I don’t know the intention of the survey. Is some one trying to do a research on domestic abuse targeting Eritrean women? If so, how old should a participant be, where should the current residence be, what if men or women of different origin filled the questioner? I guess it would be good idea to think about those and other aspects and follow a scientific procedure on collecting the desired date to be able to reach a desired conclusion.

It would be easier if you put five or six questions for people to answer. As it is shown now, we can not be of any assistance.

The intention could be important, but it is painfully un organized and unprofessional. You don’t just come out to ask people “fill out this survey, it is important.” Research doesn’t work like that. Write information sheet telling us who you are and why you are doing it; state the objective and purpose of the research; what is the category of participants needed: age, gender etc. If you were my student, I would give you an F right on the spot!

  • How about marriage betraya piror to issues of abuse ... men or women February 12, 2014

If your idea is to highlight the problem and cure our community of its disease then maybe you should make a survey about the outrageous issue of marriage betrayal among our community, then after that talking about abuse will make sense, for in the diaspora women are very secure, they can call 911 on you and have you out of the house not because of abusing them but to abuse you if they wanted.

Betrayal of marriage vows by those members of the diaspora bring as their married partner a man or a woman is very common and for no apparent good reasons in most cases. From the people around me, I am not making it up if I say more than 50% of marriages that happen between a man or a woman who has been leaving outside the home land to a woman or a man from the home land is getting betrayed! That is an abuse primarily to the immediate spouse, and abuse and heart break to all the loved ones around, fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers and most children if they for any reason wait to have a child with the partner who suffered went all the way from US, Canada, Europe etc… to merry to someone from home land, the land the miss and love so much.

What is the intention? Who is the instigator? Name, age and background of the person. Why now? what would it be used for? Does it mean women between the lines? This is a very sensitive issue. One has to be careful. To delve into the issue would be a monumental endeavour. The broadcast of a result of such an information could lead to undesired consequences. One has to realize that we are different people both economically and politically, and hence socially. It could be like grabbing a grid of 700 Volts with out being an electrician. Go deep into the matter. The maze is under the cornhusk.

      Selam Gerimuna,

I agree with you. This could be put out by some student trying to get some data for his/her school paper or it could be a genuine person who is looking for a solution. If this was coming from an organization that is reputable and is into helping women and society fine; but we don’t know. Just because someone put a survey on some website doesn’t mean it’s legit and for good intentions.

        Dear NewiHuna
I would rather be open minded then closed. However, This kind of practice in the west is intended for the destruction of family, all families. The prove is in the pudding. We have a culture and served us well. We don’t want to tamper with it. See Chiwa’s comment below also.

This person is hired by white people to destroy our society, our culture, our custom our family value and our religion and to make more mess in and interfere with our peaceful daily life. Come out and tell us who you are and who you represent. Simply because you want funding and popularity from western government you want to destroy our family value. You one of those human traffickers and you run out of luck so came as a researcher to destroy our family value and our society. So you do not want to talk about the torture and rape and the inhuman treatment by the Arabs, even the NAZI concentration camp is not a match to our women suffering at the hands of traffickers and you prefer to talk about minor issues among minority people.
Let me tell you I have seen several family being scattered, destroyed and became homeless by some Eritreans and Ethiopians who were hired as social workers by western countries governmental and non-governmental agencies. To destroy our society they contract Eritrean/Ethiopian women among us and they infiltrate our society and cause chaos in our family and community. The social workers Eritrean/Ethiopian women are spies and up to bad intentions. They introduce themselves to our community but they do not tell you that they are there hired by governments and none governments as social workers. Then they observe any conflict or rift among our families then they try to convince your wives or daughters to leave the house and make a permanent mess and create hell to the family involved.
In western countries the law of domestic violence is only targeting our community. Because our women are illiterate and do not know that the law has a devastating effect on their family and community and use domestic laws intensively with detrimental effect. None of those western women use the law of domestic violence because they know that it will affect their entire family and will go on for ever. You research should be what effect does the” law of domestic violence in our community” has? I can assure that you will be flooded with participants from jail, from graves and from homeless people and from mental hospital and from children whose future was destroyed and were made dysfunctional families because of these domestic violence or intervention laws.
You are a coward, your motive is greed and evil purpose. Instead of tackling the barbaric issue of trafficking you chose to destroy our social fabric by saying “BETRI HABUNI ZIHMIKO ALENI”. My advice to you is go to Sinai and Libya and survey those people who are still being tortured and do not forget to include yourself in your statistics because they will torture you too and you will be happy with your research. We solve our domestic violence with our traditional, cultural and customs way not through infiltrators, spies, intent to destroy our family.
We are struggling to unite as one community and you are trying to cause a rift within our families. You are in a failed mission.

      Dear Chiwa
This kind of practice in the west is intended for the destruction of family, all families and ours at best. The prove is in the pudding. We have a culture and served us well. We don’t want to tamper with it. See Chiwa’s comment below also. You hit the nail on the head.

please, leave the beautiful eritrean culture alone. Do not destroy what is left too soon. If all these distorted western values were of any help the western world family values won’t be disintegrating. Yes, there are things that need to be addressed ,but copy-cat studies is not the way to go.

  • hagos February 12, 2014

mrs Writer . here in the west there is no domestic abuse against women. it is against men. if you are trying to make a research just go to eritrea . but here you must change your study to “domestic abuse against men”. then you find it easy
