Nine members of the Eritrean National Football team, including the head coach Mr Omer Ahmed and team captain Haile Goitom abandon the dictatorial regime in Eritrea seeking political asylum in Kenya.
Two of them confirmed to demo.archive.assenna.com on the phone about their decision not to go back home to Eritrea. Samson was not able to continue his conversation, while another player who didn’t consent his name to be made public said “the endless national service, extreme repression and lack of freedom” was the main reason for his decision.
The Eritrean National Football team has been to Kenya to participate in the regional annual Cecafa competition.
Although the regime tried its best to minimize defection by calling many Eritrean semi and non professional players from abroad into the team, it couldn’t escape the embarrassment it faced for several times.
Two of the payers have been in hiding before the completion of the tournament, while the remaining 7 have just followed them.
12 members of the Eritrean national team have defected last year in Uganda, after participating in similar regional tournament. Almost all Red Sea football club players have also done the same prior to that.

Good luck brothers!!!
Dictator Isaias Afwerki, Yemane Monkey, Hagos Kisha and your DEMHIT cousins…enjoy the streets of Asmara before you die in the hands of Eritrean heroes. Time is coming and it is not going to be far.
Dekebat Eritreans are suffering in jails or serving you as slaves. Dictator Isaias (Wedi Medhin Berad), who grew up enda Suwa, you humiliate Eritrea and its people!!! Eritrea is a living hell and a shame to African country. You must be happy because you don’t belong to Eritrea. Shame on you killer!

What are you talking about? So are you suggesting herosto come out fron the jails of shaabia? Shaabia is of our sons and daughters, even if it is doing the wrong thing for the whole nation. Labling some one as not eritrean when he does digraceful actions is not only cowardly but also naive. Whether you lije it or not it wsas them the once who are in power, alobg with those who arw in jail that lead the revolution to bring eritrea. Now that the leadership failed in many scores and is leading the nation in the wrong direction and hence we want them removed from power and bring them to justice. But this does not mran they are not from our families – they are eritreans commiting crimes. If you are arguing they act as such because they are from adwa or gojam, then there is something serious on how your mind is wired. As with such tactics wont bring any better for eritrea nor for anyone at an individual level. Eritrea is for eritreans for sure but it is stupid to judge if someon – is eritrean or not by looking at his acquired skills – as shaabia is eritrean but poorly equiped the basics of nation building and human right.

would you mind name one martyr whom you think is a blood relative to Isaias, monkey or Kisha? when some one is tempted to declare a war , he will think twice if he really cares about the cost which is going to be paid in the midst of the prospective war. how ever, i could not sketch in my mind that these people care about the life of individual eritreans. their sisters are not widowed and they do not have cousins and nieces whom they love in Eritrea. do you think some one from Eritrea could feel the bitter sore in Mali or Chile if he is assigned as a military commander in any war field? for Isaias and his cousins ,,,,,,,Eritrea and Chile are the same, so as the Eritrean mothers cry is nothing to him. even to the worst , i am sure Isaias while he was in the Enda Suwa of his grand mother , he was being insulted as Tembienay….so deep in his mind he has a kind of retaliation…..

Origin, religion ethnicity, ancestral DNA, platelet count, cleaner and pure Eritrean/Pure Ethiopian bone/bone marrow/blood, his/her dialect, ancestral survival skills, someone’s parent’s/ great-grand parent’s choice of social/political affiliation, clan belonging and association, should never never be an issue to keep or get rid of a bad person/good person, oppressive ruler or fair and humble leader or leaders. Many may not have been born in Diaspora, but many have been naturalized
to become citizens of Canada/America/Sweden/Norway…etc. Their children are born and raised in their parent’s newly adopted country/home, and they are the first generation, with 100% rights as any other citizen of the country they live. Many constitutions such as, “The Norwegian constitution (Celebrated May, 17th),The Swedish Fundamental Rights and Freedoms (Articles1-20)or the US Bill of rights, stating that all citizens shall be guaranteed with freedom of religion, speech, and the press, the rights of peaceful assembly and petition. More guarantees to private property, fair treatment of those accused of crimes, such as unreasonable search and seizure, freedom from self-incrimination, a speedy and impartial jury trial, and representation by counsel. Among the legal protections it affords, the Bill of Rights prohibits Congress from making any law respecting establishment of religion and prohibits the federal government from depriving any person of life, liberty or property without due process of law. In federal criminal cases it requires indictment by a grand jury for any capital offense, or infamous crime, guarantees a speedy public trial with an impartial jury in the district in which the crime occurred, and prohibits double jeopardy”. I am compelled to bring up the above constitutional facts, because too many Ethiopians and Eritreans seem to dwell on a STONE-AGE mind set, permanently stuck to their head with a stubborn thought that “He/she is not Eritrean/ Ethiopian enough to be a leader, or the reasons he/she/they are committing such gross crimes of humanity at their respective countries is because, they are not original Eritreans/Ethiopians. So many individuals/group of people are wasting astronomical time/ energy/resources, counting platelets/tracing origins of his/her ethnicity and clan, arrogantly and harshly insulting their Parents’/great-grand parents’ meager skills of survival pre/during/post WW I&II. They make a link between current crimes/missteps/actions and inactions committed by current generation to those of the past. It seems that we have the epitome of Hitler/Idi Amin/Former Yugoslavia/ Rwanda, and YES, the Ethio-Eritrea Wars and the ethnic witch-hunt that followed. My concern is that the majority of these two countries have been brain washed/hijacked/bullied to believe in such deadly thoughts. Based on this fact on the ground, it is my fear that history may repeat itself, if the misguided majority rally to enforce such insane ideas on the masses, provided that they get a psychopath leader/extremist political party and vote him to win with a landslide, it will be Déjàvu. As history witnessed it over and over again, the majority can go wrong, as it did in Germany, Japan, Italy, Algeria, Egypt…etc. So fellow Eritreans and Ethiopians, stop this madness, get rid of this poisonous fixation, think objectively and open up your mind to deeper understanding. Thanks

