Few days ago, I watched a two part documentary prepared by and aired on EBC [Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation] on the situations of Eritreans as told by Eritreans themselves. It is an informative, educational and heart wrenching piece of work and I recommend everyone to check it out.

It is hardly a secret, but the documentary makes it plain that Eritrea has become an abomination. In fact some describe Isayas’s fiefdom as being without a parallel in contemporary Africa.

In the early 1990s, Eritrea was a nation ushered by the West in to the group of promising countries led by new generation of far sighted leaders. All which explained why hopes were high for the people of Eritrea.

But since then, the leader of the country, Isayas Afeworki, has turned his back on everyone including his people. The euphoria that greeted independence reflected the nation’s escape from a walled-in world. But Isayas has since built anew wall and Eritreans are on the wrong side of it.

What he has done is using carnage and tyranny, established and maintained despotism in the name “self reliance and nationalism”. Thus Eritrea rapidly slid from a promising proto-democracy in to despotism. And that despotism at home became adventurism abroad with catastrophic consequences: an economy that is failing at every level, the breakdown of basic social structures and a demographic decline.

As far as its external image is concerned; Eritrea is, cut off from the world of political and financial mainstream starved for investment and treated as a pariah, hardly a fitting source of pride.

The question on everyone’s mind is how in the heck does this guy [Isayas] get away with it? Or more appropriately how is that he managed to survive this long?

According to the theory political science, the main sources of power are: force, resource and information. In Eritrea all these are the domains of PFDJ [the ruling party]. Of the three Isayas’s most valuable tool of control is information. i.e., the art of Misinformation to be precise

The culture of disinformation of events which belies the culture of deception, agitprop and paranoia are upon which Isayas relies to secure his power.

To put it another way, Isayas Afeworki, the man who perfectly personifies the despotic, twisted psyche of the architect of tyranny, depends on the very absurdity of such conceits to manage his affaires.

Some say isayas’s war on truth didn’t start after independence, but years, if not decades earlier. It is just, now he has perfected it. Isayas’s information- war like those fought by demagogues before him is fought using Machiavellian tactics that erase truth, instill paranoia, exhaust population and eradicate hope.

Isayas understands that a population that is constantly force-fed radical propaganda and dizzying special effects that inform conspiracy narratives becomes a population that succumbs   – exhausted – to that avalanche of lies, mindlessly reiterating the state’s talking points, or one so cowed by the tyranny of that messaging and its reach that believes nothing at all, and becomes paralyzed with fear.

Either way Isayas or his Moonies, the authors of such political fiction, realize the results desired – silencing what few independent thinkers may exist by implied threat, or manufacturing consent in the enervated masses.

As such the challenge faced by the Eritrean people is to expose the villainess nature of the Isayas regime, confront and arrest the scourge it has wrought on them.

Only when Eritreans fight this war on its terms, and work to ensure that the people living under isayas’s heel are afforded unfettered access to truth, encouraged and empowered to act and participate in their polity and protected from harm should they choose to do so, will they begin to win that war.

To that end it is imperative that Eritrean political and civic societies in the Diaspora and friends of Eritrea work to undermine isayas’s grip on the population at home by increasing the avail of true and credible and information inside the country using all available means.

To win this war, Eritreans need to dismantle the stealth propaganda channels (aka 03) the regime uses to control people. Dr. Andebraham, mentioning some of our weakness, said: “we tend to simply repeat what we heard, without asking questions” (paraphrasing). The regime uses such weakness to spread dark propaganda tailored to target different groups and create mistrust.
“Bado Seleste” is active even in diaspora. It’s used to divide people along regional lines in Europe and US and along ethnic and sectarian lines in Middle East and Africa.
To be free, we need to be open minded, question anyone who tries to divide us, expose the enemy tactics, work hard for unity, tolerate secondary difference ..etc
And above all, we need to clearly understand that, the only enemy of Eritrea is Higdef.

This article is interesting . PJDF at the top the Wolf for decades ago and even now, they relay greatly to inseminate new false information or to block any information to people. When they were challenged by some brave people, they begin to attack twisting their nationality or introducing new white lies. As we know the regime spying on every household to weaken the society and terrify them.Priests, Hairdressers, elder people, students and many others are paid to spy on their locations.People are helpless and they take extra caution on every word. This is Hell this is not freedom??????????

First of all, he is not a president, he has never been chosen as president ever since the independence of the country in 1991, he is just the leader one corrupt and criminal clique in Asmara. he was just elected by his own gang club to lead the people who has never been given chance to exercise their basic freedom to vote.

  • Dawit havre June 6, 2015

He will die as a small mafia group leader. He is an old man who failed to please himself and his ignorant supporters plus some opportunist scholars who will not stop trying to benefit from him but will soon be ashamed and isolated from all Eritreans. Wala tsehai aytibrek kab badme ayniwetsin ena – well xehai aribato eya, nibret ertrawyan hanti bhanti kinmelsen ena- hasot koyna terifa, ertra singapore kingebra ena- singing poore koyna eya, mebrahti may meliu riesi ketema halifu geter atlekliku. A lot of achievement in 25 years. What a disapointment for ignorant supporters and an old man a step away from his grave.

Eritrean social political reality lies on misinformation for duped consequences . The day people
Issayas’s line no matter what and no matter how deceptive his agenda was to regard it as truth
caused the country to fail from our expectations .
For some reason , many influential well informed nationals let this HGDF massive cult to pursue
their mind control method on our peopke to perpetrate lies , tricks and fear on creating tyranny
which people acted like self administered ignorant victims .
Our most important issues we try to ignore started from not be aware to recognize if innocent
lives are threatned , the rest won’t be immune to face same danger .
War , unnecessarily confrontation never been honorable or patriotic except to cause a threat for
regional peace and for destruction .
We can only reveal truth if we are able to see its reflection and allow our eyes to see facts
    through the right mirror .

people choose Issayas’s line no matter ………

A mad man is still in charge of a poor country called Eritrea. A paranoid, antisocial, narcissistic, and sadistic man with schizophrenic tendencies, including excessive grandiosity.

How do you deal with a mad man? This old mad man is beyond reform : you can’t reform a mad man; you can only institutionalize him. Unfortunately, this man continues to be head of state but he is mentally unbalanced and we need to recognize and legitimize alternatives to his sadistic rule.

Change in Eritrea will come really soon, and it will stick, when enough Eritreans inside and outside the country believe it’s necessary and timely and execute it. It is OUR responsibility. But the international community has its share of responsibility. We need to reach a long over due decision : the same one that was reached about Saddam Hussein, Moammar Kaddaffi, and Bashar Assad that is to simply bomb the mad man DIA into pieces.

  • Medhin.G June 6, 2015

I don’t think Esayass Afewerki is that of a mad man. He may be a control freak and that he controls everything in Eritrea, in other word, he is simply allowed to be the state by indecisive and nervous Eritrean people.
He decides which singers should go on which tours, which pavement should be patched, what crop should the farmers sow this year, how far they should plough, which private hospital should be closed, which shop keeper should be licensed, which curriculum should be taught; who should be sentenced for years and who for life sentence…. whose wife should be abused so that the husband will be humiliated : the ultimate insult in Eritrean culture.
He is also the one who declares war and peace; at the same time he is the one who decides what color should be painted a certain house. Now, please tell me this is not the sign of a mad man unless like in our tigrigna saying ‘Asha temesilkha dirarom (Hizbom) wedialom’. Unfortunately. he is an absolute ruler.
