I would like to thank Mr Yemana telling the story of Haile and others

He lived for Eritrea and Eritreas.I’m very proud of him because he was not
a push over or a doo Matt.he paid his life on what he believes.

Haile was a nice person, everybody’s friend. I used to see him from time to time when he was in charge of Cooperatives Department in Meda. When he was head of ERCCS (Eritrean Red Cross and Crescent Society) I accompanied him to meet people from Syrian Red Crescent society in Damascus, that was in 1994.
After that he went to Khartoum where he was killed. The EPLF had a long list of people to be killed in Sudan, he was one of them. May his soul rest in peace.
There is nothing as shameful and as humiliating as Ghedli Eritrea was and has become, you judge it by its fruits:
prisons everywhere in Eritrea, no rule of law, no worthy economic activity, no free press, no independent courts, no opportunity to the young and no hope …
Eritrea is worse off under Ghedli than any time in its short history. No young Eritrean has any confidence in Eritrea or “Eritreanism”. Young Eritreans are so scared and tormented, a three band Arab Rashaida would drive one hundred of them, all the way to the Mediterranean Sea, like a bunch of camels. (A pretty good symbol of Eritrea) 🙁
Geja wrote, “you are partially right because there are no innocent among the elite leadership in the gangs or Wenbedies of Jebha and Shaebia.
The elite leaders were all participants and accomplices in killing innocent Eritreans, jailing, torturing, burning kunama villages, erasing our identity, burning our languages, marching innocent Eritrean peasants to futile battles, raping kebesa women and leading battles against each other to strengthen their own private seats and fiefdoms.
The elites in Jebha-Shaebia leadership were all criminals and most of them are still walking freely collecting welfare and retirement money in Sweden, Norway, Holland, Britain, Australia, Canada and USA.”
Kisanet,
if you read every country’s oppressors excuse – birds of the same feather fly together. No human being ambitious of power, name & fame shows mercy to another human being if there is NO fear of consequence that punish him severly. Derg’s PM Fikresellasie Wogderess in his book “us & the revolution”, extensively wrote the crimes EPRP committed in the struggle of power between EPRP, Derg, Meison and others. In the end Mengistu’s group survived it all due to Mengistu’s decisiveaction, secretive netowrking skills who had a secretive military wing that was under him during the fierce times of 1974-1977.
The crimes Derg committed or list of those killed by Derg has NO place in his book. However, all those ethiopians that EPRP “killed” are listed in his book. In the same token, those younsters who were part of EPRP killed by Derg are listed at: http://www.yatewlid.com/. Now both deads are Human beings and most of all they are both victims of their killers and also victims of their respective leadership circles. They used them in the name of revolution, a revolution only in the name but its ultimate goal was, as always, to serve the few ultimately, inevitably – ala EPLF that is now PFDJ! Haile Garza was just a citizen who ended up standing tall in the path of EPLF march. so in EPLF leadership & their executors the likes of Petros tesfagiorgis, haile was the fierce opponent and the collateral damage of their revolution!
As Addis Ababans who grew up in the 70’s we know of quite many people listed on both sides ogf EPRP’s & Derg’s list. It is painful as some were close to us. But what is strange is both sides deny the acknowledgement of the dead. That is how cruel HUMANS who look after their interest. They just inject “people’s revolution” until it dawns for their throne. Although Derg leadership (many) survived, the EPRP leaders (most) were not lucky. Red-terror ate them all. so we don’t expect Jeffrey Dahmar to come out and admit that he killed a human being, dismembered the body & put it in the fridge and ate it.
Eritrea & eritreans will yet uncover many gruesome stories in fact you won’t until you become trustful with one another and brave like the Argentinian mothers of “the Plaza de Mayo” who formed an association of Argentine mothers whose children were “disappeared” during the Dirty War of the military dictatorship, between 1976 and 1983.
There is too much baggage and attachment with region & religion in Eritreans. Eritreans knows NO sense of Humanity until a crime reaches their own door. Now, which Eritreans will feel sorry for Petros Solomon 17 yrs old girl? literally all humans, as She is a victim of her own father who was a key player of Gedli with blood drenched in his hands. And a mother that was typical of an Eritrean who looked the other way as she was the benefactor of gedli with a husband being a HOT SHOT!
The kid deserves empathy. But, she cannot ask Eritreans (tell that to Haile Garza mother & sisters) to feel sorry for her dad or call him a “HERO!”.
If a robber burnt down my house while all my relatives are in there and then awarded me with millions, what good is it for me with NO relatives & loved ones ? Eritrea was already demolished by the time G15 toothlessly barked. pure examples are:
a) UNMEE soldiers used Naqfa notes to wipe their stinky ass. These notes were the sacrificial symbols of so many braves.
b) UNMEE soldiers paid money to “ppor” parents (one incident we read at Visafric & BBC in Massawa back then) and engaged in sex with underage children as 13 & 14. which one of young girls in Asmara you didn’t think not being lured and surely used by UNMEE soldiers from europe, Asia and Africa. you forgot all these? etc etc …
who brought all these mess? and did ordinary Eritreans (diaspora in particular) cared let alone those leaders who have become un-humans for so long. Every Eritrean diaspora should ask him/herself what their position was? That is the answer.
I doubt people like Petros Solomn would ever feel what it means human being & feel the prison life as prison life at all. in fact it might be like heaven to simply eat & asleep to forget the past behind the wall that. besides who knows if Isaias take them for outing every night. who knows what may or may not happening in the Arawit world. This is a gruesome, absolue uniquely savage front so creative in hacthing evil that harm citizens & humans.
Until Eritreans think of HUMANITY first & foremost, horror will continue under PFDJ. Too many Haile Garza’s & Abraham Afewrkis will be uncounted for. sadly!

