By Matthew Russell Lee, Exclusive
UNITED NATIONS, October 27 — As the push for additional sanctions against Eritrea gathers strength in the UN Security Council, Eritrean president Isaias Afwerki has asked to come and personally speak to the Council, Inner City Press was told Thursday by a Council Permanent Representative and the Deputy Permanent Representative of a Permanent Five member.
Both said there might be problems, in that other heads of state of neighboring countries, including Ethiopia and Djibouti, might then also want to address the Council. This happened earlier this year, at the foreign minister level, in a meeting in the UN’s North Lawn building exclusively reported by Inner City Press. (Click here for Inner City Press interview with Afwerki’s adviser Yemane.)
Thursday Inner City Press observed diplomats from Ethiopia and Djibouti going into the Security Council, followed shortly thereafter by US Ambassador Susan Rice. When Inner City Press asked, it was told “bilaterals,” not a Council meeting. More like “multi-laterals” or “Horn-wide,” said one wag.
Afwerki & Ban Ki-moon, new sanctions and impacts not shown African Union sources tells Inner City Press that “the neighbors” want harsher sanctions on Eritrea than the rest of the African Union can live with. Susan Rice and the US, they say, seems to be siding with “the neighbors.”
One AU source bemoaned, “The Ethiopians and Eritreans, their leaders, they are related… This whole thing, it is a great pain to us.” Another noted, “It is better to talk than fight.”

We can tolerate Shabait.com’s (why is it .com anyway?) bad grammer or Tiglish (Tigrinya-English) version English.
What’s worse is there is no change whatsoever on the content of the news or reports. They use the same template – all that is changed is the date or the name of the place. That is it! “concluded in patriotic zeal”, “reafirmed to reinforce national rebuff”,”foreigners impressed with prevailing peace”, “residents praise government effors”, “development gaining momentum”,,… all government-praising, self-serving generic statements.
Why are the shortfalls not mentioned and why is everythig reported as if everything is heavenly perfect?

Here is a fun for you. There use to be three priests leaving in a remote monastery. The rule in the monastery was that only one person speaks ones a year. So, after the priests attended an Easter feast, one of them said “I think the food was great” Then a year later the second one replies “The meat dish wasn’t that good” And finally, the third one replied a year after “could you two stop arguing, for lords sake!”

New African Magazine, November 2011 is featuring an interview with President Isaias Afwerki. It is a must read.
“Once dubbed the “hope of Africa” by a Western newspaper,Eritreahas since been lambasted as a rogue state led by an authoritarian regime, paranoid about its larger neighbour,Ethiopia, with whom it fought a ruinous border war. A key ally of theUSonce upon a time, relationships soured in the early 2000s, as they did with the AU, the UN, other nations, and international organisations. Human rights groups often rankEritreaas one of the worst performers. But, though it has gone unreported,Eritreais a country that may meet most of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. It has achieved considerable success in health and education, based on principles of self-reliance and social justice. As pictures of the recent famine in the Horn of Africa are broadcast across the world,Eritreais missing from the narrative because in a short space of time it has made strides in developing a strong agricultural sector and a resilient economy. And it has done all this without donor aid or outside help.

What a bull crap!!! Entay aynet halewlew ybahal ezi? The guy is putting people in jail as if there is no tomorrow for a remotely dissenting views and terrorizing the Eritrean people with a security apparatus until the productive segment is hemorrhaged of the land that was once dubbed the beacon of Africa is telling us now with an utter hubris, brazen bravado and temerity that, Eritrea is on the right track? Is this guy a luny or what? Or is it his good for nothing followers are not happy enough of his bend-over screw ups?

Kozami,
He is no genius…he is already preping to negotiate with Meles….Recall it is Indian Ocean who gave us news of Woyane’s thrid offensive in preparation….now they are telling us your DIA is secretly in talks with Meles….Be prepared for crush landing of your blind following to the extent he is a genius. Yes he is conniving genius to the level Haile Selassie majored in…..It is known fact he had the book of Haile Selassie + Stalin/Mao combined+ Maciavelli… You can ask all those that know him during the strugle….all these genius at the cost of our country Eritrea….Oh you indirectly are telling us all those he wiped out are not…Eritrea lost so much of it’s brain and heroes to his genisu conniving and backstabber stunts.
Zekhtam Eritrawi October 29, 2011
Kozami,
They say, only stupid people could recognize geniuses in a crowd. Dig? Isaias has perfected the art of dictatorship, tyranny and deceit where people like you are confusing it with a genius. The annals of history is replete with people of an extraordinary mental prowess and agility where Stalin to mention but a few comes to mind. The said attribution of nature are however, used for the wrong reasons where charm and evil coated intelligence is a lethal combination where Isaias is an epitome to that effect.

Who cares about a mad man talk. Even the 26 Km road built by Quator, he was being supplied free oil from his dead before he was besiged by rebels. That is why Asmara is in darkness, he can not afford buying Keresone for power generation.Eritrea is growing so fast in TV ErI-PFDJ school of deception and misinformation-out perform everything. Had Eritrea developing as it was said people would not have flocked in mass but the president was asked and answered they are not refugee but tourists.if asks about democracy he will say Eritrea has the best democracy. No body listen to him any more.
But if you think that is true just pack your stuff go back to Eritrea but in any way you can not talk about tge wellbeing of tge people and the nation while sitting from your comfort zone.

