Not Only Does He Despise Us, But Also Hates Us
A Regionder to Mr. Semere Habtemariam
Dear Semere,
I came across your superbly written discourse about the Eritrean Termidor at Awate.com under the title, “He Doesn’t Hate you; He despises You.”  What prompted me to pen down a bit of my take is, your portrayal of him [Isaias] as the one who despises but doesn’t hate Eritreans; and as the one who ‘loved Eritrea.‘  Had it not been for this blemish, I tell you, I wouldn’t eavesdrop on your article.  But I beg to disagree.  Not only does he despise us; but also hates us.  Neither does he love Eritrea nor Eritreaness.
If only we could listen to one another, we would have had a consensus as to how to confront the dictator, as his story, from alpha to omega [approaching], ran a gamut of misdeeds.   Sadly, we are devoid of any consensus and consequently unable to fight him.
What has made this possible is our understanding of him: his zombies and foot soldiers portray him as a ‘hero,’ who, with his divine powers, singlehandedly saved us from annihilation by the Ethiopians; therefore, equating him with God.  There was a story once heralded by his devotees that Isaias, the Gladiator, fired the whole magazine of his AK 47 on a wall with the intended purpose of showing his creative powers; and what was the poked marks on the wall reveal?  His name.  Do these people have innate abilities of reason an sanity?  These people believed in this kind of absurd narrative that It is impossible to reason with them.
Some still rationalize his misdeeds as unfortunate episode but doesn’t erase the fact that he was a hero; therefore, an attempt to offset his misdeeds with his pseudo heroism and absolve him of any responsibility.
Whats more, there are those commoners or tegadeltys’ alike, though giants, to use your own adjectives, were nonetheless dwarfed by the dictator, who are eagerly awaiting for the genuine Eritrean history to be told.
Such is the enigma surrounding him that we couldn’t even agree about his legacy when in fact he has been implementing his decades old hidden agenda of destroying Eritrea and its people; if only we could open our eyes and listen to one another.
Mr. Semere,
I am a bit surprised at your description of him and you should have known more than anybody else that the dictator was neither a hero nor he loved Eritrea.  Despite what his herd would like to describe him, he never fired a single shot and according to Mesfin Hagos, he never commanded an army.  He is a coward bully who relied, like a street boy, on violence and settled scores through the barrel of a gun.  He is the destroyer of the Eritrean nation and the hater of Eritreans.  He is in our midst to annihilate us unless we wake up; and wake up soon.  Since his early days, he was bent on destroying the Eritrean national interest when he, for example, had made an unholy alliance with the woyanes in his odyssey to annihilate the ELF in the early 80s. This could hardly been described as a love for Eritrea.
Even now, look at how the well planned work-in-progress of slowly de-populating Eritrea.  According to the UNHCR, Eritrea is hemorrhaging of its youth at alarming rate of 1500 per month.  At this rate, what is going to happen in two or three years time?  Who is the dictator preparing an empty Eritrea for?  This is what an enemy does.  It is so appalling that we don’t even have a plan to reverse this dangerous trend.
What was, for example, the reaction to the Lampedusa victims?  It is incredible but  true that while the whole world united in grief, their own government described them as, ‘African migrants‘ with complete apathy to their suffering.
A true Eritrean, for example would have invested in human resources.  What poor Eritrea is subjected to is the brain drain of the work force and the educated.  This is the deadly enemy we are facing, not the person who ‘loved Eritrea.’  Achievers and true leaders don’t do this to their people; enemies and invaders do.
I could have described more and more of what, every decent Eritrean, know about this dictator.  Despite your portrayal of him, I don’t hesitate for a moment you fail to understand the misery and predicament of our people.
Dear Semere,
More than forty years since the dictator towered above us, we still couldn’t solve the enigma surrounding him: we still debate whether he loved Eritrea or not, we still wrangle about his importance or lack thereof, in the Eritrean Independence struggle. Worse yet, to the consternation of many Eritreans, he is portrayed as the embodiment of Eritrea and its independence; so much so that to some loud mouthed loyalists, Eritrean Independence wouldn’t have materialized without him.  Remember that this person, as the proverbial connotation implies – success has a thousand fathers, while failure is an orphan –  has spent his entire life in aggrandizing himself in every achievement our compatriots had and belittling others for every setbacks they suffered.  Once, we were told, women were hysterically ululating the tunes of, “wedi afom birye nska anbesa asakirka nebriye.”  What better way of creating a herd mentality than this?  Not only does he despise us, but also hate us.  It is time to wake up!

Tesfamichael Kidane

      Ato Belay,
Eritrean independence would be realized 15 yrs earlier if it was not for isayas. He dragged but finally can’t controll it. BTW, he was not interested for the referendum. Why?

The “self reliance”, introduced in 1970, was self answering that Eritrean issue was ugly by nature. However, we have to give him[Esayas]big credit, for helping us not to wonder “how would look like free Eritrea?”

