Murder on the streets of Asmara

Earlier this week, on Sunday 3 April, the brutal Eritrean regime murdered tens of its own citizens. Forced conscripts who jumped from an army convoy were shot in cold blood and civilians who tried to help faced the same murderous response. No one knows exactly how many people have been murdered by the Eritrea regime this time but reliable reports say that nearly 30 conscripts were killed or injured, two civilians have been killed and an unknown number injured.

Reports from Eritrea say that this group of conscripts – victims of the indefinite national service imposed by the Isaias regime – were being driven to one of the slave labour camps. With the hope of escaping this state sanctioned slavery tens of these conscripts tried to escape the convoy as it was stopped in the heart of Asmara. Troops loyal to the regime responded by firing indiscriminately into the crowds.

Tragically, the BBC has reported, the civilian casualties came when “some of the recruits’ friends and family used a bus to block the road to help them escape”.

Those injured were taken to hospital where many sadly died of their injuries. Those who survived are reported to be under heavy guard.

Just this afternoon, the regime has acknowledged the deaths. The Government’s spokesperson has claimed two “national service members died…when they jumped and fell from military trucks.” A paltry response to the murder of young Eritreans.

As repugnant as these actions are and as tragic as it is to see young Eritreans murdered in their own capital city by their own government, it’s happened before and it will happen again. Those of us who care about the future of Eritrea and of Eritreans must now renew our efforts to support the Eritrean people and promote their universally recognised human rights.

In the coming days there is a vigil being held by members of the diaspora in London, UK.

      They are still sleeping.

    • Berhe Tensea April 11, 2016

Meskerem net and Keleta Kidane are paid agents and their main task to appear opposition and then create mistrust and confusion.
The manager of Meskerem and Keleta Kidane first class hypocrites, and the vast majority of Eritreans in diaspora fully know and consider Meskerem net as another pfdj website.
The good thing is that for a long time now people are saying ” Asena ,Erena, Asmarino said this and that among themselves, this includes even the few remaining pfdj supporters.

    • Berhe Tensea April 13, 2016

      the Land,
Keleta Kidane has chosen the Satan instead of seghdann jurbann’. He has almost no time left even to repent, the agony and the tears of Eritrean mothers will be unforgiving to him.He needs to be reminded of the goodghad the lonley goodghad that awaites him.

  • The Truth April 9, 2016

Pfdj supporters fall to two groups, the gullible bunch, they are victims of years and years of eseyas’s propaganda and lies. He tells them what they want to hear repeatedly and they feed to the lies and deception with out questioning. Most of them came to diaspora as children or were born in diaspora, thus they lack exposure.

The second group are self serving, arrogant opportunists that hide behind fake “patriotism” mask. They are waiting for national service to build them a Singapore that they can enjoy with their children during the summers and retire when they get old. He feeds them guylas and empty entertainment to alleviate their identity issues. As long as they are getting their regular guyla doses and false “development” stories they really don’t care about the nightmarish hardship, oppression, lack of freedom and basic rights that Eritrean people and especially the youth are going through.

The youth are snatched from their parents when they get 16 years old. If they don’t have relatives with money or connections, their only option is to languish in the fields for 20+ years with meaningless labor, hardship, no real education, no freedom, no payment. They are subjected to constant abuse and purposeful demoralization and punishments from their handlers, including extrajudicial executions at the whim of their handlers.

Even when they get 40+ years old they are refused to be discharged to lead their life. They can’t rent a place, marry, and lead normal life because they are penniless and have no skills other than manual labor. Their formative years were they get educated or learn a skill have been robbed from them. They are not allowed to work and earn a living, in the few cases were they are allowed their salary is confiscated by the gang “government”.

Its no wonder these youth chose to jump from speeding cars than being subjected to such a “life”.

The regime has used free labor for the last 20+ years, what does it have to show for it? Nothing. On the contrary, things are getting from bad to worse.

Every Eritrean child instead of being hopeful and looking forward to be a doctor or an engineer like other children, they are demoralized and traumatized because they know when they get a bit older they too will get to the slavery system or chose to escape at great risk to their very lives. The children are so traumatized that they actually fear getting older, thats why many deliberately perform poorly in classes so they can repeat a school year. How extremely sad is that? We have failed our next generation by being silent and allowing a dysfunctional and destructive junta to rule with no opposition.

