Excellent article. I do agree with your intake about the Eritrean psyche as you categorization in to three points. However, the underlining weakness is the second point which is our sheer ignorance and backwardness. Not because of Our people fault, but we Eritreans lag way behind others in the scale of skill and education due to successive foreign rulers compounded by home grown repressive junta. Along the way we lost our self believe and became submissive. We stop to rage whatever ill carried on us and be came zombies, sub-humane. I am not excluding myself, we are all in it. The entire population became a willing slaves. I can give you example, warsay who was in the receiving end for years when the got out of the country some go straight to the representative of the regime to ask excuse from their abusers and some work with them. They knew their abuser kills, imprisons ,even rapes including their close family members but they still go to their Gayla and meetings and pay 2%. I can list a number of things amuse an observer but not for an Eritreans. Even our neighbors revolt when the price of bread increase by few pence ( in Sudan) but not in Eritrea they even dance on their dead bodies of their brothers and sisters under the instruction of their abuser and it is considered by those zombies as patriotic zeal. It is going to take years to restore our confidence and to confront head on to the abusers. In the mean time let do whatever we can to free from those shackles.
It’s not easy to revolt against your own government, we have never done it before. Till all of us get rid of the deep seated conviction that ‘this is our own government’ we will continue to passively endure abuses of the shifta regime. We hate the brutal regime, but strangely, our anger is short of doing any harm to the very people who are bleeding us.
It’s like when you have a serious problem with a family member, you hate him/her but you are not going to kill him/her. You want him/her to change his/her ways. You patiently wait that to happen.
The dictator is well protected, but his men, his protectors are people we meet everyday in cafes and bars, with many of whom do business, exchange family visits ..etc. We complain in private, but when we see such people, the very people we should talk to or confront, we remain silent. We have this strange feeling that he/she is a victim too. That is why we rarely read something bad about Wedi Efrem, just to mention one of the criminals who is in the inner circle of the dictator.
But if someone mentions region, religion or ethnicity .. oh my God .. many seem to be ready to go to war .. it’s armageddon.
Iseyas won’t be there for long, but post-dictatorship era will be too complicated and painful too.
Bravo brother Teame Berhe. Please more of the same top qaulity from you sooner than later. The misery back home is so bad that the currupt Higdef leadership is only a bullet away to crumble, just like that of Tunisia and we are just waiting for one brave Eritrean like that brave Tunisian man to set the revolution and uprising alight.

analysis speaks the truth of weak points which
has been problematic barrier for time being in Eritrean political process . But we refuse to
accept our failure and if we didn’t show honesty
to confront the negative side the road ahead will
