be made up of Eritreans only. There should be no involvement of outsiders, except may be for technical help.
