August 22, 2014 (SHIRE, ETHIOPIA) – Eritrean border guards have allegedly shot dead 10 Eritreans citizens as they attempted to cross in to Ethiopia, a recent escapee told Sudan Tribuneon Friday.
Samuel Gedion said he was among a group of 18 Eritreans who were trying to flee to Ethiopia two weeks ago.
“Ten of them were killed, while three of us made it to Ethiopia. I am not sure on the fate of the remaining five,” he said.
He said border guards had opened fired on the group without any prior warning.
One of those reportedly killed was a young woman who had recently finished 18 months of military service.
Eritrea has a long-standing shoot-to-kill policy against those who attempt to flee the repressive nation, dubbed the North Korea of Africa.
Eritrean opposition groups in Addis Ababa told Sudan Tribune that hundreds of young Eritreans have been killed by border guards in the past two years alone.
The regime in Asmara considers citizens who attempt to flee as traitors. Those who are caught are often subject to indefinite prison terms and serious human rights abuses.
Many others are also punished by death, particularly if they are believed to have links to exiled Eritrean opposition groups.
Many young people, however, are still prepared to take the risk, fleeing to neighbouring countries in protest against indefinite military service, serious human rights abuses and bad governance.
Last week, the A report released last week by the International Crisis Group (ICG) entitled Eritrea: Ending the Exodus? calls on the Eritrean government to implement the long-delayed 1997 constitution
The group underscored the need to address the country’s growing internal crisis which is behind the ongoing exodus, as well as calling for greater engagement with Eritrea – potentially ending a decade of isolation that has been both self-imposed and externally generated.
It urged the leadership in Eritrea to work towards gradual demobilisation of the military and undertake a restructure of the country’s economy in order to create wider job opportunities.
“The youth exodus from Eritrea is symptomatic of social malaise and growing disaffection with the Asmara regime,” said Cedric Barnes, the think tank’s director for the Horn of Africa.
“The state’s demand for the sacrifice of individual ambition to the greater good of the Eritrean nation – resigning oneself to, in effect, indefinite national service – causes more and more Eritreans to leave the country, even if that means risking their lives,” adds Barnes.
He called on Eritrea’s government to end the policy of indefinite national service and to work with international partners to build an economy that will create jobs for its citizens.
The secretive Red Sea nation currently has up to ten thousand political prisoners languishing in the country’s secret detention facilities, including in underground prisons and shipping containers.

    Dear Barnes,
You stated, QUOTE “The secretive Red Sea nation currently has up to ten thousand political prisoners languishing in the country’s secret detention facilities, including in underground prisons and shipping containers. UNQUOTE.
However the figure you have is so optimistic and it should probably be before the year 2000. Now it is expected somewhat between 35 – 40,000 political prisoners. You can immagine we have more prisons than hospitals and clinics in Eritrea. More prsions are built the last few years than schools.

“who is Eritrean enemy, how can we solve is mentioned by Hizbawi minkisikas niharnet. Let’s execute it before being too late.”

    wolde

Brother, the dictator is not afraid, because he knows that nobody is trying to harm him.
He is in the city going with friends for a drink, or even to see one of his concubines.
In Massawa people know where he is living, some even say he passes the night on a boat. Those who know him closely say that, sometimes he is drunk to the extent that he doesn’t even know where he is. This means there are a lot of people around him who want him to stay in power, obviously for self interest, or because they too take blame for crimes committed against Eritreans, so they feel if his gone it won’t be long before they too face justice.
Those who continue to issue statement after statement on who should be killed first, as if a matter of such importance and gravity should be first discussed on a public forum, should know well that, if they are really serious and determined to do something, in my culture it’s a shame to talk about it. If you really want do it, no need to talk about it.
While the enemy is dancing and clapping hands in a public square to tell people that they are all a bunch of cowards, you don’t pass time arguing on petty issues.
This unfortunate situation will continue for some time, at least until those confused by the regime’s propaganda take him out of their hearts and minds.

    berihu,

You have tried to conceal your woyane identity by muddying your worthless rhetoric. Nevertheless, you did not succeed because your hideout was too shabby for my boundless intuitive acuity.

    Genuine Eritreans,

As I said previously that the reason the con artist and tigrai impostor isaias afewerqi is still sneering at us is because our people, owing to their ancient wisdom, have long realized that the so called “opposition” represent the worst threat to their Sovereignty, their country’s Unity and Territorial Integrity.

They are right. The ” opposition” are toothless and brainless papagalo of the villain woyane. Their origin can be traced to the dergi collaborator, Abdela Idris, who played a crucial role in the disintegration of Abai Jebha in 1981, in the aftermath of which, having declared the formation of new Jebah solely composed of the ethnic group of Tgre, he joined dergi to completely decimate our country by slicing it into two parts, Highland and Lowland.

It was the Mighty EPLFs who, nipping in the bud these two conspirators, not only saved our country from complete annihilation but also, having routed out dergi and its surrogate, the now defunct soviet union, crowned our people with their cherished Dream of Independence. The Mighty EPLFs Shall Live in our Hearts and in the Hearts of our Descendants for Ever, and We shall always preserve their Legacy no matter what!!

Who would forget the woyane Manifesto of abai tigrai of 1977, in which it claimed Eritrea as its part and parcel save the traitor? It was to realize this evil dream that the now dead meles zenawi relieved siye from his position as defense minister and sent him to tigrai with explicit mission of starting border instigation with Eritrea.

Who would forget the evil woyane’s inhumane deportation of hundreds of thousands of Eritreans from every part of Ethiopia?

