I would like to thank Asena for inviting Dr. Bereket to lend his wisdom and patriotic experience to the youth. It is good that Asena is trying to correct its error. Next time, Asena has to verify veracity of facts before jumping into posting articles that defame people.

Our primary enemy is the top echelon of the PFDJ. This includes the top dog, Isaias, and his henchmen – these are not more than ten people. The PFDJ is no longer an organization since it does not conduct congresses, elect its leaders etc. These are our targets. We should not fall prey to the writing ability of demagogues. (Remember Hitler was a very powerful demagogue who fooled highly educated Germans.)

Alena falsely accused Dr. Bereket; he sullied his name and denigrated his personality. We, Eritreans, do not have that many giants such as Dr. Bereket. The ratified constitution despite some failures here and there is a superb document that includes all the civil liberties that are enshrined in the universal declaration of human rights. Only on that contribution, Dr. Berekt deserves a great acclamation and honor from Eritreans. On top of that, Dr. Berekt is in the forefront of the fight for the rule of law in Eritrea. Thus, we should not allow a rude agent provocateur and demagogue like Alena defame our patriots.

        Dear Asena,

This has nothing to do with freedom of expression. In fact, freedom of expression applies to the state and not individuals and institutions and entities like Asena. To be precise, the state is not allowed to censure people. However, entities can censure ideas that do not conform to their mission statement. No one has a legal right to publish any article he desires in Asena for example.

Private entities like Asena do not have a right to publish articles just because a simpleton gave them an article. They have a journalistic responsibility to make sure that facts are correct. In addition, they have a responsibility that some elements do not have a devious way of defaming people, which Alena definitely did when it comes to Dr. Bereket. What Alena wrote about Dr. Bereket is not a debate on issues; it is simply a pure defamation.

Dear Asena, by any measure freedom of expression does not mean you have a right to publish a defamatory article on your site. You have no legal right to hide behind a lame excuse that someone gave you the article. You have a journalistic and moral responsibility to make sure false items and defamatory articles are not published in your site. You have no legal right to be an accessory to defamation. Your involvement of the fight for democracy in Eritrea does not give a blank check to get engage in a libel activity.

Bro you need to realize that journalistic resposibility applies to one who presents and publishes one’s article as a fact , that involves editing. Here as you are enjoying writing your comments, any one can too. Asena do not have the manpower and the means to verify every comment that comes from four corners of the world. That is why they gave you the right to responde to any article ,that you think is wrong or right “freedom of speech”bro, thus cool dawn , wish you well!

    Pt#1
Dr Bereket has a lot of axe to grind. He was to be crowned as the man to help write Eritrea’s first ever constitution before find himself thrown out of the country and the stain of “traitor” clearly marked on his forehead. Does such a man be in a position to be trusted with Eritrea’s future when clearly has a personal circumstances that may render him unlikely to form impartial views about the homeland? This is not about whether you agree or disagree with his views, rather the reality that his personal situation involves a fall out with the current leaders of Eritrea at the highest and personal levels. This explains why he is allergic to the notion of pressuring woyane to abide by the “final and binding” deal of border demarcation. He is not interested to hear of the IDP in the border areas and nor does he care about those dispossessed people of Ethiopians of Eritrean decent.

      Pt#2
Dr Bereket tells us to open up the boundary issue and re-negotiate, the deportees are a distant and fading memory and Mekele Unversities are dolling out scholarships. All we need to do is overthrow the Eritrean govt. by popular uprising and for the rest; we will figure it out when we cross that bridge. If you say nay to his this old man’s vendetta laced mambo jumbo, you are blind follower, ignoramus, mislead, mistuned, malformed, deformed, any ugly adjective is fair game to force you to succumb to his selling out. Well, Can he answer one simple question; was he being paid in US dollar when he worked in Eritrea on his assignment of coordinating the writing of the constitution? Did he continue to draw out salary from the GOE (amounting to $28000) from abroad while intending to abscond and resign from his duties? Is he an honest man or a Thieve?

