* Ethiopia announced previous attack on Thursday

* Eritrea says will not be “entrapped” by incursion (Adds background)

ADDIS ABABA, March 17 (Reuters) – Ethiopian troops carried out more attacks on Ethiopian rebels inside Eritrea on Saturday, a day after Eritrea called for U.N. action against its neighbour for a previous incursion.

This week’s attacks were the first on Eritrean soil that Addis Ababa has admitted to since the end of a 1998-2000 war that killed 70,000 people. Eritrea says there have been others before.

“We’ve carried out further attacks on targets inside Eritrea. This time it’s in the north section around Badme,” a senior Ethiopian government official told Reuters on Saturday.

“We were once again successful. This strike was part of our plan to take proportional measures that included the attacks in Eritrea’s southeast.”

The official did not say who the troops had targeted, but said Ethiopia’s government would make a more detailed announcement later in the day.

Addis Ababa announced on Thursday its troops had raided three military bases in Eritrea which it said were used by the rebels. It also accused the Eritrean government weeks ago of planning to kidnap Western tourists.

Eritrea said on Friday it would not be “entrapped” by the military incursion, signalling its determination to avert another conflict with its bitter foe. It called on the U.N. Security Council to “take appropriate measures to rectify acts of aggression against Eritrea’s sovereign territories”.

A vicious row over the position of Eritrea and Ethiopia’s shared border was not resolved at the end of the war.

The Hague-based Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission ruled in 2002 that the border village of Badme belonged to Eritrea. But the village remains in Ethiopia, Washington’s main ally in the volatile Horn of Africa. (Reporting by Aaron Maasho; Writing by James Macharia; Editing by Alessandra Rizzo)

if you want to see eritrean warsay surrendering to woyane come with them as you have done in the war of 98/99/00 and you will see who will be surrendering. this time though there will not be place to hide in ethiopia except to run up-to kenya or tanzania… be careful to run into somalia by mistake, and i suggest you carry a road map of the highway from ethiopia to kenya other wise you will risk being caught by the heroic people of somalia.
what is different this time is woyane to official claim this border incursion unlike before when he did same in the environs of senafe…and other border areas. remember all the previous incursions were claimed by the so called eritrean oppositions.

    • jonas-1923@hotmail.com March 18, 2012

Do you really believe in that or is it a wishful thinking? who is going to fight for more tyranny and dictatorship, Eritreans have had it with Ass-aya-Ass unless you live abroad ,now everyone is conscious that fighting for one man’s seat is different than fighting for Eritrea.

      • sara March 19, 2012

what wish fulnthinking, they did last time and will do it again.this happened when you and your likes left etra in droves the dergue thought, it is a cake walk and declared 8+ worar’s, the result is as we know history.i and many eritreans do not want to go to war,and my only wish is, the ethiopian people to restrain the woyane/ethiopia do not make the mother of all wrong moves.

        • jonas-1923@hotmail.com March 19, 2012

Hahahah what happned last time? He lost Badme which he still does today, thousands dead even though the objective was never met, he was begged to to negotiate before the 1998-2000 war, he refused, if life was fare Isayas should be standing for treason for using thousands of youths as canon feeders,he has a lot to answer when he meets his maker for each blood spilled.

    • Simba March 20, 2012

      Sara,
Lets be more realistic. We know the casualty both countries has encountered back in 98-2000 war. I have lost my friends and my good neighbors. But please don’t estimate us and think that we will run to Tanzania or Kenya or Somalia if you are trying to …… instead we will push your retarded leader back to where he belongs! I remember in 2000 we, Ethiopian Army, pulled back when we were only 25km or some km away from Asmera. We are running no where and we will be happy to welcome you and embrace you all in any ways you want. Peace or War.