    • Tesfamichael Kidane March 5, 2014

belay nega, for your information, Eritrean Independence happened because of the ultimate sacrifice of our beloved brothers and sisters and not because of the dictator. This [your reasoning] is exactly the robot mentality exposed in the article. Well, you have an absolute right to stick to your herd mentality.

  • Truly Truly i say to you March 1, 2014

Only genuine Eritreans like Tefamichael Kidane and Dawit Meconnen alike could understood the exact evil nature of Isayas. Those lionizing and flattering the Devil because self are evils and they have same agenda to destruct and destroy Eritrea it is. There is no wonder if Satan worshipers blandish and defend their king! Finally they would get the proper punishment for that they bearing bad fruit they deserved.

I think you got it wrong. Again old scars of ELF versus EPLF (and TPLF). World class dictators like Hitler and Mussolini were not less German or Italian when they led their people to destruction and finally Hitler killed and Mussolini hanged. Mengistu was not less Ethiopian when he shot not only Eritreans but members of the Ethiopian student movement in every street and corner of Ethiopia.

Let’s not make ELF the angel of light and EPLF the angel of darkness. Both had their own problems. Fighting one party or another does not make anyone more patriotic or less. For example, TPLF fought ELF, EPRP, EDU, DERG and more and the leaders of EPRP, EDU and another Tigray based party TPLF destroyed were Tigrayans.

I think the problem with Isayas and EPLF/PFDJ is more an ideological issue though there a dictatorial element. Look at chauvinist Amhara still shouting everywhere about Ethiopia being divided and weakened and still intending to make the country one and one by abolishing the current federal arrangement and that means reverting to the old days where everybody will speak Amharic and no regional autonomy.

I think PFDJ is caught with this problem. It is had been experimenting to form a united/totalitarian Eritrea speaking Tigrigna and Arabic languages only and holding mainly to biher-Tigrigna culture and nothing more. As a Tigringa speaker, I tend to support this stand but when I think of the rights of the other members of the society, I rather think regional autonomy might be the solution.

I believe you know Yosef G. but in case please read an excellent article he posted recently at Asmarino.Com and probably on his face-page too (The Somalization of Eritrea).

Tesfamichael Kidane, this is really sounds the truth face of Issayas, I am not even satisfied when you finish your article. May be the people like me want more & expand your article. He never had an agenda of Eritrea. If he kills all the educated and wise leaders, if he destroys the culture and good moral of Eritrean peoples, and if he is abducting our children from their mom and dads, if he told us not to cry while he kills our children, what else can he do than this evil things to Eritrea & Eritreans. I wonder why some people still defending him. Isseyas has never been the son of Eritrea or loves Eritrean people. He is evil, satan and devil born in Eritrea. We really need to learn more & defend for our basic freedom. I wander like “Wedi Beatay” tells us that EPLF succeeded in bringing a freedom. Yes they succeeded to bring in power an evil man and finally destroys the fabric of Eritrea. They do not even wake up now and telling us the truth or apologize to the people. They still want to come to power again.

  • Truly Truly i say to you March 2, 2014

Sorry! i forgot to mention his name from amongst genuine Eritrean i much respect , the honorable Ato Keleta Kidane, the genuen patriot, writer and politic analytiker. I love his direct speech and teachings, his clear political view and patriotic sentiment. Read what he writing at Meskerem net. Why worthy elders Eritreans like him, like Kibur Ato Habtemariam, and many others, rich in age and experience together by collaborating with wodi Vacaro, Amanuel Iyasu with religious leaders and Medrek, including other concerned intellectual Eritreans; like the Ethiopian elders and religious leaders they were mediating the conflict among Meles´s ruling party and oppositions that was created; Eritreans in their side, they do not try to mediate similarly? Atleast to rescue our nation dangerous existential situation ? Do not worring and disappointing you when our citizens systematically exterminating, our natural resource without accountability exploiting and going stolen, when we fighting each other? Have you heard for instance last week in Asmarino Radio what Feben Solmon announced the news, if she not mistaken while she read, the Potash mine that in Eritrea found it estimated around 150, bilions dollar she reported! Even it be 150, million dolar is it small money interst for foreighn private company owners? What is the use after we all lost, if the regime in Eritrea be changed? Well, i know most of you as you do not like to hear the word reform or compromise with Isayas regime, but you like to see his completely dismissal (fundamental regime change.) But let alone to dismiss him, are you with your own opponent comrades be able to agree, work and trust each other? So how could you bring fundamental change, since you do not have unity, to which is elementary primery step couldn´t do? In my view the mighty nation or foreign companies using wicked leaders, unless they finished exploiting our mine resources, i do not think they will come to help us to topple the regime. In my view this is the key point which has relevance to change everything, but more than that, the political and strategical vision and interest they have for the region has more relevance i would say. In my view, i do not think they happy by Eritrean independence, all their aim it seems me they working to favorite Ethiopia and to fulfill their dreams by offering Eritrea using Isayas and co. For the life short, may for own temporary benefit or because scare for their life may the socalled intelectuals they compromising the nation interest, but as i trust my Lord Jesus and love truth, i tell you frankly, this is the decisive point we all to give regard. Not the oppositions bla! Bla!; nor Isayas with his own might could stay in power. As i say only they determine either we live continuously to live in curse with Isayas, or to live normal. Sorry to say that! Spiritually might not be right, but politically in deed.

