STOP EU FUNDING of ERITREA’S REPRESSIVE REGIME – THE ROOT CAUSE OF REFUGEE CRISIS
This is to express our dismay of and strong opposition to the European Union’s current plan to provide a multi-million development package to the repressive Government of Issaias Afewerki of Eritrea. WHEREAS over the last two
This is to express our dismay of and strong opposition to the European Union’s current plan to provide a multi-million development package to the repressive Government of Issaias Afewerki of Eritrea.
- WHEREAS over the last two decades tens of thousands of Eritreans fled the country escaping enslavement in the name of military service
- WHEREAS the Government of Issaias Afewerki has curtailed most freedoms, from movement to expression; from religion to association; from where to live, when to marry and who to worship
- WHEREAS the extra-judicial executions, enforced disappearances and incommunicado detentions aimed at silencing all perceived critics continue unabated
- WHEREAS the 2007 European Union’s122 Million Euros similar aid package had no impact in either reducing or eliminating the brutalization of the Eritrean people at the hands of the repressive regime
- WHEREAS in June of last year, the regime’s brutal treatment of its own people prompted the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) to launch the International Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in Eritrea
- WHEREAS European Union development aid notwithstanding, so long as repression continues in Eritrea, children, youth and women will continue to flee the country and embark on treacherous journeys that claim innumerable lives
We therefore CALL upon the European Union to:
- Stop rewarding the brutal dictatorship with new funds and instead redirect funding to nongovernmental humanitarian organizations to provide food, shelter, counseling and transitional assistance to refugees in desperate need of help
- State unequivocally its position in support of the Eritrean people in their struggle to usher in a constitutional and accountable Government elected by the people
- Demand that the brutalization of the Eritrean people that is at the root of mass migration be halted immediately
- Identify and impose travel restrictions on senior members of the repressive regime who visit European capitals to mobilize financial resources from the diaspora
- Request the repressive Government of Issaias Afewerki to allow the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) access to Eritrea

EU should not fund a dictator who violates the 1948 UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Timnit April 2, 2015
As concerned Eritreans, it is our obligation that we stand firm with our people by saying to the European Union, “We are all for food, medical or any development aid to be handed over directly (through any of your organizations/agents) to the needy masses”. But we are adamantly opposed to any CASH aid to the brutal regime. They (EU) should also be reminded that the absence of the rule of law has exacerbated the suffering of Eritreans. How could they reward a criminal and murderer mafia group is beyond normality!

Stop EU Funding to Eritrean Government is petition that every body should support. Isayas has billions of Dollars who has collected from the Eritrean People. He neither his family nor his supporters will take the advantage of that. This money whether it is collected illegally from the Human trafficking of innocent Eritreans, or illegally collected from Bisha Gold mining, etc, etc, etc or diverted from the EU funds or what, He will never ever benefit from it but rather will leave it all behind like what his friend the Libyan dictator Mohammed Gadafi did very recently. History will repeat itself with the case of Isayas Bojbaj. Please the EU kindly stop supporting this unlawful the so called president without any legal support of the people of Eritrea. His supporters are in one way or the other are in identity crisis like him aligned to destroy the nation. So I support all the petitioners and should elevate this to the maximum height it deserves. Thank you all who are fighting on behalf of the masses and voiceless. You will succeed.

It was good idea, but where, how, when, with whom? It is just non-sense to suggest that things can simply get done while sitting in arm chair. Eritreans are dead alive, we are the cheapest race in human history. So, it is better for you bro to seal your mouth until we all Eritreans have got up and rediscovered ourselves again. It has been 15 years now since our brave brothers and sisters disappeared, murdered by Issias and his gangs, yet no one has shown the will and courage to fight the cold-blooded regime in Eritrea. We could have already got rid off the regime, had we had organized and mobilized our resources effectively at the right time in the right place. However, due to our short sighted stupid divided mentality, we have been unable to achieve that. We have failed our people, even made their suffering and anguish much worse than before. We are obsessed with dancing, clapping, lying, talking, to try to look somebody else, but we are not yet read to pay the real price that our martyrs deserve for.

If the EU want to keep funding the gangster regime in Eritrea to kill its own people, then we must think that there is a serious issue we are missing out. It is not up to the EU to tell us we are disappointed by their action, it is us we should ask ourselves why.
One obvious reason that the EU decides to finance the regime is that the EU does not have a sympathy for us or it not sensitive to the horror that every young Eritrean has to go through due to the bloody gang regime.
Perhaps, the most obvious reason that the EU or other Western counties do not pay much attention to our problems is that they have observed and assessed our movement and response to the regime over the last 15 years. They came up with the conclusion that we are weak, poor, desperate, divided people ever. Therefore, we should not be surprised by the fact that the EU want to award millions of euros to the regime.
Those whose name are listed in the above would never change the fact unless we all Eritreans united and got our voices resonated across the main political stream in Europe and America. Until that time comes, I personally don’t want associate myself with any of the extremely arrogant self-opinionated unpleasant group who call themselves “Opposition parties”.