  • Kiflo March 18, 2012

Is there any International LAW, International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law or any equivalent REGIONAL law which make the incursion of the so called rebel forces to enter Ethiopian territory and kidnap innocent tourists, and civil servants.
SARA!!! Do you think your boast is the boast of the broad masses of Eriteria?
Are YOU one of them or are you who got advantage because of the totalitarian dictatorship of Isaias and his lieutenants.
The UN Security Council is advised to be cautious on this issue whether Communist China and Russia like it or not!!!! Their mouth was zipped when they were requested to take serious measures against this regime earlier. Too many foreign citizens suffered under this regime including the people on the “so called disputed border”. Whether you like it or not HA-DI-AA AA-LA!!!!!!!!!! THE UN SECRETARY GENERAL IS ADVISED TO KEEP HIS MOUTH CLOSED ON THIS ISSUE!!! HE AIRED A LOT OF UNWARRANTED STATEMENTS ABOUT THE TOTALITARIAN REGIME SINCE 2008. LET HIS KNOW HIS ROLE AND POTENTIAL. WE DO NOT SUPPORT TERRORISM, FASCISM, PIRACY, AND KIDNAPPING OF TOURISTS FROM A FOREIGN TERRITORY BE IT IN THE NAME OF REBELS OR NOT. ERITERIA MUST NOT BE THE HEAVEN OF ALL THESE BAD ELEMENTS IN THE HORN. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Where is the Lion of Nakfa? All these years he treated Eritrea and its people as his “personal property”. We counted nothing! Let our boys save their lives and we shall see him how he can defend himself. No more bloodshed for our youth. Let them surrender and be safe somewhere. He has been killing and putting them in harsh prison conditions. Who is willing to fight for him now? He will try to use friendly words and empty promises. Let him fulfill first his previous promises. As for me, it is time for the Dictator to go. We need a break. We suffered enough!!

    • jonas-1923@hotmail.com March 18, 2012

Right on…but there are fanatic supporters of this thug who put him first before Eritrea and they are willing to sacrifice whatever cost to keep him in power.

      • semere March 18, 2012

They are ready to sacrifice others not themselves. It is easy to say “defend” our country while sitting in a cozy chair, in Europe or North America. The game is over!!

  • shakureahmed@yahoo.com March 18, 2012

“would not be “entrapped” by the military incursion”

That is an excuse of a coward.

Ethiopia’s government denied a Reuters report that it made further attacks inside Eritrea.

“That’s not correct,” Getachew Reda, the Foreign Ministry’s public diplomacy and communications director, said by phone from Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, today. “There’s been no further attacks” after a raid two days ago inside Eritrea’s territory, he said.

Ethiopian troops today carried out more attacks on rebels in the north of Eritrea around Badme, Reuters said, citing an unidentified Ethiopian government official.

Three military posts where the Eritrean government trained rebels hostile to Ethiopia were targeted on March 15, State Minister of Communications Shimeles Kemal said.

“The information is false,” he said by phone today about the Reuters report. “It’s an absolute lie.”

  • truly, Truly i say to you March 18, 2012

If Yonas and Semere allows me to intervene in your views, specially yonas you sayed,
” There are fanatic supporters of this thug who put him first before Eritrea and they are willing to sacrifice whatever cost to keep him in power”

in deed what you said is right. But the question is since Isayas worshipers get courage to sacrifice themselves for wrong idea and for one evil man in power that much, why we in oppositions are get losting courage to sacrifice ourselves for justice, democracy and right purpose? Is there any revolution which gets victory without sacrifice? No one! No where! The problem with us in opposition is, because that much doesn´t oblige us when we hearing someone dieing without low and justice , and even because we do nothing when sitzens right is massively abusing daily, we have not to be wondered if Isayas continues his abusation . Isayas is strong because we are weak and have fear for sacrifice only. Not another reason.

    • jonas-1923@hotmail.com March 18, 2012

You are right Truly , but it is not lack of courage in an opposition, any oppressed people aspire to be free but Eritrea is a police state where Isayas and his thugs run an organized crime. You need permit to travel from one region to another, it is not even easy to have a cell phone, opposing from within is hard but something big is happening, when this power mad dictator cant even defend his border,he is losing face and the personality cult he built ,sooner or later fear will disacipate, which will crack the rigime from within.

    • jonas-1923@hotmail.com March 18, 2012

Right Truly, but it is not lack of courage, Eritrea is a police state where travel and communication is hard. Ass-aya-ass and his thugs rule by a book of organised crime., they don’t just own the land ,they own the people they enslaved. But there is hope, the fact that this once invincible and cheauvinist dictator capitulates when his border is breached will make him lose face and the personality cult he built around him, sooner or later fear will disacipate which will crack the rigime from within.

      • Ahmed saleh March 18, 2012

I agree in some points but I have different version to our
political crisis point of view. If we go back before Badme
war, there was some opposition within shaebia elements
and other nationalists. At that time the strong supporters
of DIA were people in diaspora, morally and financially.
That is why any attempt to silence opponents was welcomed
because people were fooled by their concealed agenda.
But I believe these civic opposition forces might boost
the moral of those good -will (NEXUHAT) Eritreans to
to initiate revolution because they see the light of hope
from their people particularly from outside. Do not forget
HGDF used such people as his back bone weapon for too
long to distract any outside influence.

