Thanks Aranshi for mentioning this issue. I always oppose this motto – Eritrea for Eritreans! I don’t even understand why Eritrea is only for Eritreans. This kinds of slogans are outdated by world standard, and most of the time they are condemned as racist rethoric. Where would we have lived had the Germans said “German is for Germans.” Where would we have lived had the British said “Britain is for British.” Ofcourse they are their countries and Eritrea is ours. No body deny that as long as Eritrea has its own national flag. So what advantages do we get by mentioning this absurd slogan without any substance? Don’t you think we are digging our own grave? Don’t you think we are inviting enemies rather than minimizing them. If we don’t agree with some people or ideas, fare enogh, we can comment on. Otherwise, no country has claimed its own country as its own. By doing that we are inadvertently claiming Eritrea has other owners except Eritreans. Lets discuss this matter seriously guys.

Me also i normally don’t like wordings wich are often used by right wings politicians. Especially if it comes to powerfull countries like the ones you menshioned. But i think it make a different who makes this formulation.
For exmaple if the red indians or the “aborigines” of australia and of other places would (have) said this, it would be totally acceptable because they are maybe then saying something else than the germans and the british.
It makes a different: does it come from somebody who is weak – weaken by others – and try to be stabil/hold stability by empowering his identity or did somebody formulate this who is very powerful and who trying to exclude others…
Eritrean are not trying to exclude others when they say something like this. They/we are between the lines saying: no more anexion, no more oppression etc…

The comments forced me to read again Aranchi article . He explained in detail the false allegation

ARABS ” . Eritrea for Eritreans slogan has patriotic message since our great fathers in 1940’s ,
Eritrea is not for sale . One of those active nationalists who advocate was Abona Woldeab W/mariam ,
so be aware the origin of the person can’t be decisive conclusion to judge a person because evils
come from every corner . Counting the number of evils origin inside the country , majority of them
hail within inside Eritrea . Anybody who have a problem with Eritrea to Eritreans have his own issues
because we are the only owners of our national affair .

Hi “Selamawit”, I really agree with you. It really makes a diffrence when and where and by whom it is said. When our fathers said Eritrea for Eritreans, they meant, Eritrea is not for Italians, Eritrea is not for British or Eritrea is not for Ethiopians. But when? When Eritrea’s destiny was blur. When Eritrea’s case was considered by United Nations without any vote from Eritreans. Now Eritrea has become for Eritreans and it is independent, offcourse it is not free. We are under our very own oppressors. Not any one but Eritreans. So what do they mean now when they say Eritrea for Eritreans? Let me predict two answers through their eyes: one is that Eritrea is NOT for Ethiopians who never claim Eritrea is for Ethiopians, at least for now. Secondly, they may see the Eritrean opperessors as Ethiopians because of their blood which I never agree. So what is the motive behind this motto? As you said, I try to read between the lines and my conclusion is that it is unworkable and outdated.

1. i do not know a single Eritrean who denied DIA only for the sake of his “blood”! It is the selling, raping, killing of our brothers and sisters that led to denial. His criminal labor reaches a dimension that was never reached by Eritreans or even Ethiopians before. This leads to the legitimate question, if he would love to destroy Eritrea the way he is trying it, if he had Eritrean “blood” or if Eritrea was the land of his ancestors.
2. the further point is that his core cadre is dominated with people of Ethiopian origin, which was his selection and it’s
unlikey that this is an coincidence.
3. Till the last few years most of Eritreas thought the war in 1997 was artificially initialized by the Ethiopian government to take away our red sea port(s) etc. from us.
1.-3. Means that the people of Eritrea did not have a feeling that their their sovereignity was secure for the last 120 – 125 years and therefore a still in a alert situation…
Therefore it is understandable and legitimate that Eritreans say “Eritrea for Eritreans” without being racists.
And therefore it is “workable” and topical.

Thanks Selamawit for repling to my comments. Once again let me make myself clear. First of all I am supporting Aranshi’s article not opposing it. (ኤርትራ ንኤርትራውያን ! ንመን ድኣ….?) What I am trying to convey is that there are some people out there who say consistently Eritrea for Eritreans. I believe this rhetoric is self-explanatory. Look the far-right wing parties in Eruope for example: National Party of Germany (NPD), Natinal Front France (NF), British national Party (BNP), Democracia Nacional of Spain with the slogan Behave or leave the country…etc. These handereds of parties throughout Europe have one common ideologue. They don’t want to see any other national in their own country. This now! when this people who advocate Eritrea for Eritreans have tanks, army and guns, they will shrink this motto to Asmara for Asmarinos or Metahit ndeki Metahit or Red sea for Massawinos…etc. Where is it going to end? So we all know Eritrea belongs to Eritreans. Full stop. We do not need people who trumpeting this for us. If not they are not Eritreans.

sister,you make excellent point..but i think when people say eritrea for eritreans..it is because there are opposition fronts and partys that breath using weyanes lungs & promote weyane agenda .while i am happy neighbours aiding eritreans but there is a line they should not cross. i believe weyanes agenda is to disintegrate eritrea in collaboration with higdef.

