Four countries yesterday signed a treaty that would pave way for equitable use of the River Nile waters. However, Egypt and Sudan refused to put pen to paper on the treaty that would end their near-absolute rights on the use of the Nile.

UN CallWe, members of the Network of Eritrean Civic Societies in Europe (NECS-Europe), believe that the targeted sanctions solely against the regime and not the Eritrean people are appropriate. As we are highly concerned with the deteriorating human rights situation in our country, we would have preferred to see the Resolution 1907 to have included the human right situation in our country as the compliance to lift the planned sanctions.

Reporters Without Borders wrote today, the third anniversary of Eritrean journalist Fessehaye “Joshua” Yohannes’ death in detention, to Manfred Nowak, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on torture and  other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, asking him to do everything possible to obtain an improvement in the conditions of journalists imprisoned in Eritrea.
