“Woldeab Woldemariam supported Eritrean independence out of convenience rather than conviction. We probably should give credit to this Eritrean Tigray origin for his vision while dekbat were saying Ethiopia wey mot.”

    Adulis

Aboy WelWel was a Tigrean-Eritrean originally from Adi-Klite near Axum (I think it’s the same area from which also comes Sibhat Efrem).
He was a great man of his time. He was excommunicated by Orthodox church for siding with ‘Muslims’ who advocated for independence. He survived several attempts on his life, but stood firm in his political convictions. Finally, he choose exile than submission and humiliation. May his soul rest in peace.
Tedla Bairu and a few others like him, were opportunists who were not after the interest of their country but mostly were motivated by personal ambition.
The King knew them very well, so as soon as they handed him over the country, he moved them to some other positions they did not like. Some of them like Keshi Dimitrious (apparently a ‘Gonderie’ born in Eritrea) ended up being a member of royal consultants chamber (yezewd amakari). Those who knew him said he lived most of his final years in Addis unhappy and felt marginalized.
In a country like Eritrea or even Ethiopia for that matter, it’s easy to manipulate a politically naive public. That is what the Unionists did, and behind them Ethiopia which was looking after it’s geopolitical interests.
Let’s admit it, we are still not fully aware of the dangers that are hovering over our heads half a century later. I don’t think the Unionists had calculated the interest of the Highlanders, rather they were emotionally dragged by the church in believing Ethiopia is a Christian country and that is enough. A decade later, they realized that that was neither enough nor necessary if you can’t call yourself Eritrean (although Eritreans were next to Amhara in getting some benefits ). Now, the same thing seem to be happening with what people used to think of Iseyas and his divisive political strategy. After two decades of his rule people realized that Iseyas was neither a national hero who brought freedom, nor all those who hated him all along, were doing so because he was a Highlander or a Christian. It takes time and experience for people to fully understand complicated political machinations. Eritreans need to know that their national interest are one. They are safe only if their country is safe, and they will perish if they fail to keep their country united and strong. That is how every country on this planet survives. We don’t have different problems, but have not yet learned to tackle them properly.

    Assena Staff

Why do you delete my comment to Kalighe?

I told him that i did not share his opinion about what he called him abona Wel Wel to this ruthless man .Yes he could his father but definitely not to me My father is Zaray Deres.
You Assena staff repeatedly informed us about the sufferings of our brothers and sisters under the barbaric Rashaida and their brothers Bedewin. So what is the problem then to answer to Kalighe by saying .
    You Zombies told us :
“The Bedewin is = our allies.
The Rashaids is = our brothers.
The Amharas and the Tigrians are = our enemies ”
    What was here wrong ?
Or Assena is not a free press rather a share company while you had quickly apologized to Ghenet Original.
Any way if you do not need to talk about Rashaida in the name of our unity (ሐድነትና) you have to delete your archives. But unity was never born in myths by covering the truth but in reality and the truth.
Happy stay with Ghedli lovers and Zombies ,when the truth comes you will give up.
