The Push Factor: Why Eritreans are Leaving

London, September 22, 2018 @ 17.30pm – 20.00pm

Venue: Resource for London, 356 Holloway Road, London, N7 6PA

The conference will be looking into why so many Eritreans are leaving their country at great risk to their lives. Over the last decade, Eritrea has produced the largest number of refugees per capita in the world, year-on-year even though there is no conflict: and much more than countries that are sadly ravaged, by war such as Syria and Afghanistan. The recent developments between Eritrea and Ethiopia have raised hopes of change but the number of refugees fleeing into the neighbouring countries continues unabated. The conference will focus on what is driving so many Eritreans to flee their homeland that they love, and if the recent rapprochement with Ethiopia will have any impact on the “Push Factor”.

Chairperson to be confirmed

17.30 – Welcome address

17.40 – 17.55pm Amal Bider – Eritrean Prisoners

17.55pm – 18.10pm Daniel Habte – Personal Odyssey

18.10pm – 18.25pm Alex Jackson – Amnesty International

18.25pm – 18.35pm Sham Gabriel – Europe’s Contribution to the Push Factor

18.35pm – 18.50pm Martin Plaut – Issues to be resolved: suggestions for a way forward

Correction: I can’t declare war on any body, because as a human right activist, because I believe in peaceful changes. The risk would be high if we do it violently as he is doing to us. No I would prefer Legally.
