First and for most as Eritreans we need to give credit when it is due. Ethiopian government for offering the opportunity to this young man should be applauded with appreciation by any decent Eritreans. Second the student has been awarded for exceptional achievement during the graduation sermony in the AAU. If the PM want to encourage the Ethiopians to excel and awarded only exclusively to Ethiopian who achieve the highest mark is completely acceptable. This kind of leadership is what is missed in Eritrea.Raising this issue here is unreasonable expectation from Ethiopia , we forgot that he is being refugee not exchanged student and want the same treatment as host. To finish my comment on this issue I would like to criticize Ammanuel for gotting it very wrong this time round to bring this as a big deal. There so many Eritreans in the pipeline studying in Ethiopians university and potential ones and so we should be grateful rather than unpleasant the host nation. There many other Eritrean websites who are good for string troubles with our neighbors and assenna should leave this to them.wedehanka

Tes,
Wow!!! That was the most mature and responsible opinion I ever read on Eritrean webpages.
Selamawi' July 30, 2014
I think the point is that: it is hard to be recognized as the best if you are not in your home land. Amanuel’s reasoning seems to me that we need to unite all our resources and bring about change in our Eritrea so we can excel and celebrate our achievements and talents like any other citizen in their own country.

We gat to opposit stories at the same time. One of our brother from Mekele university won the first prise of the university ans he awarded for that and forward his thankful message to the people and government of Ethiopia. To the contrary berother amanuael succeded the score but lose the prise. The main thing is his success and capability. He shows his talent that can not diminish due to the the award. The second thing is, may be he never thought in his life to be 6 kilo universityz student and high scorer. Due to the good will and long lasting policy of the Ethiopian government he get the chance and at least he laid a foundation for his future career. So we have to be thank full for the chance of education that granted to our refugee families. This is the chance that total denied to us by the criminal dictator in Eritrea.

So amanuel do not feel any bad thing. You are the one you did it. In case if it is the policy of the country accept it as it is. If individuals did it, it is good to ask why, just politely to know the reason.
Keep it up
Be strong.

MightyEmbasoyra July 30, 2014
I am kind of curious on these two items btw:
1) How did they name that university 4 Kilo? Kilo of what? kg, kW, kH (could be kilo Hasot – well it is a skill)?
2) Why isn’t any one with 4.0 GPA? Is that because there are some arrogant and or ignorant prof. in the university? I used to hear some of the prof over there do not give A at all? If that’s true, that is pure stupidity? Don’t they use curve grading scale?
rezen July 30, 2014
MightyEmbasoyra,
1st. This is for your enjoyment
2nd. “Arat Kilo” is actually a misnomer for the University.
3rd. It should actually be called “Sidist Kilo”
4th. I visualize you saying “and what the hell is Sidist Kilo!!!”
5th. You see Mighty, in the Arat Kilo Circular Piazza there are FOUR roads coming to it; and in the Sidist Kilo logic dictates that six roads be coming to it and so indeed there are six of them.
6th. Knowing you (even from imagination) you will still be fuming [smile] to know what the connection is between weight and Inlet/outlet!!! Well Mighty, that is why explorers from every corner of the world found the Abyssinian Country mysterious, charming, proud and irresistible…………
———————
p.s. I can imagine healthy inputs from ‘cool’ commentators. Hey guys, let’s satisfy Mighty’s curiosity!
MightyEmbasoyra July 31, 2014
Thanks for your humor and very matured response, rezen!
Does kilo mean street in any of the many Ethiopian languages? Those proud people can’t confuse kilo with street. Can they?
Baba July 30, 2014
It is dead wrong but who are we to question the Ethiopian policy, most of all we should be grateful for the academic opportunity given by the Ethiopian people and government.
There is one thing we can do as a people though, get back to our senses and respect each other and claim our nation back so we don’t have to go through this kind of discrimination where ever we land to live as a second class citizens.
Let’s be Kind to each other and do the right thing.
Thx,
Bereket Hidru July 30, 2014
Baba …..are alright …..u have to stand for the right thing bro we are Eritreans and we r proud of our identity ….he deserve that coz he suffered four years for that shit ….how could you say that at least say the truth ….tell whats right .
Zeray July 30, 2014
Let’s reserve our criticism of Ethiopia. First, I want to thank the Ethiopian government for allowing Eritreans into their university. I say this because I know how hard it is for Ethiopian nationals themselves to get into universities. Eritreans are getting the opportunity. Secondly, Amanual is a winner however you look it at. He is known and recognized by the University as top performer. He should be proud of himself. Thirdly, what gives us the right for expect praise from other countries when our own country does not respect its own citizens. Let’s focus on our real enemies.

loms gele knsem’e ina. atum fokosti nhaqi “haqi” mbalsi intai iyu zefrhakum.
Ethiopian generosity and denying the most brilliant graduate the prize he deserves are totally different. This is unheard of in the history of any higher learning institutions. Just because he is an Eritrean so that he should not deserve the first prize that he earned is the most shameful story I have ever heard. It shows politics and education are so much intertwined in Ethiopia. This is the most despicable story that will live in infamy.
Yes, this brilliant Eritrean student is very thankful to the university and Ethiopians for giving him the opportunity to study and complete his university education. But to tell him that he is not up to good to have the medal that he earned reminds me the experience of Black Americans. Many of your (the commentators) are for sure immigrants living in the USA or somewhere else. Many of you may also have gone to various universities and earned your university degrees. Now think for a moment that you were Amanuel Tesfaslasie and you had to face the same fate in the American universities because you are an immigrant living in the USA.
Let us condemn this despicable act by the Addis Ababa University. It is really disgusting and it will continue to shame the university for years to come. This story is not going anywhere. Universities honor their brilliant students and not deny them because they are different.
