You are right Yemane ,one of the killed was my third uncle..I do not recall his name ..They were killed in geshnashim ,near river mai amber ,knife was beingh stuck against their head several times ,their culpability was they were elected to be qebele’s authority by derghi..the victims had no choice ,but like you said it ,it was meant to slap the monkey in order to scare the tiger.

For some of the killings, it was said warnings were given. In some cases, the acts came across as legitimate. I’m not sure if the assassinations of Araya Belai, Awol enda tahanit, and the beautiful lady who was selling flowers near Cinema Asmara fall under this category.
Sadly, there is no single liberation movement in the history of postcolonial Africa, Latin America or Asia that didn’t purge its own freedom fighters or civilian population. For the sake of history and hopefully our reconciliation, the truth must be told.

was that he was a merchant with TIGRETTO truck from-to highland-lowland and in between
he use to supply Ghedli . He was an older man in charge of Tegadelti food supply in
Hamassien and couple times they use to send him to his village to look after his
family because he left behind his wife with only young girls . The sad part , they
throw a bomb through the window after he refused to come out .
Situation was tense after ELF fighters in hamassien demanded for revenge but Abdella
Hassen calmed it down by saying ” even SEMRET will cost us sacrifices ” .
Anyway he was typical father figure ordinary type tegadalay .

They were chairmen of each Village elected during the “Derg” ( kebebel like’meneberat). They were elected by the residnet of the village. They were not “Surat Derg”. The EPLF member’s name who ordered to be killed was “Alem” who was “Jemahir”. The decision was mistake and the EPLF was saying it was done by the Mistake decision of Alem. Alem who orderd the chairmen to be killed was sent to the prison at that time and I think he made suicide while he was in the prison ( killed him self”). The think that made worst to the tragedy was that One of the son of the killed chairmen was from high official of the EPLF regime. But it was the system of EPLF that killed thsese poor farmers not Eseyas or Drue. Killing was simple as that time.
