Two Eritrean activists from the North East of England, Bini Araia and Sirak Hagos met with William Hague, the British Foreign Secretary today to discuss the deteriorating situation in the Sinai desert.

Mr Hagos represents a charitable organisation called Investing in People and Culture (IPC) and Mr Araia represents a local campaigning group established to raise concerns about human trafficking and slavery in Sinai. Mr Araia had previously met the Foreign Secretary on the 13th of July 2012 to discuss the same issue in which the Foreign Secretary promised to raise the concern directly with the Egyptian president. The Foreign Secretary kept his promise and raised the matter with the Egyptian president to resolve the problem and also reiterated that he will continue to press the issue. He said he would maintain regular contact with the Egyptian Government on human rights issues to urge that full respect for human rights, including protection for minorities and accountability of the security forces, be enshrined in the new Egyptian Constitution. He also said that he has been in contact with the UNHCR office in Cairo.

The two activities are determined to continue the campaign and will continue to work with the Foreign ministry to see actual fruits on the ground.

well done sirak and Bini, big hug for two of you guys but i reaaly advice you to clean the hegdf supporters which are the cause root of our problems. The main and the root of the problem is the dictatorial regime in eritrea. our brothers has nothing to protect the rashidas, issais is not there to protect and raise the awareness of the people of eritrea and the rest of the world. Those who are running after gerahtu and contribute money to hegdf are in centre of the magnet sooner or later. You guys in the north are very capable to change this.

      Sara,

Don’t try to shift the blame. The Eritrean government is not responsible for the plight of our brothers and sisters in Egypt.

      • MightyEmbasoyra March 8, 2013

Who else is to blame? That is the root cause of all these issues.

  • senay March 8, 2013

well done brothers, you have done a very good job. This what we should do those who are living in the west, meet the right people.

  • Haile London March 8, 2013

Well done both. This is a big step towards stopping the savage trafficking of Eritreans in the Sinai. Keep it up. I am sure it is going to stop soon if the world gives any attention. You are doing government’s job. Unfortunately Eritrea is without a sound government. Thank you very much in deed.

These youngsters may have been babies while the current opposition leaders have been boasting many years of experience in the armed struggle. But look at what they are doing. They are much more resolute and self sacrificing than everyone of those of us who claim to have fought for justice and freedom. I say, you guys are exemplary and keep the righteous thing up. Wish u luck and success.

        Embasoyra,

Do not a give bad name to our awraja and our people. You are not even from the area so do not use the embasoira name. Let me tell you the Entire region wants to chop isias and his supporters into pieces. You must be rashaida’s business partner.

        • Embasorya The Mighty March 9, 2013

Don’t be silly. Did I say anything wrong? Every Eritrean, including you, knows that “ab qum neger Abn n’shteyn zbehal yelon:: ” is true.