Of course you are right: Those who would love to destroy Eritreas sovereignity “come from every corner”! But you know what, sometimes they can inwilligly make us stronger and more reflecting by asking challenging questions.
If they question our intentions e.g. why we say “Eritrea for Eritreans” we are more or less “forced” to answer this question – at least for ourselves. After that, nobody – with evil agenda or honest couriosity – can surprise us with such a question.
In short: As long as it is such a questions, we can handle it – and grow. 🙂

Mr.Aranchi you have misunderstood the slogan isn’t Eritrea for Eritreans’ instead ‘Eritrean solution for Eritrean problems’.
It is a completely different phrase and implication. Full stop.
After all what is your problem? You are doing what you think is right and we’ll do what is right concentrate on what you can do or are you blaming others your failure to do any concrete progress? Don’t use insulting words that shows how uncivilised and weak you are. You guys talk about human rights and democracy but you are the first to deny the rights of people to choose. ዝኸበርካ ሚኪኤለ እምባየ፡ኣብ ቀዳማይ ክፋል ጽሑፍካ፡ ብዛዕባ ክመጽእ ዝኽእል ናይ ርሑቕን ቀረባን ዓመታት፡ እምነትካን መረዳእታኻን ክትገልጽን ከተስፍርን ጽቡቕ ኮይኑ ይስመዓኒ። ሕቶይን ስክፍታይን ኪኖ’ቲ ንስኻ ትቆጻጸሮን ትፈልጦን፡ ነብሲ ወከፍ ደላይ ፍትሒ ውድብ ኮነ ማሕበር፡ እቲ ምስ ኢትዮጵያ ዘለዎ ስምምዓትን ንመጻኢ ዝኣንፈተ ስትራተጂን ክትፈልጦን ክትቅይዶን ትኽእል ኣይመስለንን። እወ፡ ልክዕ’ዩ፡ ኤርትራ ናይ ኤርትራውያን እያ። ነዚ ምዝርዛርን ምዝኽኻርን ኣየድልዮን። እታ ናይ ኤርትራውያን ዝኾነት ሃገር፡ ኤርትራውያን ዘይክረብሑላን ዘይክቐስኑላን ከም ዝኽእሉ ክንርዳእ ዘለና ይመስለኒ። እቲምንታይ’ሲ፡ ኣብ ጎረባብቲ ኢትዮጵያን ኤርትራን ዘለዋ ገለ ሃገራት፡ ናይ ዜጋታተን ክነሰንን ዜጋታተን እናነበሩለንን ካብ ባህርያዊ ሃብቲ ክሳብ ክብሪታት እቲ ሕብረተሰብን መጻኢ ዕድል ናይ’ቲ ሃገርን ኣብ ምልክት ሕቶ ዘእተዉ ከም ዘለዉ ትዝንግዖ ኣይመስለንን። ስለ’ዚ፡ ኤርትራ ናይ ኤርትራውያን ምዃን ኣኻሊ ኣይኮነን፡ ካብ’ቲ ዝዓበየ ክሳብ’ቲ ዝነኣሰ ኤርትራዊ፡ ዝረብሓሉን ብዘይ ጸቕጢን ምትእትታው ካልኦት መንግስቲታትን ንነብረላ ሃገር ከም ትኸውን ከተረጋግጸልና ዝከኣል ኣይመስለንን? ኣብ’ዚ ምዕቡልን ረቂቕን እዋን፡ ሓደ መንግስቲ ወይ ሃገር ንካልእ ሃገር ወሪሩ ክሕዝን ኪጎብጥን ዝደሊ ኣይመስለንን። ነቲ ኣተሓሳስባ ናይ’ቲ ሕብረተሰብ ብፍላይ ድማ ናይ’ቲ መንእሰይ እንተተሰሪቑን እንተገይሹን፡ እቲ ሃገርን ህዝቢን ኣንጻር ልኡላውነቱ ደው ክብል ተኽእሎ ዘሎ ኮይኑ ይስመዓኒ። ነዚ ርእይቶ ዘበገሰ ጽሑፍካ፡ ንጽሑፍካ ዘበገሰ መግዛእቲን ምዝመዛን ህግደፍ ኣብ ልዕሊ ኤርትራውያን ክሳብ ዝኾነ መጠን፡ ፈቲና ጸሊእና እቲ ማክያና (ህግደፍ) ምስ ጸረግና፡ ሃገርና ብለባማት መራሕቲ ትምሕደር ሃገር ትኹነልና’ምበር እዚ ዘሎ መድረኽስ ዘየሰክፍን ኣይኮነን። ብዛዕባ ዝመጽእ ዓመታትን ኩነታትን ክንተኣማመን ንኽእል ኣይመስለንን።
