    Amanuel Iyassu
Your choice to have an interview to Mr.Huruy was good ,but as usual, your questions were very soft ..Mr. Huruy was one of the main actors of Ghedli ,so you could have asked him several tough questions that your audience wanted to hear.

      Mr Tadesse Kidane
What books do you really want him to refer to, would it be your Akeleguzay books????
Mr Hiruy does not need to refer to any books as he has a vast knowledge and experience
on Eritrean politics and as with our old saying ‘kab mihiros aemiro’.
Give us the pleasure to read your own book and then we would be the judges as to who really
      needs to refer to books.

      • Simon G. October 20, 2016

        Bereket,
People make mistakes, including the smart ones. In this case, Ato Tadesse is correct and Ato Hiruy is wrong.
Are you still playing the the Akeleguzay card? Isn’t this the typical HGDF’s getaway shitara? It is either the Akeleguzay’s or the Moslems or the Weyanes or CIAs non sense fault. This is 2016, every one is aware of this non-sense HGDF playing card.

        • AHMED SALEH !!! October 20, 2016

          Bereket
Accept criticism from Simon G , You jumped for wrong conclusion to oppose Tadesse comment . I think it wasn’t innocent reaction to say
          your Akeleguzay books .

          • Bereket T. October 21, 2016

            Ahmed
Why are you taking sides when no one called you to be a witness or a judge? What criticism do you want me to accept? You must be in a HGDEF kangaroo court or in a children’s playing ground!
Sadly, it seems rationality has been lost not only in HGDEF land but also in wildness of the opposition land.
I never jumped for wrong conclusion as I would repeat it again if it needs to be repeated! I don’t get what you mean by ‘innocent reaction’, do you mean it wasn’t “fair” comment?
There is no need for self-made judges/juries or kangaroo courts at assenna forum.

        • Bereket T. October 21, 2016

First of all sorry for late response but never sorry for my fair comment.
Mr Simon G., you and your likes are not yet ready for democracy nor will you ever get civilized. Because you and your likes see the world through regional glasses you think everyone else does so! People like you no wonder need devil leaders like Esayas Afeworki for life. You should clean yourself from ethnic and regional thinking first before you meddle in any national affairs in Eritrea.
Memhir Simeon and Prof. Simon of Putin’s mafia Russia, please inform us as on what base’s or from which formula you come to the conclusion of that Ato Hiruy is wrong but your Akeleguzetay Ato Tadesse is correct????
How come the great man Mr Hiruy wrong and your invincible Mr Tadesse correct? As a self-made judge or a member of a jury, don’t you think you ought to be impartial judge or jury to all and also give reasons of your verdict? Get real in the real world of 2016. Sorry but your Akeleguzay shiTara will never ever work with me.

          • Simon G. October 21, 2016

            Bereket,
Not worth of replying you b/c I have no interested to degrade myself.
Hint: you are on the wrong forum. You should have stay with your likes at meskerem and tesfanews.

            Bereket
You see the heart wasn’t sincere at each other that is why you
took it personal in negative way .
Now I see why you brought Akeleguzay to criticize Tadesse . If you feel offended , good to know and I have no problem to say SORRY .
But stop your backward regional influenced arguments if you respect Tegadalay Huruy Bayru .

  • Bereket T. October 19, 2016

Many thanks to brother Emma of Assenna for a great interview, and lots more for kibur ayay ato Hiruy Tedla Bairu.
Brother Amanuel, why did you have to wait so many long years to interview our senior politicians?
As life is too short for all of us but more so for our aged fathers and mothers please use up the chances in time.
Otherwise, I am privileged to watch and learn the vast knowledge and experience of the great man ayay Hiruy.
Thanks again brother Emma and the Assenna staffs, Lets hope your next one would be Mr Tesfay Temenwo.

  • k.tewolde October 20, 2016

Regardless of their role in Eritrean political history,it is refreshing to see a candid interview of Mr. Hiruy, him and so many of his generation are a living archives of our history for reference, hopefully we will see frequent segments like this in the future with his counterparts. Thanks Assenna.

    • Bereket T. October 21, 2016

      Brother K.Tewolde
Thanks for being always a level-headed fair commentator even when you are sometimes unbelievably a fanatic extreme ELF advocator. I agree with your precise comment and I could not put it any better from your above true statement or a complete comment

  • AHMED SALEH !!! October 20, 2016

In the interview with Assenna he confirmed that the book is solely based on his personal experience with Eritrean
and Ethiopian politics . And we don’t expect pleasant book to read about our continuous sociopolitical conflicts
which happened to consist bitter to swallow events . If Mesfin Hagos or others knowledgeable senior tegadelti and politicians write version of their personal experience , it can help the people to understand the dark side of our region past history . Sectarianism keep shifting the burden around to create more problems and to stop this nonsense stupidity requires influential forces that can inspire general public to bring conscious awareness , It is important to focus on ideas and the message that counts more than the person himself . Therefore , hold our breath and read the book then we might give our judgments . No-No-NO kind attitude doesn’t take us nowhere rather to keep us hostage inside old box mentality of 1960s , 70s , 80s and 90s era while Eritreans dream had been hijacked in front our eyes .

