To mark the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the Eritrean Liberation Movement (ELM or Harakat), itsmembers should be remembered by the Eritrean people and future generations. On this occasion, the victims of the 1958 general strike should be remembered also by the Eritrean people. The strike was organised by the members of Eritrean Workers’ Association. Sadly, the strike was brutally crushed by the security force on the 10th March 1958.
Following its crushing, the ELM was founded, on 2 November 1958, at Port Sudan, by Mohamed Said Nawd, Mr. Salih Ahmed Eyay and other Eritreans exiled in Sudan. According Iyob (1995:99) Mohamed Said Nawud, the principal leader, had contacts with the Sudanese Communist Party(SCP), which at that time was one of the best organized of such groups in black Africa.

I wonder if they teach that in SAWA,do the kids know how their nation morphed to what it is today?

In Sawa they teach history of Ghedli from papers kept secret by Higdef.
There is no history textbook.
Obviously, it’s all about Iseyas’ narrative of every important event in Eritrean recent history.
The students are left with the impression that the ELF was an Islamic organization created by a shifta and his associates who were ex-Sudanese soldiers.
Students are divided into groups. Then some more sensitive issues are discussed in these groups. Tailored differently for every group.
Some of the so-called Agazian ideological tenets seem to be originating here.
Higdef’s divisive and sectarian politics is everywhere in the country, but in Sawa it has diabolic aims.
It’s trying to leave behind seeds of future conflicts.