    • semere March 18, 2012

Truly Truly… when it comes to your statement about the opposition I fully agree with you. What we have to avoid the bloodshed of our youth in the trenches. They are victimized both by their government and now by an invading army. That is why I suggest let them not fight but surrender and let the invading army eliminate the enemy at Asmara, or as someone said crush the head of the snake. So far all the sacrifices that we paid were only to prolong the regime of the Dictator, with the exception of the 30 years independence war. The later sacrifices did not bring any betterment to the life of our people, only slavery, oppression and humiliation. Let the fake “Lion of Nakfa” admit defeat. We know who are the real LIONS!!

  • kulu March 18, 2012

When it seems very sure the downfall of this regime, those bloodsuckers will shift their allegiance and they will present their excuses to the people of Eritrea. They will incriminate one another. They will try to whiten their deeds to the people of Eritrea. This government is at its weakest point. The pillar, the support and moral of the people of Eritrea is removed. No more blind support for criminal. Even those who seem to bark day in day out in support of the regime are not doing it from their heart. Many of them are opportunists. The regime is near death.

    • jonas-1923@hotmail.com March 18, 2012

Haha ,It reminds me of what I read about West Germany after the war, except the high ranking Nazis ,the rest melted into the population, thier masters (the americans) half heartedly sent forms asking the population if they were Nazis ,all replied no. Sheabia supporters will say the same.

  • sara March 19, 2012

kifflu, i am sorry to offend you, there are thousands of “lions of nakfa”
that you might make a mistake he is only one, you could ask your compatriots in addis or those scavenging in the whole of ethiopia. they know better what you could find if you make your move to the land of the free and country of heroes.
other than that, the eritrean people want to live in peace with their ethipian neighbors and this time they have the responsibilities to oppose another fatal mistake by the ethiopian/woyane invaders.

    • jonas-1923@hotmail.com March 19, 2012

Sara did you mean the Hyenas of Nafka? because lions don’t behave like that since they have pride, they suck the blood of what they hunted but not one their own.

      • sara March 20, 2012

sorry , you heard about it but didn’t see it to comment any thing of NAKFA, because it seems you have some one related to you went to nakfa and didn’t make it back to wollo.

      deluded Sara,

I did follow your comments. I laughed and laughed. Let me ask you a question. Do you know why your dictator keeps loosing battles since 1998? Let me tell you the answer. It is because the heroic Ethiopian are not along side him.

He is a deluded dictator. Issayas is just like his master Gedafi. He never learn from his mistakes. Let’s see if your ‘Nakfa lions’ will save you.

Do not blame these kind of people, blame the one who spoil their
mind out of context from the reality of our true history of nationalism.
When she said” ask your compatriots and those scavenging in the
whole of Ethiopia” , you figure out who you are talking to. Myself
I try hard not to mind them because it is waste of time. Those with
NEHNA- NESU sentiment are in a state of dillusion, leave them alone
till circumstances wake them upt. They do not know about lions of
Nakfa, one of the lions is BERHE XAEDA who died inside the town
when they liberate it.( Dark skinned complexion but with big hurt and
that is why nicknamed XAEDA). Even ELF tegadelti who were in army
forces in Hamasien have good memory of him and the forces he used
to lead. And I forget Martyred Weldenkiel too, those are my lions in
SHAEBIA side which I know in person as kid then. And there are old lions dumped as refugees in Sudan too. ALEM RESAH YEBLU ABOTAT.

      • sara March 20, 2012

gedafi was a friend of your masters, did you forget the aden/addis/trippole axis … of the 70th and 80th, or should i remind you the his budy..budy.. relationship with… Blair..berlescone… sarkozy..etc, oh…i forgot… he was king of kings in africa, the dean of the arab leaders too.

thanks for the conciliatory tone, and i understand all of us will not go out and say this negative things about each other except here hiding behind the computer, simply because we have a culture that’s respects the dignity of the other, like all civilized people .. what is happening here is a new phenomenon, brought up because of the technology…. in fact one elder i know told me the same happened when the telephone was invented, people started to use the phone to air or stir any thing which is not normal to say openly in public even black mail others as no one will know who made that call …no way to trace calls, it was too early for that to be available.the same here , i am 100% sure we will not say what we are saying in the open becouse it is EIB/newree. the bad thing is this has opened people to think negatively… simply because we read so many negativity about us and our country.
