An Eritrean female pilot is seeking political asylum in Saudi Arabia after she was sent to bring back the presidential VIP plane, which remained in Saudi Arabia after the defection of two Eritrean pilots last year. According demo.archive.assenna.com an opposition website from the UK, the Eritrean government is trying to convince the Saudi authorities to reject her asylum request in an effort to deport her back to Eritrea, where her life would be in imminent danger.
The defection of Rahwa Gebrekrstos, a 34 years old pilot, is another blow to the Eritrean government after the widely publicized last year’s absconding of two experienced pilots of the Eritrean Air force to Saudi Arabia. Taking the presidential plane Yonas Weldeab and Mekonen Debesay flew to Saudi Arabia last year, where the Saudi Authorities agreed to return the plane back to Eritrea, and the Eritrean government sent the female pilot to retrieve the plane, where she too ended up seeking political asylum.
She is currently in custody in Gezan police station, where the Saudi authorities are negotiating with the Eritrean ambassador to Saudi Arabia whether they should return her back to Eritrea, if they do so it is feared she could be tortured and possibly executed as a high profile defection in Eritrea is considered to be a crime punishable by death.
We urge the human rights organizations and UNHCR to pressure the Saudi government to give her protection.

Instead of creating controversies at every turn in this long struggle for democracy and justice let us be gentle to one another filled with reason.Please, when writing comments avoid making broad generalization. Writing unfounded and degrading words about someone is character assassination. Only, when we try to avoid such behaviors can a dialog have the chance to grow for a better understanding to take root. Name calling is out of question and the least useful weapon to use if we are trying to promote and accommodate differing view points. It is natural to have various view points but eventually come to a middle ground which lets compromise to grow and bringing minds to come together. Democracy’s trade mark among many other qualities is tolerance, giving space and a listening ear to ideas and thoughts which are being floated by the other. Democracy, as a culture takes a very long time and process to develop. But it is worth a try to pursue.
Hate blinds us to see clearly what the facts are on the ground. Above all, writing filthy words is counter productive unless those are the motives of writing such statements to start with. I must say clearly having a command of the language is essential before expressing thoughts. Let us make it a goal to learn the skills of the language where we live. It gives us credibility by the locals as well.
Passing value judgments is the wrong place to begin with. Because it has already has made us made up our mind to discredit the subject in point. That is a no-starter in helping bring about understanding among people.
There are many efforts made by many which can’t be measured with dollar signs. Each contributes to our cause according to his ability in various areas of focus. Our struggle is measured by a single life and individual. No person is better than the other. Social, professional and status in office is not what matters. Instead, it is the sacrifice each and every individual is ready to make where he stands.
Let us keep the good fight and remain true to our cause for the love of our homeland. In the end, truth triumphs!

These coward pilots are running away to seek asylum when they were able to take out the whole pfdj leaders at the same time by using the jets as missiles, when they are having meetings and end the suffering of 5 million people once and forever.How can you call such coward pilots as heroes? Don’t ask me Why I didn’t do it myself, cos I haven’t seen wedi berad or any other leader while I was in Eritrea except on eri tv serving lies. Good luck to her any way.
