100 meters long list containing the names of 17 306 people drowned trying to migrate. The list has been placed on the ground in such a way that EU MEPs are obliged to walk over entering European parliament in Strasbourg
I don’t see the importance to display the victims name in a form
of a rug to force higher officials walk over it .
As an Eritrean it is immoral , disrespectful , silly and irresponsible act to use the victims for political purpose . Imagine if they were
American victims how the public will respond .
Saleh ofcourse if they were americans, they would not need to take the dangerous trip to Itly, to begin with. Please don’t americanise everything. This is Eritrean, and African issues…and this is one best way to hit the consince of political leaders in Itly and beyond. Otherwise, it would have been sufficient they addressed the issue long before all of this.
Ofcourse if you are blind you can not see the point. This has nothing to be related with politics. But this is unfortunatley the reality that should be adressed by western powers if people like you and me are simply letting this to happen again and again.
The point is about this tasteless and respectful scene for the dead
and their loved once . Again do you think they will do the same if
they were from their own . How low can go down that low to let them use names of those victims in such manner for any reason .
And who was silent to let injustices survive for more than 20 years
I leave for history to judge . Anyway at the end of the day we all are at the same page and that is what counts more as far it concern me .
Regardless , Keep your head up with pride .
The dead of Lampedusa they are still in Italy and their loved once would like to bury them in Eritrea. One of the cause of the eritrean migration is the “national slavery”, You don’t think it’s political problem? If you don’t understand this I think you need to go to the doctor not to write here as someone who understand the human tragedy, the eritrean tragedy!
Their intentions may be good, but the way it’s done is bad. It’s like when DIA and his regime erected the shoes of ‘sandal’ as monument for those died heroically defending their nation. An ugly and most disrespectful symbol. It was clear from start DIA was not interested in the ideals they died for.
Symbolism and what you chose to represent them matters, specially when it’s about lofty human values that people should keep always high.
what a national shame is for Eritrea, Issais is the main responsible behind this killings but the west always see their interest and ignored him. they can put necessary pressure to stop his atrocities and sending young eritreans to the death camp the ‘Mediterranean sea’.
Sara, you said:
a) “what a national shame is for Eritrea” Yes, yes, yes
b) “but the West always see their interest” Yes, yes,yes
c) “they can put necessary pressure to stop [Issayas]” Yes,
but why should they, when ‘Eritrea’ itself is not ‘willing’ to save itself? It is indeed “a National shame”. “Cry My Beloved Country” so wrote somebody when facing a TRAGEDY!
Why don’t they display on the wall of the building; instead of lying on the flour then allowed to be footed; In our tradition it is not wise at all. Ab adina teregitsnia b hiwetna ms motna dima knrgets. Hangolkum asrhuwom Tsibah nghown ab Godenatat b mekaynn b sebn b kebtin krgets ab tsirgya display kitgebruwo eikum malet u. Please baelna zeyekbernaya nebsina kalie zekbrena yelen.
AH! ERITREANS ALWAYS FORGET THE GREAT ENEMY AND ARGUE VEHMENTLY AGAINST EACH OTHER. I THINK IT IS EASIER FOR ERITREANS TO FIGHT AGAINST ONE ANOTHER RATHER THAN AGAINST THE ENEMY. LOOK AT US POOR PEOPLE. ALWAYS TRYING TO DEGRADE WHAT ONE COMPATRIOT SAID OR DID INSTEAD OF FOCUSING AGAINST THE EVIL DICTATOR!”!
“…EASIER FOR ERITREANS TO FIGHT AGAINST ONE ANOTHER>>>” Stefanos Temolso
We cannot help it! It is in our nature! How else can one explain the glaring failure of “Eritreans” to LEARN from their 100-year cruel history and mend their ways by themselves for the benefit of themselves?

They did it to remind us to stand up because we are so block-headed and stone-dead.
