For Immediate Release
The Source of the Tragedy is in Asmara
The people of Eritrea at home and diaspora are faced with one more massive human tragedy. The sinking of a boat near Lampedusa Island, Italy, loaded with 500 African immigrants, with the majority of them being Eritrean political refugees. This is an extension of a bigger national tragedy imposed on Eritrean people.
While we must morn and extend the deepest condolence to the families of the martyrs, we have to go beyond the immediate tragedy and address real source of the recurring national tragedy. Whether it is a repeated shipwreck with the death of hundreds of Eritreans in the Mediterranean or the protracted inhuman torturing of Eritreans in Sinai, the root cause of all this evil being perpetrated on our youth is the tyrannical one man regime in Asmara.
In this hour of our national tragedy, we must stand strong and express our deepest sorrow, condolence, prayer, solidarity and sympathy with the families of the victims of the Lampedusa. We appeal to the world and especially to the leadership of the Italian government, that the victim’s remaining be returned to their families in Eritrea, so that they can be buried in their homeland and the families will have a closure.
Beyond the grieving period, when the issue moves from the front pages of international media to the archive of tragic incidents, Eritreans at home and in the diaspora have to turn their sadness and anger to a united action against the sources of this crisis. Eritreans have the unavoidable duty of putting aside all irrelevant and tangential differences and work hand in hand to bring a strategic remedy and resolution, by addressing the source of our national tragedy and crisis. As long as the regime in Asmara has control on Eritrea we will have more of these kinds of horrific tragedies.
We appeal to all Eritreans to reaffirm our sense of national duty and grasp the gravity of our national tragedy. We should stand strong as one people and bring an end to the tyrannical system imposed on our people and our country. A regime that cannot declare National Mourning Day, when over 300 of its citizen perish in a tragedy of this proportion, is nothing but the true enemy of the Eritrean people. A “president’ who was willing to talk 5 to 6 hours of nonsense on TV- ERI a month ago, but fails even to extend a one minute public condolence to the families of the dead and the nation does not deserve to stay in power for a single day. The source of our tragedy is not in Rome, London, Washington DC, Cairo or Tripoli: It is in Asmara.

Hi Semhar
Thank you so much!
I did listen to the interview of Yemane I/Gergish a party member of EPLF. He has some shoking tell to tell about EPLF’s leaders and its current form of PFDJ. It is the sadest history of our people. People knew all along this dictator never been a normal man. Yet, no body tried to stop him. They Just brought a luntic killer to lead our people.

I agree.
The source of this tragedy is the dictator and his generals. They are to blame rightfully. Certainly not the USA. The dictator’s attempt to blame America for this horrific death of Eritreans is to spit on Eritreans’ faces. What is the relationship between this dictator and American Gov.? Any history? He has this constant defiant behavior when he talks about America. He acts like a naughty little boy. He doesn’t take any responsibility. Who raised this Coward? I agree with this article’s message that we shouldn’t let this tragedy rest. We should keep the death of our people an everyday issue, until the source of their death is eliminated. I ask Assenna to keep this issue on the front page until the dictator and his generals are brought to justice.
It is not enough to be angry, sad, or in denial. No country in the world had ever lost this many people at one time in this way. We lost over 300 Eritrean people a couple years ago and now this. No people in this world would ignore such loss. This dictator is telling us that he doesn’t care about the Eritrean people. 22 years ago, we accepted him as one of Eritrean’s son. The dictator clearly doesn’t feel the same way about us. The dictator couldn’t even bring himself to acknowledge the untimely death of Eritreans. He is not one of us. We don’t need any more shocking evidence that he doesn’t care about the Eritrean people. This is the time to say ENOUGH! All Eritreans in diaspora need to do their duty of advocating for our people. This tragedy is not an ordinary one. PEOPLE SHOULDN’T DIE LIKE THIS.
THE ATROCITY AGAINST OUR PEOPLE HAS BEEN IGNORED BY ERITREAN PEOPLE. WE ALL HAVE KNOWN THE DICTATOR’S CRIME AGAINST OUR PEOPLE. FIRST, IT WAS LIKE A WHISPERING MESSAGE; THEN IT BECAME TAP ON THE SHOULDER; NOW, IT IS A BRICK/STONE SMASHED ON OUR HEAD. WE CAN’T IGNORE THIS. ERITREAN ARE KNOW TO TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN. Let us get back to our base and eliminate the source of this all misery. I will do my part.
RIP my brothers and sisters.

This killer must go immediatly from our country. Isayas is the root cause of our problems. we must do everything we can to overthrow him. He can not humulate us like this no more.Eritreans never been humulated like this before even by our past colonizers.this is the lowest point of human dignity. we can only blame ourselves for the suffering of our people especially eritreans in diaspora.your time is up mr nasty Isayas, we’re coming to take power of you and humulate you just like you did to our brothers and sister for the last 20 years.

isaias is followed by men who have no “CAJONES” to do anything! As long as their families are taken care of, they do not care about the people. Everyone, tell them:”you do not have balls”. isaias is within their reach, but, won’t do a thing to liberate their fellow Eritreans, may they rut in jail, someday soon!