See what this fool is trying to do!! Can anyone tell him that he losing his mind? He told his followers in NY last month not to worry about sanction and he even told them he did not even bother to mention in a signal meeting about the sanction; why is he trying to come all the way wasting Eritrean resource from Asmara when he believe that there is no significance about the sanction? I guess he trying to find a means to check his bank account abroad.

PT-1: reply to Haqqi Nezareb:
Haqqi Nezareb,
You have listed several points to show about the PFDJ’s mismanagement of Eritrea affairs. I don’t dispute the regime arrests people without due process of law, but so does the sadistic woyane regime that you seem to show no remorse for defending it. I don’t dispute there is economic problems in Eritrea. So does the whole region of Horn Africa. I don’t dispute the young are leaving Eritrea. So does thousands of youths from Ethiopia. However, what I will never accept is for you and others to take this malaise as an excuse to gang up with the barbaric woyane regime against Eritrea. There is no precedence to threat of the barbaric woyane regime. The woyane threat is real, and it can not be at par with any problem that we face internally. If you are really interested in law and order, now is the time for you to stand up and tell the sadistic woyane regime to allow the demarcation of the border without any preconditions.
Tsahaye October 29, 2011
PT-2: reply to Haqqi Nezareb:
After displacing Eritreans who lived along the border, the barbaric woyane has been resettling the evacuated areas with its own people. And this is one of the main reasons why the sadistic woyane is opting for the baloney idea of renegotiation. It is trying to gain what it has lost at the international court of arbitration based on the new settlement. We have heard the woyane boss, Meles, saying he is not willing to divide houses and farms. Nice try barbarians. While keeping an eye on the woyane regime, we have also a duty to remind the PFDJ regime to honor the sacrifices made by our heroes. To use the border issue as an excuse in order to delay the implement of the drafted constitution and respecting the dignity of Eritreans cannot be acceptable either.
Haqqi Nezareb October 29, 2011
Tsehaye
Here are the things that are happening in your backyard. Can you understand these conditions with open mind instead of clouding yourself with hatred of Woyanie. No War-No Peace (no demarcation) has the following effect
1. Eritrea has changed into a big prison
2. Eritrean does not have constitution
3. Eritrea has become one of the failed countries in the world
4. It has a dictator leader set out to destroy the country with vengeance
5. It’s young population is leaving the country in droves, depleting the future man labor force
6. The economy of the country is collapsing, and the list goes on.
You see Tsehaye you have the evil side Woyanie planted by PFDJ, believe me they have also a softer side, which do not want know and hear. Their soft side is evident to many of us in the last 10 years. You have to open your eyes to see the soft side.
Lastly, here is a question for you: When do think our border will be demarcated? Need time-line here.
g yosef October 29, 2011
Is border more important to you than all your young brothers & sisters leaving the country to find peace? I tell u, me personaly I DO NOT WANT THE LAND OF ERITREA WITH OUT THE PEOPLE of eritrea .
Haqqi Nezareb October 29, 2011
Tsehaye,
Your are still mad with Woyanie. I understand your pain. All the points you are raising are the same as what Issais and lackeys have been saying for the last ten years. Clear your mind and think about what the ruthless Issais is doing to Eritrea: he is destroying it slowly and surely.
The center of your argument is demarcation. Unless the Woyanie removes the precondition regarding the demarcation, I don’t see our border demarcated soon. What is your option if Melles refuses to remove the precondition? Who is going to put pressure on him? US, EU or UN or another war ?
This demarcation first then everything after is really a crab. It helps the ruthless dictator to stay in his power and get more time to bring total destruction to Eritrea. This is my common sense observation.
g yosef October 29, 2011
TO tsahaye
we are talking about our peple unjust rule by our government,we are not concern about the wayane or any one else we the eritreans are living under the worst dictator ,but I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAY we can not solve our problem by demanding our right. As far as the border isue it will not solve as long we are not united as we are now. There is no reason for us to be against each other,we should all be toghether for a just and peacefule eritrea .There a say “ahwat ms zhabru tselaeom yebariru” so let us forget being some with esayas some against esayas we need agovernment that rule BY THE RULE OF LAW .
Haqqi Nezareb October 29, 2011
Teshaye,
In your comment you said, “I don’t dispute the young are leaving Eritrea. So does thousands of youths from Ethiopia”.
Please give the numbers on both Eritrea and Ethiopia. Numbers don’t lie unless they fabricated.
You also admitted by saying “If you are really interested in law and order, now is the time for you to stand up and tell the sadistic woyane regime to allow the demarcation of the border without any preconditions”.
I wish the border was demarcated a long time ago. But Melles puts the precondition and tell me how to twist his arm so that he drops his precondition. May be you guys try: UN or EU or US or China etc. and let us the results. Good luck with it.

a. Salih Ghadi Johar/Ali Salim writes “Language and Religion In the Eritrean Politics’ and I developed a sub-title for each …”
This is the man whose both parents are originally from Temben-Tigray though he grew up in Keren. However, like many voluntary-Arab-Abeeds, he is ashamed of his Tigrinia language. Without shame he wrote: “I am a Moslem and my language is Arabic.”
One hears such vulgarity only in Eritrea. One does not see such low level inferiority complex among the Somalis, Afars, Zanzibaris, Ogadienians, Iranians, Turks, Khurdish … even the Talibans. Only in Eritrea! … b