I don’t know if there’s any reasonable justification for such killings as there are some people who think that the revolution wouldn’t have succeeded without such operations. I personally refute to agree to this but it’s all a matter of conscience and view and it remains as a controversial issue for all times. Whatever Haile Garza did to deserve death, I don’t think he was in a position to affected the revolution negatively. What disturbs most at this time is the fact that we have so many Tegadeltis with Eritrean blood on their hands.
Fact-is-fact, I can’t agree more to what you have said. I think we have to consider all given situations and chances those people had to improve the system before we start to judge them.
The questions that arise here are if they could do without those nasty operations of killing people or not.
I believe that Petros Solomon wouldn’t have passed those orders if his assignment were in other medical or economical fields but he was simply unlucky to have been given the dirty job of a chief of security whose job was obviously to safeguard the system from internal and external threats. Sibhat, Yemane, Girma Asmerom or anyone of the ministers wouldn’t have done any different if they were assigned to that post.
If one gets appointed to a chief of Halewa Sewra, his job will be to get prisoners punished. This doesn’t of course justify Solomon Woldemariam’s excessive harshness because as it is recounted by many, his brutality must have crossed all limits of human imaginations. People like him had better not joined the front.
In Victor Hugo’s book ‘Les Miserables’, the inspector Javert who was dedicated to his obligations as an inspector, spent his whole life chasing a harmless escapee for almost a lifetime. Javert was so engrossed in getting the law of the state respected that he couldn’t spare a minute to see how much he was harming the life of an innocent human being. He had simply handed over all his senses and moral standads to the law of the state. He finally committed suicide when he eventually came to his senses to realized what a cruel person the state has made out of him.
The bottom line is that we don’t exactly know whether it is the system that we have to blame or the individuals who serve it with full devotion.

Zelalemawi Zikri Nitswatna!!
Long live Eritrea!!
Dear Araya,
Thank you for reminding Yemane the name Commodore Tasew Desta and your positive input in this historical discussion.
I was not member of Ethiopian Navy.
Similar to others who lived in Somalia in the 80s, I was fortunate to know some of the stories, because I was following all political events during that time. This has led to many interesting things in my life: learning Somalia language and culture, repatriation Ethiopian war prisoners working as coordinator with international Red Cross and UNHCR and registered as EPLF member etc.
Also, for no reason I was held by the Somalian national security in the harshest refugee concentration camp called Shelmobed for 13 months. But despite all this, I still keep on coming back to my memories of Somalia. The respected Yemane is one of them, he helped many Eritreans and Ethiopian refuges to be free from Somalia prisons.
There are many more memories like this .Yet these memories have been coloured by time and our over-active imagination. Memories have become stories and, after many years, we are not always 100% sure to remember the first or the second name unless we help each other.
We are where we are today because of Isaias the butcher of Eritrea.
Thank you Yemane for sharing with the people of Eritrea the dark side of our history and now we have the true story to tell to our children.
Solomon, I can see that you have been through the difficult times in Somalia of those times. You are lucky to have survived this and to have known Yemane personally and I am sure you can have many episods to associate with his stories.
Yemane is a very credible and amazing guy with so rich a memory to remember all these names and events. I am convinced that the name ‘Desta’ which is a common surname to both Iskindir and Tassew must have confused him a bit. This is of course quite irrelevant as compared to the precise details he is recounting but we still have to remind him of even the smallest mistakes in order that the faultfinders do not get a chance to magnify and use it to discredit his efforts.
Since you have been in Somalia, I’d wish to ask if you knew a guy named ‘Beyene Habte’ who is supposed to have been killed in Somalia. Can you give us more information on him ?
Just to answer to your question about Beyene Habte:
While I was in Somalia, I heard about the sad story but I have never met him.
Yemane confirmed to me that in 1984 the Somalia’s judiciary sentenced to death an imprisoned Beyene Habte convicted of espionage for former East Germany Intelligence- Stasi (GDR). Beyene was married to a German woman and had one daughter.

