HELSINKI – A Swedish court has sentenced an Eritrean asylum-seeker to life in prison for stabbing a 55-year-old woman and her adult son to death.
The Svea Court of Appeal says the 36-year-old man, Abraham Ukbagabir, had confessed to the Aug. 10 stabbings at an Ikea store in central Sweden and that he was responsible for causing the deaths of the two victims. He also stabbed himself.
The appeals court said Tuesday it was upholding the Oct. 30 verdict of a lower district court, which found him guilty of the two killings. Judge Birgitta Bylund Uddenfeldt said there were no mitigating circumstances.
The court agreed with an earlier decision that Ukbagabir be deported but it was unclear if he would serve prison time in Sweden first.

lock him up this criminal bastard.

What happened to the case of mental disorder. Most killers in North America are assumed to be mentally ill and usually get lighter sentences.
His lawyers must have failed him, otherwise many criminals with the exception of blacks can get easy sentences in the West.
Therefore, may be his skin color has something to do with this.

Zeray December 22, 2015
Berhe,
Why are you making excuses for someone who murdered two lives? Don’t you know there are Eritrean criminals too? Let Justice take its course. Thanks to Swedish law on capital punishment at least his life will be spared.
Berhe Tenesea December 22, 2015
To Zeray,
I am sorry, if he is a normal person he deserves life in prison for taking two innocent lives.
AHMED SALEH !!! December 22, 2015
Unless we have full information about his case , we must refrain ourselves from jumping in conclusion . Insane people commit crimes
for no apparent reasons and we don’t know about this person ?
hana December 23, 2015
yes. Stop jumping to defend for the criminal only because he is ERITREAN.
hana December 23, 2015
it looks you want to say that the sentence was not fair. This is clear Hypocrisy !!!
Kenta December 24, 2015
I’m swedish and if there is evidence of mental disorder the court can decide för treatment in a locked mental hospital and this is usually more years behind bars with more restrictions than serving time in prison. Sometimes the treatment in mental hospital is successful and the person will be transfered to a prison to do the rest of his punishment there.
Salina December 25, 2015
Berhe, don’t you feel ashamed to defend a cruel killer? Don’t you feel sorry for the families and loved once of the two innocent victims that were murdered unfairly? Whether from Eritrea or Mars a killer is a guilty murderer and should get a minimum life sentence. If u genuinely want to help Eritreans then there are many meskin/innocent Eritrean refugees all over the world desperately seeking for help from their country men/women.
Aman December 23, 2015
I agree with you Ahmed. We do not know the whole story hence we would rather refrain. I felt sorry for the 2 lives when I first heard the news and I still feel sorry now but I suspect our brother must have serious mental health issues. Although there are criminals in every community for an Eritrean attacking a host community members is unprecedented.
AHMED SALEH !!! December 23, 2015
Aman
Remember the white guy who killed 77 people in Norway get 21 years
in prison sentence . In USA the criminal justice is lenient to
white people comparing black people face their legal system .
In case of this Eritrean regardless the crime committed to call for
fairness is moral obligation . Those who try to condemn him based in
their weak emotion may react differently if he was family member .
oromay December 23, 2015
The Swedish government and people donot deserve such brutal crime for their hospitality.
Kenta December 23, 2015
I’m Swedish and in Sweden you can get a life sentence for murder if it is proved that you planned the murder and if you are not under age. Mr Ukbagabir has confessed that he planned to kill someone that day because he was not allowed to stay in Sweden, he had to go to Italy where he came from. So he got a life sentence because he planned to murder.
In Sweden is a life sentence not for life. It will be tried in court after maybe 14-16 years and the court might decide to change life in prison to maybe 18-21 years instead or something else. Good behaviour will let the prisoner out i freedom after two third of decided prison time.
Mr Ukbagabir will be deported to Italy after he has done his time in prison and will not be deported to Eritrea. It is possible that he can serve his prison time in Italy but I assume that the Italian prison system will hit him harder so he will stay in Sweden.
Neguse December 24, 2015
It doesn’t matter who and what it is. If Mr. Ogbagaber planned and killed those innocent Swedish people justice should be served. If he did not allowed to stay he should and must fight in other legal venues.
