Fact is Eritreans chose to be independent. Ethiopia may be good enough for Ethiopians but it was/is certainly not good enough for us Eritreans. At a time when the majority of Ethiopians have come to terms with our independence, a few refuse to accept the fact that Eritrea is no longer an Ethiopian colony. I am sure not a single Eritrean even remotely considers unification with Ethiopia as an option. However, anyone who wants to be called Ethiopian in order to boast about some or other 3 thousand year old fable does not need an entire population and a nation to denounce their identity. They just need to surrender to their love with Ethiopia and replace their Eritrean identity with an Ethiopian one. No one is forcing them to be Eritreans. Or is there?