Hi Yerhiwo, do you have any idea what Demhit means? You see a lot people including you think of demhit as shefatu people, but that is way far from the truth. Demhit has a strong and long roots in Eritrea, even way before Eritrea was created by the Italian. If you know your history before the Italian enslaved us that part of the world was ruled by Tegaru or current name known as Demhit. In fact, the tegaru who ruled Eritrea before the Italian were our President family members. So, as you could see Demhit is deeper than what you think, even you its possible that you could be Demhit if you are Tigrinya. For example, if you are Hamassien most likely you are from Tembien like our president, or if you are Akologzay most likely you are from Agama, etc.
Suleiman Salim December 10, 2013
If you are Eden you are Adgi.
Genet December 11, 2013
I don’t who the hell you think you are, If you think you can explain DEMHIT the Tigrayan mercenaries for the dictator, you are dead wrong. All We, Real Eritreans need to know is DEMHIT are terrorizing our people and the dictator allowed it. That is going to be the end of him.
Meretse Asmelash December 9, 2013
Now HGDF has probably two options:
1. Genet’s option : play online
2. Call Cecafa’s General Secretary, Nicholas Musonye and ask him Eritrea to host next year’s event at Sawa Stadium.
C . generator and water bottles : of course,bring yours….
Meretse Asmelash December 9, 2013
Meskerem is back to business.
Defection to him and HGDF is bad news, so to cool down the heat he has to find a way.
Remember his hunting style? Alligator hunting style-the prey has to come to him. And, for meskerem to post such breaking news “monkey” has to call.
Suleiman Salim December 10, 2013
Meretse is an Agame name from Tigray.
Aman December 10, 2013
A person who call Agame is Agame

Where are the PFDJ and Mad dog supporters ? what explanation do they have now ? The regime is crumbling step by step .
You can’t hide the degree of oppression in Eritrea . I recall when the ‘Mad dog’ was bragging about himself and the success he accomplished over the years . Mr President it was too early to say that , and what do you call it all this failure ? I know you stupid answer . Where is the fact ?
Drunker loser !!! Leave our home early before it is too late .

Issayas responded on issue about complaints of why people are fleeing the country by saying
arrogantly ” oh no , they left for vacation they will be back ” . Then when the same people
fall victims in Sinai and Mediterranean Sea , they tried to call them African refuges . And
on the other hand they start to invite outsiders (DEMHIT) to join them as their replacement .
Even Gen. Sebhat LEKHBAT try to defend their presence on Eritrean affairs .
I wonder to understand the direction of the country future while Its precious man power
who are its asset keep vanishing here and there . In fact not HGDF but Eritrea is a big loser
in here because they already exploit the wealth of the country to fatten their personal
financial account . They betray the people and to betray the country would be easy for them .
Suleiman Salim December 10, 2013
Ahmed Saleh,
The government is not responsible for the decision taken by some Eritreans to leave the country illegally.

it is very nice idea. Wedi Berad has only one option. they cannt play online, if there is no electricity no enternet connection.

It takes more than 20 years to destroy Somalia if we see how their last dictator era as the spring Board for the destruction. Many countries survive dictators what made somalians destruction unique is the exodes. 10 years ago if any one says Eritrea is following Somalias footsteps then the curssing was Beyond explanation. But now as we see Eritrea only the reasnoable and the well to do who are leaving the country and who is then remaining?
And to make thing wors while the die hard eplf juntas driving Eritrea to hell in Asmara the other evil by the name of elf is warming up its muscels for taking over and finish the work started by eplf. The worst thing about elf is that it is dividing Peoples in religion and that is my friend is a free ticket for alqaida for the red see and to Paint the land With the same color like the God given color of the sea.

Hurray! Managing to escape from the monster’s unforgiving mouth in of itself is bravery and patriotic. Managing to run for your life and freedom and make it to a safer country on a plane is simply outfoxing the Prince of death and the master of deception. “The one-party state, which has been led by Afewerki since gaining independence in 1993, has among the world’s worst records on human rights and press freedom. The country is Africa’s foremost jailer of journalists and is also known by right groups as a “giant prison”, with the tiny nation home to up to 10,000 political prisoners”. Who wouldn’t? The headline should be modified to read “Just like their previous many courageous/ brave and decisive stars and artists, these too have managed to make it to safety and NO longer will they have to live their entire life under a constant fear. As many predicted/stated it in the past repeatedly, .”Hitorical facts also affirm and confirm that the rest of the players and their coach may follow”.
In dictatorial/barbaric regimes such as this, there is NO official BELL that RINGS to run for your life and freedom. Unless he/she/they are blood soaked members of the most inner circle of the regime, one has to pay attention to his/her instinct and flee to safety/freedom, when you see even a glimpse of opportunity. Best luck and may many follow your foot steps to safety and freedom! Thanks
