EMDHR Statement on the death of former South African President Nelson Mandela
The Eritrean Movement for Democracy and Human Rights (EMDHR) expresses its profound sadness at the death of the gallant freedom fighter, human rights activist, and peace maker Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela on 5th December 2013. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Mandela family, the South African people, and all peace-loving democrats around the world. The EMDHR recognizes the role Mandela and his comrades played in freeing their oppressed people and restoring their dignity at the expense of their own lives. We salute him for his unwavering commitment to freedom, human rights, democracy, and peace for all of humanity. While we mourn this giant of history, with the same breath we celebrate his contribution and legacy. Madiba has been and will always be an embodiment of the values and principles every human being aspires to achieve and enjoy.
With his inspiration we Eritreans shall never relent in our quest for freedom, democracy, human rights, justice, dignity, peace, and prosperity for our people and nation. As activists we recommit ourselves and our movement to the task of achieving these ideals. We know that our just struggle against dictatorship and for freedom and democracy shall triumph. Anyone who is inspired by Madiba must honour him and keep his legacy by opposing injustice, indignity, tyranny, dictatorship, and human rights abuses wherever and whenever they happen. Let’s start by opposing the tyranny of one-man rule in Eritrea today. We call upon all those who wish to continue Madiba’s legacy to stand in solidarity with the Eritrean people’s struggle for freedom, democracy, and justice.
“Let Freedom Reign…..”
