If this news is real and true – what else is new in Eritrea. Too many incompetent people up in Eritrean leadership. Simply incompetent. Most of them wait for “one man to sneeze so they also sneeze so to speak.” All they know to this point is stealing and copying. Sad part is the fact they have introduced the same values to the Eritrean society and it will take some “one of a kind leader” to change values and culture in Eritrea.

I guess this is negative comment but I could not help it and apologies. I recently visited Eritrea and I met for the most part key people and all of them are just clueless and helpless. The scary part is – they are all too old and waiting to the day to day exit from daily life. Literally, most of the people in key places have this fear of “nothing” which is self made fear of outsiders. I would say they should fear of their own internal making. Tragedy of generation and curse of a nation.

With the new change refugees being discouraged from heading to Ethiopia I encourage the nation of Eritrea to revolt for change now and see what they have in their hand.

    Peace and Change to Eritrea.

    1. Never seen such lame population. Unheard of in our custom, the order in Asmara snatches young girls and boys away from their warm home and expose them to extreme indoctrination. No University classes but to be drill soldiers. No father has so far stood for his daughter or son. Sad.
    2. Takes your money and at his discretion give you pennies to buy necessities. Practiced in no other country other than Eritrea.
    3. Exchange of one u.s dollar in Eritrea 15 Nacfa, in Ethiopia 40 Br. The most distorted exchange. On what grounds can the Nacfa be more than the Br. For the sake of argument let’s assume Nacfa=Br so when an Eritrea expatriate sends a u,s dollar to his mom in Eritrea the 25 Nacfa is swindled by the system, and heaven knows where it ends up.
4 Simple google will shaw you that the guy in Asmara is one of the richest presidents in Africa. This must be the minimum, if the gold and phosphates are added his wealth is even more.
    5. The gullible diaspora is now ready to give him more money unconditionally. I know substantial money was collected to build a hospital in Decamere, the organizers were forced to hand in the money so the government’ can build it. They built cheap quadrilateral rooms not worthy of a hospital.
6 Now under the pretext of Covid-19 the system wants money. It should never be in the hands of the system. Independent body is fine.
    7. There should be a precondition that all those in dungeons, all over the country should be released. They are not enemies of the country. We should know who is the enemy.

“A leopard never sheds it’s stripes”
After having closed all the Catholic clinics/hospitals across the country, Eritrea has become one of the most vulnerable countries with the weakest healthcare system in Africa.
Now with the outbreak of the Covid-19, even countries with modern/sophisticated healthcare system have found it exceedingly difficult to coup up with the spread of the virus.
Taking that into consideration, smaller nation such as Eritrea was supposed to mobilize a functional national task force right from onset to:
    Support preparedness and response.
Stop the Corona emergency from spiraling out of control.
Release/allocate Covid-19 emergency fund from HGDEF coffers and other overseas held accounts to purchase the required medical supplies and help people affected by the pandemic directly/indirectly.
    – Ensure the availability of basic necessities such as water, electricity, soap and food.
What are the thugs doing in face of this high magnitude pandemic?
    – Silence and hiding from the public view..
    – Asking for ‘cash donations only’ instead of the required medical supplies from their supporters(cash cows)
    – Turning away a donation by Jack Ma, a Chinese billionare. A shipment consisting of face masks, test kits, protective suits and other medical supplies worth millions of dollars.
The real heroes of the battle against Covid-19 in Eritrea are the front line workers, nurses, doctors and other support healthcare staff who are working gruelling hours with meagre resources by placing their lives in danger. These sisters and brothers have my highest respect and admiration.
May God keep our people safe.

    Selam all,
When I read this article, I expected Assenna would be swarmed with furious posts from all Angeles. To my dismay it was quiet. It reminded of a discussion I had in Asmara with my distant relative, in early 2000. I asked him why we are not reacting to such humiliating and distressing situations in our country. My relative, who is a medical doctor and has lived all his life in Eritrea (even during the derge regime) told me ” Izi Hizbi B’skta yu z’ketleka” roughly translated the Eritrean people backlash comes through silence. I did not buy it, but I didn’t also refute it completely for there may be some truth in it. Now after the impostor and his cabals have done and are still doing, if there are any who are cowardly hiding behind such a mantra, they should face the stark truth that they are spineless walking dead.

Why do you think the regime is rejecting help donated by Chinese billionaire?

In my humble opinion the answer is simple: because it’s not a cash amount.
The regime want international donors to put money in Higdef overseas accounts.
They are against any form of assistance that can go directly to people.
You may find this very difficult to believe but it’s true.
They don’t mind seeing people dying on the streets instead of allowing humanitarian organizations assisting those in need.
If you don’t call this an enemy, what is it?