Pfdj supporters in diaspora, you provide the best to your children, hope, education, freedom, luxuries. Why is it so hard for you to understand the situation of the Eritrean youth? Why do you support national slavery? Why can’t you put your children at the shoes of these youth? Why can’t “development” be done with free workers who are paid for their labor. Is it because the “development” is actually not a real project but rather a disguise to banish youth and young adults from the cities and demoralize and break their spirit and hope, to make them ran away from the country so your master can rule and play his dirty games with no fear of an uprising.

It all boils down to the insatiable power hunger of one maniac individual and his utter disregard and contempt for basic rights of Eritrean citizens.

Issayas from the time of his childhood was stubborn, combative and trouble maker. He had a lust for dominating others. he had the same attitude until he was completing his high school education. I had a friend whom he said had been slapped on the face by two devils. one was Mengistu hailemariam, when he was a petty officer in Harrerge(ethiopia) for looking at the “barrista” of the hotel not knowing she was Mengistu’s “wishima”(sex mate). and same slap in another encounter, this time by Issayas Afewerki, who was a class monitor of the time. Issayas since his early childhood, has develop an attitude of dominate others. when any one goes astray from his expectation, his temper boils off, and you become a victim. things about his personal became clearer right after 1991. He has put his personal ego above the population/nation. the nasty character he had manifested in his upbringing has outgrown in to full fledged tyranny. such people will not change their attitude up on aging, instead, they will only die with it. The same attitude drove him to go for war with Weyane. He have had 7-years of preparation for any eventuality in case his ego is violated, and amassed a new recruit of 140000(7X20000.)Hitler another tyrant in industrial Germany, promised to bring them fame and glory and initially succeeded in deceiving most of the population. Too late but finally, they had to come out of the ashes and ruins of 5-years devastating war.Isayas through boastful words and body languages promised to deliver the Eritrean invincible and elevate Eritrea to glory/high statue. Some of us even opened champagne to cheer for the intangible trophy(glory),upon hearing that Eritrean Air force has bombed Mekelle sadly turned out to be Ayder elementary school. Bademe was used to cover up his trigger-happy behavior to deceive his nation. Issayas by blood calculation is 75% from Tigray( Tembien and Adwa mix) and 25% from Kebesa, and he has no attachment to his Tigrian. we could certainly say, he has messed up golden opportunity of the north people who have suffered 100-years of Menelik implanted discrimination and the bloody 30-years war of its aftermath. Look at the current development project of Jibouti $14000000000(14-billions) just a population of 800000, while Eritrea with population of about 6-million and with strong potential and foundation for development comparatively has been denied such strategic infrastructure opportunity due to our tyrant president’s freaky behavior that revolved 360 degrees provoking every neighbor from Yemen unti clockwise all the way to Jibouti. All the fan fare and showcase of the Bademe EDF trenches in 1998 by our president himself, evaporated in less than five days of face to face combat. not only ordinary Eritreans, but intellectuals like U.S professor Tekie Fisehatsion with out exception have been lulled in to supporting the tyrant adventurous and dangerous mission.Jibouti used this historic blunder and has fully overtaken the future roll of Eritrea. there is no way to recover this strategic damage. Even Tigray and Amhara states will get their import/export needs via port of Tajoura through high speed(110km/hr) electric train. all the champagne cheers for “higher state/glory” ended up with a sad story and countless misery. thanks to our tyrant president, Eritrea, with long coastal line, with relatively significant educated people at least at the time of 1991, with significant diaspora population dating back to the times of liberation, has gone down far below most African countries in its GDP. Since the 30-years of bloody war brought nothing but misery, and slavery, people have learned their lessons and decided not fight any fight but quietly abandoning it in a manner that compare’s to the war shattered Sorya and Iraq war migrants. Melles referred to Shaebyans as “Semamat”, either they could not think right or they can not learn from the past. a Tyrant psychology does not acknowledge mistakes and do not recognize human rights. they believed in terror and shire force and only become malleable to a force that is threat to their own survival. In conclusion, people have decided to wait for the nearly aging president to die naturally and hope to reclaim what is left of their country and freedom.