    • Tes March 2, 2014

      Truly,

With due respect you are mixing all together and you seems confused. You raise Ethiopia case and said “like the Ethiopian elders and religious leaders they were mediating the conflict among Meles´s ruling party and oppositions that was created; Eritreans in their side, they do not try to mediate similarly”? you have bad memory my friend. If you don’t knew about the elders of Eritrea, they were all 80+, had been imprisoned for being meditating between G15 and the crook boss of the evil junta. If you didn’t know this it doesn’t worth my time arguing with you.

You said” the honorable Ato Keleta Kidane”. What! why is this old man being honorable because he write day and night at Meskerem to belittle those who trying their best to bring change in Eritrea. I am sorry my friend you are buying assumptions and hallucination of that man. In Keleta dictionary going to Ethiopia is a crime. In fact he is HGDEF propagandist may be for money like wedi Ghoytuom.

You said “most of you as you do not like to hear the word reform”. Yes of course we don’t want to hear reform for a reason. First it was tried by G15 and failed. The time for reform is long gone. The junta you are implying to reform is a rotten organization. A house near collapsing won’t survive by reenforce. Don’t be silly.

You seem to link money as a security to stay in power and Eseyas is powerful. Yes he has money so did Gadafi and Sadam. That is enough to answer you.

You tried to belittle the opposition for being not effective but can you tell us your role on the movement. Or you are a side observer which is none of your business. Ether way check yourself first.

Have a good day and stick with your prayer and spread the good words rather than involving to something with little knowledge.

we were better off under Ethiopian rule we got tricked by tigraians to be separated because they can rule Ethiopia easily without us Eritreans!! We are in a big mess now even if we seek to join Ethiopia they will not accept us because they are better off without Eritrea it is fact!!!
We Eritreans have done so much damage to Ethiopia by alling with Italy, egypt, somalia & Sudan to distroy Ethiopia. I am affraid it is pay back time wheaher we like or not it is the rule of nature what goes around comes back around. We preached hate against ordary Amhara people now we are international refugees including in Amhara state.Best first to appologise to the Ethiopian people for fourty years of crime and Join hands as good neigbours until then Issays will make sure everyone of us suffer!!!

        “abdu

          belay nega,
You guys are just utter failures, because of your twisted beliefs you are genetically
inferior so stop your bullshit. Stirring people’s emotions doesn’t serve Eritrea’s
interest right now. Let’s work for a common solution.

    • selamawit2 March 2, 2014

      abdu ali,

you say the eritrean poeple (in general) committed crime to ethiopian people (in general for 40 years and should appologize for it? so you speak also about the time of mengistus “red terror”??? this must be a bad joke or a very macabre teasing!

      listen:
my people didn’t preach “hate against ordary Amhara people”.
they wanted to live a normal life in their homeland but it was not possible because they were opressed first by ethiopian monarchy and than by ethiopian dictatorship. they didn’t want to “distroy Ethiopia”, they wanted to save their lives, they wanted to escape despotism.

i really don’t like it if you banalise the difficulty, the tragedies my people went through, as well as i don’t banalise the catastrophy we are in now due to DIA and due to the fact that we didn’t recognize him early enough!

p.s. if you are a person seeking for peace, you shoudn’t mix despots with the people in that country. the ethiopian people are our neighbors, our brothers and sisters.
but those of them who are responsible for killing my people before 1997 were our enemies and the enemies of humanity.

    • Kalighe March 2, 2014

“Best first to appologise to the Ethiopian people for fourty years of crime …”

      Have you a brain ????
The Amhara should apologize to Eritreans for forty years of killing our people and looting our land .

It took them too long for some to figure out what and who IA is; I always thought that we Eritreans were analytical and brilliant! Well, may be I was wrong. If there are some who still think IA is good though, please forgive them for their brains may have not developed as of yet. I am sure they will join the rest of us when he is ousted. It will be a little too late though!
Let’s all see the bigger picture Eritrea and it’s people and forget about this greedy, selfish, evil and substantially less than human zambi and his embesil followers for we have a bigger fish to fry.
The rebuilding of our nation and the well being of our people is paramount and has priority over everything else. Let’s all join hands and work together to establish a party of young educated Eritreans who are willing to sacrifice their lives to rebuil our nation. IA’s Days in power are numbered – just a few months.
We were a happy people and never went to bed hungry; we had enough to eat and plenty of water to drink.
Together we win divided we fall. We have fallen enough, and now we need to be one and work together to rebuild our beautiful nation.
Victory is ours and Eritrea will be the beacon of light.
We are a loving nation and nations will love our
    nation too.
The prevailing stuation in our country will never happen again.
