Breaking News: Security Council to consider new Eritrea sanctions
UNITED NATIONS (AFP) — The Security Council will begin Tuesday discussing a draft resolution on imposing new sanctions on Eritrea for what a UN report describes as destabilizing actions in East Africa. Neighbor and long-time rival Ethiopia
UNITED NATIONS (AFP) — The Security Council will begin Tuesday discussing a draft resolution on imposing new sanctions on Eritrea for what a UN report describes as destabilizing actions in East Africa.
Neighbor and long-time rival Ethiopia has sought reinforced international sanctions since a UN panel in July said Eritrea was behind a plot to stage bomb attacks on an African Union summit in Addis Ababa in January.
The additional sanctions being considered included targeted measures against investment in the country’s mining industry as well as further asset freezes and travel bans on the Eritrean leadership.
The United States threw its weight behind Ethiopia’s call for new sanctions in August after the UN group that monitors sanctions said Eritrea was behind the bombing plot.
The UN experts also said Eritrea was arming and supporting insurgent groups in Somalia, including the Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab.
The Security Council imposed in December 2009 an arms embargo, travel restrictions and asset freeze on top Eritrean political and military leaders because of alleged support for the Islamist Shebab militants.
Eritrea has, however, accused its neighbor of staging a “frenzied campaign” for sanctions and says any measures enforced by the UN would hurt the Eritrean people most of all.
A six-nation East African regional group, the Inter-Government Authority on Development, has called for sanctions against mining interests and banning a government tax on remittances sent back by Eritreans living abroad.

The background picture in tandem with the breaking news steals the ‘show’. Very creative.
abdi October 18, 2011
Indeed, and the lion of nakfa roaring” ill show you ya kahdti “
ahmed Saleh October 18, 2011
I am sick you guys reapeating LION OF NAKFA. Your lion never shoot a bullet toward
the enemy in his life at GEDLI. The real lions of Nakfa I know are men as Berhe Tzaeda who
lead and march with his brave men inside Nakfa and died inside the city. Enough
distorting our true history.
Haqqi Nezareb October 18, 2011
Your lion of Nakfa last-ditch diplomatic trips and meetings recently are: more sanction, more isolation, and prevented from visiting Washington DC & Germany? But I have to admit that he had a successful meeting with his 2500 zombies New York meeting.
Don’t be frustrated buddy. Blame the rat of Nakfa.
abdi October 18, 2011
Aray beles wish is, to see thier rich next door falls rather than working hard to achieve what s/he achieved, bad spirits always pull them forward.
wish sanctions on Eritrea which won’t see day light,ya agame,
the lion of nakfa for ever.
Haqqi Nezareb October 18, 2011
Your frustrations is getting worse. The real lions of Nakfa are either dead or in prison. What we have in Eritrea are bunch of Rats of Nakfa, including your president.
Chill out buddy. Try to be civilized in your writing and don’t mimic zombies of PFDJ.
abdi October 18, 2011
Lol, read backward.
Nitricc October 17, 2011
There will be no sanction, thanks for the hard work Isias has shown for the last few months. In your dream assenna!
Haqqi Nezareb October 18, 2011
Good luck with your dream. The sanction is at the corner, the draft is being circulated in the security council. Your dictator will have more of his favorite liquor and many sleepless nights these days. I am sure your boss will be happy to join him for a drink or two.

Hi abid,
What do mean by Agame: Eritream Agames or Agames from Tigrai?
By the why I highly recommend you to read ” THE WOUNDED NATION” by Dr. Bereket. When you finish the book let us start discussing real stuff rather than TV ERI fabricated news and innuendos.
abdi October 18, 2011
Why wounded nation temesgen medhanie Arkey?,it is not enough to convince real eritreans after what he wished in the interview, unless somebody had his/er brain washed by woyane and too blind to see what’s in front of him/er. for me it won’t change nothing even reading it is a disgrace.so thanks.
and for those voluntarily had their brainwashed,i can’t say nothing other than,”enda semeE zetsqeTes enda reaye qbero”.
addis October 18, 2011
By supporting the sanction by going to meles for addvise the oppostion will not bring peace to Eritrea and will not get the support of Eritreans in back home. Look at the oppostion they are more depressed than ever at the same time fighting each other on small things imagine what will happen to them if they had to carry the responsiblity hgdf is carrying nada. I heard about the oppostion for long time but i never saw them working for eritrea all they accomplish is meeting over meeting. Look the meeting they had in addis when they finsh they said that it was great that is it awet bi awet eyu even amanuel sahle mention about it but look at them or their interview dr keir and the others nothing new the same trash. But it is good that they went because the hgdf supporters became more strong. The lion of Nakfa is enjoing his time in Barka while the rifraf went to ghion hotel.
Haqqi Nezareb October 18, 2011

You mean the rats of Nakfa. The real Lions of Nakfa are either dead or in prison.

in case if you my brother got this message… i miss you so much and my mum miss you so much.
God bless Eritrea and Ethiopia.
abdi October 19, 2011
good for ur brother, but Still they don’t have the right to interfere in our internal affairs, plus NO unification with agames, and don’t be so naive,im not sure about the number you claimed however they are not educating them for the sake of being eritreans nor the propaganda those unionists rumor “caring about eritreans”,,wake up,they get paid for each and every student from UNHCR so it not more than an income source for them.and if the Agames who crossing to Eritrea have that level Eritrea will not educate them for free as long as they are under UNCHR,but don’t why Eritrea is not using them for cash the way these Agames are using you or throw them out of the country?
What an funny joke, agame cares about Eritreans, huh