Who would forget the evil woyane’s forceful removal of our people from their own land, Badme and the alteration of the straight line of our Western Border with Ethiopia into curved one? All that inhuman crime was committed to temper with evidence that Badme was Eritrean integral territory.

In this connection, please remember the con artist and impostor isias afewerqi’s relinquishing of Badme to woyane as validated by Yemane Gebregergis, former secret Party member of EPLF in the interview he gave to Amaniel Eyassu. Do not forget also the secret interview of meles zenawi with Paul Henze, where he said that the con artist and impostor isaias Afewerqi did not subscribe to an Eritrean Independence.

The above facts and many others speak clearly that the 1995 to 1998 woyane border instigations and the 1998 illegal and unnecessary war the con artist launched was the result of conspiracy of the two, meles and isaias, which no genuine Eritrean should have any inkling doubt.

As the evil woyane undertook the border instigations, it advised Abdela Idris to expand and include the rest of the former member ELF leadership under a pseudonym of “fighting the dictatorship of the isaias”. Thereupon, invitations were mailed and the baboons flocked instantaneously to addis abeba.

As soon as they gathered in addis abeba, evil woyane foxily told them that it could dislodge isais afewerqi in no time and that it did not need any help from them during the war. But after the dislodgment of isaias, it needed to handover power to them because, since Eritrea was a Sovereign nation, it was illegal for it to stay. Of course, that was purely the embodiment of Libi Tigrai twi Twai.

Unfortunately, their baboon heads could not figure out the sugarcoated poison woyane fed them. Little did they know that were being framed to replay the role so called Andnet Party played in the decimation of Independent Eritrea . Naively overjoyed by the mirage of sitting in the Eritrean Political Power without shedding blood, they cheered woyane, but again the Sawa Lions forced woyane to bite its tongue, and to come to the table with its wiggling tail behind its legs. Please, do not forget in this connection the negative role the con artist and impostor isaias afewerqi played in order to lead the Sawa Lions to defeat. Of course in vain.

All the above facts are catalogued in the minds and hearts of our people. They also know that the terms “opposition, kidan etc.” the traitor use are misnomer purposely concocted for them by the evil woyane to mislead the genuine Eritreans into believing that they are real.

Equally fraud is their characterization, that the “PFDJs” are responsible for the current saga of our people. They do this knowing full well that the term “PFDJ” is a decoy for the Secret tegaru Party that is systematically decimating our country. We must, without any equivocation, all realize that it is a woyane-within; Demhit is its military wing, being primed, at opportune time, to strike the weakened Eritrean Defense Forces.

      What a lunetic person!

Meless and isaias work hand in hand and they made war!! For what purpose, to unite the two lands! And Siye and meless were together! After 23 years of pfdj, finding this kind of persons shows how many seek People we produce.

You can not Call tigrinya People ethiopians every time they dont do Things you wish them to do. Can you Call a tigrinya girl agame if she says no for Your proposal of dating her. I dont think so. What you have to do is goo on and find another one who thinks you are the appropriate person for her. But dont tell her that you take antidepressive tablets. This eplf saga destryed you for good.

Brother Dawit, as usual you are trying to persuade the public with the idea that, with the exception of Iseyas and a few who happen to be of Tigrean origin like him, the rest (dekebat) are either confused or victims of DIA with whom we should not have any problem.
Don’t you think this is a very malicious idea ?. If it’s meant to save the brutal regime’s top brass and its Gestapo the idea is very bad and nobody will buy it. PFDJ is a system and as such there is no way to rehabilitate it by removing DIA alone.
Those of you who think can put the country under the control of EPLF by saving PFDJ and condemning the opposition are living in an imaginary world, very much detached from reality.

    “wedi sahsah,
An Arabist who sold his language, identity and ass to the Arabs is calling deqebat Eritreans “Tigrean”!”

Haqi Tezareb aka Teclay, Paradiso, Kombishtato .. 11 other nicknames

Are you telling me Iseyas (your cousin) is a “Wedebat” ?

The problem is that you people hate your roots. You hate Tigreyas with the same intensity you hate indigenous Eritreans. Have a courage for a minute and show your pride for being a Tigrean !!. I am sure you hate to do that, instead you hide your identity by claiming to be Hamasienite .. Asmarino etc.
I have a lot of respect for Tigreyans who are proud of their culture and identity.
    Shame on you !!

Eritrea is a small land With many big complicated problem.

Today i saw one documentary about the grate forces behind the Control of Nile. And we are Lucky that we still alive. The egyptinas havent only forced not to use Ethiopia but all the other 10 east africans. Egypt has arbaized the sudanese for the sake of controlling Nile. Nile is not only for Egypt a Source of drinking water but it has been Power for Egypt. Though they were not the one who came With the idea of controlling the Whole nile, it is Britain, but they took over when the became free from great britian.

The idea of arabaizing Eritrea is not eritrean internal problem but it was/is external. How many sudanese sacrificed only for rejecting arabaization.

But now african having some strength to Egypt come to its rational thinking. And the Dod given water can be used by all. Countries like Egypt are used to misuse other countries and if their interest is fullfilled they just dont care about their relatioships. Example, palestine. Egypt salles more than 10 times palestine. If Egypt ignore palestine how easy it is to throw Eritrea away.

Many Ethiopians think as long as there is no war leave eritrean alone. But i think that is wrong. WE have to make Eritrea Our Family again. Ethiopia can not afford the enemity of Eritrea in this creazy world. Though the first task is to remove isaias and his followers.

Hundred and one countries could have invested in Eritrea if this lunetic was not a leader.
