dear assenna, this breaking news needs to be confirmed:
Following the defection of the entire Demhit rebels from Eritrea to Ethiopia with its long time charismatic leader Molla Asgedom, the situation around Omahajer has deteriorated and there is heavy fighting among several Eritrean military forces. This is probably some Eritrean top army commanders are trying to flee from Eritrea in mass to Sudan and Ethiopia. There has been several reports confirming several imprisonment of Eritrean top army officers in Gash-Barka as well Asmara.
The fighting that involves heavy artillery dueling have been heard in Humera, Ethiopia. The reports indicate that the area not far from Omhajer, a place called MaEluba is said to be a war zone.
Stay tuned: we will soon hear defections or suspicious deaths of high ranking military and security officers on the Eritrean side.
This interview by the former leader of the Demhit army – TPDM, Mola Asgedom, depicts a clear picture of the current situation in Eritrea. The interview is in Amharic. I urge listeners to post some translations on this esteemed Assenna websites commentary forum.
It is very sad to see Eritrea fall this low.
He said: we were more trusted than many top Eritrean army officers in front of the regime in Eritrea … My life and well being in Ethiopia can not be better than what the Eritrean regime provided me … I feel very sorry about the well being of the peaceful, welcoming, decent and humble Eritrean people; life in Eritrea is at its worst … I feel sorry for the armed fight we had to wage as we fled Eritrea and for the death of the Eritrean armed forces members along the way as to the deaths we had to incur on my side… I want to thank the Sudanese armed forces and public and the support they provided us by accompanying us on their own transportation with all our armaments to Ethiopia. The Sudanese told us “There is no problem … Sudan is your second country” … We know that there will be more murders and imprisonments in Eritrea …
Well Mr. Petros Solomon has said all good things. I have nothing to add or criticize him. Rather i want to praise him for his wise speech. We lost great fathers, the G-15.
Its just sad the ambitious nation and its dream that thousands of selfless brave men and women perished their lives for crumbled this way. How is that possible that ONE MAD MAN could do all these damage to a nation and for this long? Although, the G15 were responsible for their own demise by becoming victims of their own creation or not brave enough to approach the brutal evil they know most differently,I am not saying they deserve the pain they are going through at all but rather JUSTICE and immediate release.
The reason that their arrest didn’t touch nerve of most Eritreans was the belief that they did what they did when the brute of the dictator they created caught up with them. We strongly believe that they missed the opportunity to stand up to the brutal dictator when the poor wounded warriors (akale sinkulan )were massacred in a cold blood in Mai Habar in 1994 in a broad day light for demanding a kitchen table issues. Massacring defenseless wounded warriors that paid limps and other body parts that no any other nation on earth has ever done before for the so called “natsnet” and not stand up for them and died heroically was indeed a missed opportunity. Regardless what they did, they still deserve Justice.
Ezi Wedhankum,
Hi Assena, it’s a very sad to end their life of G15 and hero Eritrea Journalists, they had a golden an opportunity to kill dictator,in 2001,but they kept to discuss and negotiate with the Evil Issayas,it didn’t work their system,we had 3 best opportunity to throw the Regime, 1 in 1993 adma tegadelti,2 in 2001 G15 time also in 2013 Hero wedi Ali mission in Forto, even right now, the Golden opportunity is coming to us, because Demhit is out of Eritrea, the Regime is so frustrating, we have to do something to push him out from our country,if people are vows around Eritrean border from Ethiopia, we should help them financial and technical support to push into Eritrea,or we should contact with some Eritrean generarals who wants to defect from the Regime, we have to play any kind of role, before the Regime come back to his normal life.Thanks.
