Women for Change in Eritrea and Eritrean American Community of Las Vegas commemorate International Women’s Day 2015. Our annual workshop included our mothers and sisters; where we all sat down together and enjoyed a very productive discussion, with our brothers right beside us like family. Our message of “Empowering Women” was discussed in depth in regards to all women beginning with the mothers role raising children in the diaspora and assimilating themselves as Eritrean American, considering a portion of our sisters who are now with us have been in the United Sates for a short time, and are challenged with balancing there lives with motherhood and woman hood in America as new arrival from Eritrea; along with our young sisters like Selena Semere a student at UNLV, who is involved in her local community to our young sisters who came from Shimelba about 5 years ago to Las Vegas, Nevada only to complete there education and now are already attaining there dreams to become Registered Nurse; these special young women are Elsa Tesfa and Elsa Michael, we salute these young women and future of Eritrea!!!!!! Our in depth discussion was led by our Women for Change in Eritrea who gave there experience as Eritrean American Women who were born and or raised in the States, where we wanted to motivate and inspire our sisters of Las Vegas, to “Empower” themselves and know that “sky is the limit,” and with strong Eritrean Women who “Empower” themselves will in turn “Empower” there families and communities, ultimately, “Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity.” In conclusion with the support of the Eritrean American Community of Las Vegas it was ultimately decided to create an Eritrean American Women’s Association of Las Vegas, where the women will form an association to assist, guide and lead in various issues and community events. We as Women for Change will support in this venture and give our sisters of Las Vegas positive moral and a helping hand in any way possible. On behalf of both Women for Change in Eritrea and Eritrean American Community of Las Vegas we would like to thank our brother Yohannes Wedi Tikabo, for supporting your sisters and singing a song he wrote for us “Women,” for March 8, we are thankful and blessed to have a supportive brother who truly believes in the strength of his sisters; and our brother Tedros Redie who assisted our workshop and being our technical support thank you. The participation from our sisters Abby Assefaw from Jacksonville, Florida, Alicia Tesfalem, from Lincoln, Nebraska, Semharwait from Portland, Oregon, Semira Sebhatu Hagos from Atlanta, Georgia and Mimi Abraha Rufael from Oakland, California; our Women for Change in Eritrea, our inspirational sisters, whose love and dedication to our people is so immense and truly believe in “Empowering our Women, Our People, Our Nation.” On behalf of Women for Change in Eritrea we would like to thank board members Abdu Diyaa, Yoki Bahta, Tekle Woldemariam, Ambasager Tsega, our sisters Nebiat Adhanom, Yodit Hailemariam, and Sara for there assistance in organizing a wonderful International Women’s Day 2015!!!!!