  • Wedi Hagher October 20, 2016

“Irredentism (from Italian irredento for “unredeemed”) is any political or popular movement intended to reclaim and reoccupy a “lost” or “unredeemed” area ..’

    Wikipedia

Mr. Hurui said “Mahber Fikri Hagher” was an ‘irredentist’ movement and that is why some of them fought heroically in Adwa (although he did not say on they were on the Ethiopian side).
But this characterization makes sense only if the Eritrean “irredentists” where trying to get back land in the same way the Italians “irredentisti” were trying to get back their Northern regions from Austrians. Is he implying that “Mahber Fikri Hagher” were trying to liberate Ethiopia ?
Because he also said none of these movements were nationalist till the advent of ELM, he leaves many unanswered questions ?

    • k.tewolde October 20, 2016

Hello! Wedi Hagher,it is just a book promotion, and he clearly stated that the book is a collection of excerpts of his personal historical encounters,in other words the book is ato Huruy’s personal dairy and he sharing it with us,so it wont answer all the questions we have, but it will help us peer through the lens of a veteran who lived it into the tumultuous history that got us here.

      • Wedi Hagher October 21, 2016

        Thank you brother k.tewelde

I thought Mr Herui Tedla Bairu’s interview was insightful and inspiring. A shame such dignified people are not running our country. Instead Eritrea is traumatised by Isiais who frankly cannot chain a couple of sentences together even on the rare occasion when he is sober.

Well done Assenna for organising such an interesting interview.

    Eritrea forever, death to dictatorship.

    Mr Simon G.
Amen, and many thanks for your kind wishes.
But, seriously you now seem like the American drones are after you and you running away for covers.
Admit it you have lost badly from our little mini-debate!!!
There is no need at all to suddenly cry like a baby or to throw weak punches out of desperation.
Once again. get real my dear friend as you don’t need or to waste your time defending the indefensibles.

    • AHMED SALEH!!! October 21, 2016

To call K. Tewelde fanatic extreme ELF advocator , to go after Simon G , your respond
for my innocent comment to accept criticism and the new participant with the name Bereket
makes me uncomfortable . I hope you prove me wrong .

  • Bereket T. October 21, 2016

    Ahmed
I can’t blame people for being ignorant, illiterate and uneducated; life is sometimes unfair, but I can’t stand those who write under the influence of stupidity….willful defiance against reason, logic and facts. Your audacity to call my comment as a ‘backward regional influenced arguments’ is just outrageous and goes to show how stupid and idiotic you are but I am not going to stoop to your level and respond in a similar fashion.
You see, when your or others comments were reasonable, I respected them and when they were stupid, I simply called a spade a spade. Where is your freaking problem here please? You are entitled to your opinions like everyone else but you don’t have the right to your own facts or beliefs. Similarly and again, you are entitled to your opinion like everyone else but I am puzzled what message you want to convey.
Needless to say, I don’t subscribe to fantasies and wishful thinking, I also don’t base my position on emotional driven by regional linguistic politics. I don’t like generalization and to speak about the pie in the sky. I like to be grounded in reality and talk about the nuts and bolts of politics. I also have no malice or ill feeling towards any individuals or groups. My comment or response to Mr Tadesse was merely a fair/innocent comment.
I truly believe that one of the main reasons why veteran senior tegadelti are unwilling to rise up or speak up against this brutal dictator is because they were betrayed by the silent majority through petty character assassinations. Don’t assume the role of a judge to certify or don’t entrust yourself with the authority to decide on others comments, if you are not used to free speeches and democracy then go on and reeducate yourself fast.
Finally, I will give you the benefit of the doubt and just reiterate what you’ve said stupidly. You might have major problems of mixing up things or individuals but you can’t get away or shouldn’t be allowed to accuse or attack fair commentators with ridiculous and malicious accusations. Get your facts in order and get real, I don’t need to prove you right or wrong as you are not that significant to me.

    • Bereket T. October 22, 2016

addition : I would repeat what I’ve already said in my free comments about Tadesse K, Simon G, K.Tewolde and yourself without any hesitation or apology. Criticism what CRITICISM!!!!!!!
