Eritrea coach proud in defeat

Omer Ahmed, the Eritrean national team coach, is delighted with his side’s effort despite the Red Sea Camels losing all their two opening games of the GOtv Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup. Eritrea lost by 3-0 margins

Omer Ahmed, the Eritrean national team coach, is delighted with his side’s effort despite the Red Sea Camels losing all their two opening games of the GOtv Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.

Eritrea lost by 3-0 margins for the second successive game, this time against champions Uganda at the City Stadium on Monday.

The defeat left them with the slimmest of chances, if any, to progress as the best losers while victory ensured Uganda made the last eight with a game to spare.

But while the Cranes were all over Eritrea in the first half, scoring all goals in the period, the Red Sea Camels did make an impression after recess, boasting of great chances themselves but being let down by inexperience and poor application in front of goal.

That second half display especially gave Omer some encouraging notes. “For me I think I have been happy with my boys’ performance,” he told supersport.com.

“As you can see, we have been losing big in previous campaigns but not playing well, but now we lose 3-0 against Sudan, and now 3-0 against Uganda, but we play better (than before).”

Omer added: “We play a very tough team, Uganda… we play the champions. In the first half they play better and score their chances.

“But for us in second half we play very well, beautiful football, we pass the ball better but when we reach the box, my players don’t have experience to score. We are a young team and have no experience like Uganda. But we are growing and will be better.”

Eritrea face Rwanda in their last group opener with each side hoping to score as many as possible to hang in there, depending on results elsewhere.

I think bado seleste 03 is so close to Eritrean life. All the misinformation what we used to get from 03 higdef propoganda now we got them in Kenya and Uganda. Before we get basketball kind of goals please Mr Coach wake up from your dream and see the reality on the ground. Mr.Coach you can’t just go like GIFA style gathering young boys from the corner and go to regional or international matches. My Eri boys, we will not blame you if you abandon the regime and look for freedom but we do blame you if you bring us terrible defeat which will go in Eritrean football history for the coming generation. A country who made Ethiopia to won the 3rd African Cup should not act like circus clown in football field. You guys have been mistreated for years by the mafia regime and not ready to play heart fully for this regime again I’ll say for this regime…higdef want us to dance, play . work , pay for him and we will not do that. I’m 100% sure the player from inside Eritrea will decide to stay in Uganda and that should be the right decision…

    Assenna,
The way you presented the topic( the news ) is not fair.
Yes Eritrea has lost. But when reporting about the comments made by the coach , u are misreporting it in your analysis. Never ever can a coach say that he is proud of his team’s defeat. Read carefully to what he is quoted as saying.
He has not indicated that he is proud because of the defeat. He is comparing the defeat with the previous defeats the eritrean team have had experienced. All he is saying is that the loss we faced is not as bad as it used to be.
More over, do not associate the failure of the team with the coach as u have neither attached it with any individual of the team. The poor performance of the National team is only a reflection of the irresponsible and careless treatment given to the members ( as it is to all youngster Eritreans ) by the government .
    Thanks.

Assena you are only report the negative side of Eritrea. How come you do not report the success of our Red sea cycling team who is making history in Egypt. You need to be fair when you report our sportsmen are representing Eritrea they are not political party. They are ours we should be proud of them. Few weeks ago they made history in Rwanda and now they are making history in Egypt. WE might not be good in soccer but we are the best in cycling in Africa. I am proud of our team.
