A number of the major news agencies reported on 15 March 2012 that the Ethiopian armed forces carried out military raid in three different localities inside sovereign Eritrean territories. Without any qualms, the Ethiopian government’s spokesperson, who announced to the international media concerning the gratuitous aggression, also added that more attacks may be carried out in the future.
We in CDRiE unequivocally condemn this unprovoked and unjustified attack on Eritrean national sovereignty and call on the government of Ethiopia to immediately cease its threats of further escalation under any pretext. We urge instead both governments to seek peaceful and legal resolutions to their disagreements.
The attack on Eritrea’s sovereign territory is a very dangerous development that could lead to fully fledged confrontation with likely devastating consequences on the lives of the peoples of both countries. This will also exacerbate the already volatile political situation in the region.
Eritrea and Ethiopia have yet to recover from the effects of the last vicious and senseless war which resulted in the death of nearly 100,000 people and many more maimed limbs. War is the last thing the peoples of the two countries need. Not only are the devastating effects of the last war still apparent, but its root and proximate causes still remain unresolved. Many, if not all, of the salient conflicts in the region are directly or indirectly related on the one hand, to the unresolved border dispute between Eritrea and Ethiopia and on the other, to the mutual suspicion and hatred between the leaderships of the two countries.
CDRiE calls on the international community, in particular the United Nations Security Council and the African Union to take immediate action to nip in the bud the fledgling violent conflict before it is too late. The international and regional communities should bring pressure to bear on Ethiopia to comply with the United Nations’ Charter and other principles of international Law.

Come on CDRiE- we are not going into sacrifice trap. This skirmish or whatever happened is between Issayas and the Ethiopian government. Eritrea doesn’t have a parliament that could deliberate the action so far taken by Issayas. Did the Eritrean people approve Issayas’ engagement with Ethiopia on war and peace? Did we debate? Do we have free press to see different angles of the issue. Issayas stifled any democratic process and muzzled Eritreans. Hence, you are getting engaged and support his activities. Eritreans for change – don’t get involved as this is Issayas’ war – or you will lose traction and prolong his stay. Unless Ethiopia declared war of annexation and occupation and acted upon it – our sovereignty and territorial integrity is intact. Our borders are delineated and eventually will be demarcated ones we have good governance and normalization starts.. With the policy of Issayas, he could go into confrontation with any powers – US, France, UK etc. and if they want to punish him – are we going to take it as our sovereignty is in danger? Come on, play the right politics that could strategically assist the Eritrean people.

Well, it seems that hope is not still lost yet in the Eritrean political arena. As always, SDRiE has stood up while others have cowered as if they had not heard or seen the barbaric woyane’s violation of Eritrea’s territorial integrity and the killing of Eritreans in cold blood. What amazes is not the celebration of some people on this website and its taliban sister but the silence of the EPDP Tribe. Shame on me! I had once put so much hope on this organization as the most capable of putting Eritrea’s interests before anything else. May SDRiE become like Abraham and Sarah so that it can fill the Eritrean landscape with entities that will have similar programs. Why people rejoice by the barbaric woyane’s blatant violation of our nation’s territorial sovereignty and its cold blood killing of Eritreans inside their own country is inexplicable. Are these people unregistered psychotics or simply the majority of them are Ethiopians? Some even say it is okay for the barbaric woyane to invade Eritrea as long us the loss of lives are minimized as if Eritrean lives are like a company’s profit losses. This reminds me the great YG’s brilliant article: As long as the pain remains at the bottom (with the farmers and the dirty poor city workers) or as long as the pain and loss don’t touch the elites and the 10,000 mile-away dwellers, the agitation for war will continue till the last poverty ridden farmer or the city worker is left.

Ethiopian forces are now in the business of picking the low hanging fruits. What Issayas and his cronies have to be afraid of is the sleeping cells right inside of Asmara to take the nerve center of Ethiopian opposition party and Issayas himself. I am one of the people who appreciate your efforts, as an Eritrean civil society. However, in this case, you are deliberately misinforming people. We are not living in the first 7-8 years of our independence. 20 years after independence, we don’t have a leadership who does the works of a government. Do not compare apple with pebble (stone). In Ethiopia, whether we like it or not, there is a government, parliament, constitution, relative free press, freedom of religion, etc. with all its limitations. In Eritrea, we have generals and colonels who took their slices (zobas/provinces). With uncontrolled power, are doing what pleases them. No Eritrean could be happy by what is happening, however, WEDEN KEYHAMIAS SEITI WEDEN AYTGBERWO.
When are going to see genuine people who stand against the injustices and unimaginable sufferings of our people? The traditional opposition groups lack principle, and you seem to be people of special interest.