With all due respect, let us look at this scenarios:
a) Systems, Instuitions are created by very few Individual/s who have the same interest, view & aspirations. These individuals be it in poilitics, economics, Journalism, they are & tend to be decisive, dominant, ruthless and what not. The level of their cruelty & Intensity is boundless.
Forget politics & power for once. Look at Banks, the Western banks, the most civilized Western banks & its rules. Bernard Madoff is a pure example of ruthlessness. He as individual used the Institution to do the damage he did. he didn’t shoot, strangle, hack people(his stakeholders, trustee constituents) to death but his deliberate cheat caused death of some of his stakeholders. And just imagine, he did this in the most civilized country that has NO match when it comes to rules, regulations, policies and what not. But, the evil like Madoff find loopholes because their thirst of power & greed is boundless.
And just imagine if Madoff had dared to do this to the most educated in the most advanced country, then what do you expect Isaias, Petros, Solomon, etc ..
-that came out of a people that are so STOIC, illiterate, trustee..
-From a soceity that believes whose life is destined to be “poor” or “rich” .. just imagine.
My argument is this: It is understandable if Isaias & Co. killed b/c from the onset they knew, learned the art-of-politics is kill or be killed. Not just opponents but perceived opponents, and those who refuse to obey (innocents)
But what baffles me how come all of us urban dwellers or diaspora Africans are so dumb not coming together in the same way our killers are coming togwether to build systems to kill us. How come Eritreans fail in the last 23 years alone knowing all these crimes committed by both ELF & EPLF? The truth of the matter is – it was a dog eats dog world.
All those who cry foul now (such as G15 family, and many more) were simply the privileged at the dawn of independence. However, the system that they built, yet again, betrayed them, in the same way it has of the ordianry tegadelti and the entire Eritrean soceity.
In the end those who brutally control us are always proactive in building systems, institutions to control & whip us. But the question is why NOT us creating, working together to establish institutions to reverse that brutal system and to protect the greater good of soceity? That is the question where NO Eritrean will be willing to answer. Because No Eritrean is willing to respectfully work for a greater cause. Only brute & treachery is what the mind is so deeply wired and familiar with? Is the eritrean soceity like that? you tell me b/c I didn’t grow up in Eritrea and my imagination was the opposite: goodness, honesty, kindness, hardwork, ethis… and you tell me (many like me) if we shouldn’t be disappointed !
so no amount of excuse should exonerate those who serve the brutal system that victimized the majority in particualr the frontline tegadelti and all those who were brutally supressed, were made sexual slaves.. and what NOT!
Ato Yemane being in the position he was should do better to articulately extract every little detail. what he is airing is not enough. Now that he is uncovering it, he might as well uncover it in the most efficient way that can hurt the system & the leadership. he should for instance name who was messing around with tegadaly Ghirmay’s tegadalit wife. If he doesn’t know then he should clearly state it he doesn’t know who but someone in the leadership. Isaias alone wasn’t the evil. He was the boss but he was surrounded by men who enjoyed the same evil things as he does. If they had NOT they could have killed him for the sake of the victims & the soceity at large & the “beautiful soceity governed with rules that they preached”.

Dear Araya,
Thank you for reminding Yemane the name Commodore Tasew Desta and your positive input in this historical discussion.

Solomon September 25, 2014
Araya,
Just to answer to your question about Beyene Habte:
While I was in Somalia, I heard about the sad story but I have never met him.
Yemane confirmed to me that in 1984 the Somalia’s judiciary sentenced to death an imprisoned Beyene Habte convicted of espionage for former East Germany Intelligence- Stasi (GDR). Beyene was married to a German woman and had one daughter.

Kisanet,
Thanks & Very well said in your response enclosed in “Kisanet on September 24, 2014 at 6:36 am said:
The bottom line is that we don’t exactly know whether it is the system that we have to blame or the individuals who serve it with full devotion.”