I am just curious to ask to brothers & sisters who are more concerned (or should I say emotionally charged against) about the Teclays and alike but not much strong push against those criminal hgdf supporters; such as meskeremnet/keleta Kidanes.
To me, those criminal generals from Adi Nifas are equally guilt Hagos Kishas/Yemanes/Isayas’s from Tembien.

    • Mihret April 10, 2016

      Simon G.,

I absolutely agree with you that some commentators are just emotionally charged for nothing and they just want to look good/internet tigers in front of one or two eyes. We sadly are in a family farm politics where the usual game of “Hikhekheni kehakekha”, you scratch my back I scratch yours kind of amatuer politics.

The devil Isaias has the gods up in heaven and foot shoulders on earth and in between mother-less children are crashed under the unbearable weight of intellectual adventures. This is the grim and horrifying reality on the ground for poor Eritrea. At least Mr K.Kidane did mention the murdered victims on his message/plea to Isaias.

    • Genet-orginal April 13, 2016

      Brother Simon G
I have no idea what the propose of your comment is? are you saying, it is oky with you when outsiders are disrupting our discussion? The fact is those outsiders are not helping us. The intruders are helping the criminals, not the poor Eritrean people. Why do you think they are using multiple pen names? have you asked them?

      • Simon G. April 13, 2016

        Sister Geneta,
Even if they have multiple names, I can see who they are (in most cases). I also know their intentions. It is the same thing that has not changed for the last few years at this forum. To summarize it, they don’t seem to accept Eritrea’s independence. It is very hard trying to convince a person who doesn’t respect our independence. What kind of independence is different question but nevertheless it is independent Eritrea. This is already closed thru referendum.
I agree with some of their comments on how hgdf is running the country but I respectfully disagree when they question our independence. Who doesn’t?

What irritates me the most though is that we are not giving the time to the worst of the worst Eritreans who are supporting the regime.
What is the difference between Monkey or Filipos? They are both killers. Actually, I blame the Eritreans who are part of the killing machine more than those who with no Eritrean blood. That’s the purpose of my comment.

  • Eritreawit April 10, 2016

The Dictator succeeded to dumb down our people by shutting down our University not allowing a chance for our people to go to school to advance their thinking. Look at these people in this forum , they can’t even figure out how the imposters of Tigray Tigregne , Teclay, cowface, oromai Eritrea and more Eritrean haters , writing not a single positive criticism unless bashing and demoralizing our people and Country. You haters there is no Tigray Tegrigne, not on our watch, The dictator back home and you here abroad cons pirating to destroy our society is disgusting. In Eritreans killing another human being was a rear occurrence, but thanks to the cancerous dictator killing is everywhere. ALL evil will not pass unpunished, wait your turn. karma will get you. Eritreans please get together mend your communities, no fighting you have been destroyed from inside. open your eyes people.

  • Kahsay Mekonnen April 10, 2016

Four simple things you can do:

    1. Share the news links with your city media (radio, newspapers and TV)
    2. Tweet and ask the Minister of Misinformation questions (names of the dead and injured, remind him of his day of reckoning, etc.). Flood tweeter with your disgust. Be polite but firm.
    3. Share the news with elected officials in your city and country.
    4. Boycott PFDJ festivals and events. Keep the change in your pocket.

    • berhe April 11, 2016

Good points. Eritreans inside the country should also participate by boycotting all events. Empty seats and no one dancing will send a clear message to the junta with out putting the people in danger. The people need to start showing their defiance and disgust at the regime.

You must be a paid agent. Your comment is all about, you don’t want Isayas to go. You hate Ghedli. What exactley do you want from Eritrea?

This is getting worse every day for the last 32 years because we have been crying only instead of working together in finding an organized solution. The only solution we have is to centralize our opposition under the basics of the National democratic principles to form a solidified n United one front of opposition. In order to achieve this process, all political caters/leaders of all the scattered opposition units owe to the Eritrean mas to give up their power hanger n give in to the National consciousness and work for solidarity under the principles of national democratic process.