        Hi Kozami or Kedami,

We heard these incriminations for the last ten years since Dr. Bereket put his signature on G13 or the Berlin Manifesto. You are still repeating the same thing here. Please leave him alone. He is busy writing books for the next Eritrean generation. I understand your frustration because the demise of the non-Eritrean clique in Eritrea is in sight. By the way, another sanction is coming your way from the UN and as usual put the blame on Dr. Bereket.

Amet mlmanka gber ya agame, and leave Eritrea’s issue to eritreans, sanction, huh?

          • Haqqi Nezareb October 18, 2011

            Hi Abdi aka kozami
You seem frustrated. Which agame are you referring: The Agames in Eritrea or The Agames from Tigrai?

          Looking to Asian banks
Iran has managed to use small, local banks based in countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Malaysia to facilitate smaller cash transfers back to Iran. To deal with banking constraints for larger money transfers, the NIOC and Central Bank have engaged in book-to-book accounting with willing trading partners, primarily in Asia, whereby refineries buying Iranian oil pay the NIOC with the purchaser’s local currency instead of US dollars.
Earnings from oil sales are deposited into locally held accounts and spent in that country to finance imports into Iran, according to Tehran-based financial advisors. Any surplus balance is used as collateral to obtain loans for project financing, in order to avoid having to obtain letters of credit, which are now more difficult to obtain as a result of sanctions.
Mr. Ferrari, the attorney specializing in US Treasury legislation, said such financial moves don’t fall under the jurisdiction of OFAC-administered sanctions against Iran. “For Asian banks that don’t have a presence in the US, we don’t have authority to charge them or enforce the sanctions,” he says.

I just finished listening to Dr. Bereket’s interview and I must say that, once again, Dr. Bereket graced us not only with his otherwise calm demeanour but with his razor sharp intellect as well. I hope “Alena” is taking a note not only the lesson to take to heart is patience is a virtue but it is as well a measure of political maturity. “Alena” seems to have built its political edifice on a sand where it went on vilifying Dr. Bereket instead of weighing in till the latter elaborates his supposed bombshell comment. I like to take this opportunity to thank Amanuel Eyasu for stepping in to straighten things out. All the power to you hawey.

    • abdi October 17, 2011

What ever he said to cover his clearly stand for unification, too late and too big to be forgiven.he was and will remain unionist kedae.

      • Haqqi Nezareb October 18, 2011

        Hi Abdi,
What a frustrated person! The identity-crisis is killing you. It is ok to be rude these days, because the honorable Doc. is speaking the truth. He also got a chance to admit the mistakes he did with respect to the endorsed Eritrean constitution, which is hijacked by the dictator we have in Eritrea. Like everybody else he was fooled by Issais and his cohorts. Good job Amanuel for giving the chance to Dr. Bereket to tell the truth.

        • abdi October 19, 2011

Huh, you think it was truth meskiney? the dogtor is deceptive enough to fool billions like you,he is capable of playing eggs and stones at one time, hgdf knew his whole background before usig him,but they was playing him until they got what they wanted, and kicked him then after and only option he left with is to chase the Ethiopian side dream(the dream of sea access, unification)and twist realities to survive, hence he suggested negotiation about the border to please Ethiopia (his enat hager)despite the decision was made by eebc, and you woyn brainwashed have nothing to say other than the dog is telling the truth until you see him putting down the eritrean flag and raises the ethiopian one infront of you.

mind bro “no smoke without fire”

  • issu October 17, 2011

This is a guy who have been lived and served his entire life for ethiopian. So he was an ethiopian he is an ethiopian and he will be an ethiopian. Moreover, he is selfish and ambitious to be a leader of Eritrea without any price. No surprise, he can go on his way. More importantly, he has no any right or moral to talk about Eritrea. Instead he can give explanation to his boss Chenawi Zenawi.

  • yasin October 17, 2011

Thank you Dr. Bereket for your intellectual advise!!!! May God bless you!!

  • GOOD MAN October 18, 2011

I TOOK THE OVERDOSE OF THIS INTELLECTUAL DIDN’T HELP. IN A WAY I AM VERY SCARED OF HIM. HE IS INSECURE AND UNSURE ABOUT THE ACTUAL STATE OF HIS MENTAL HEALTH. HE IS AN INTELLECTUAL CONTAMINATION, AND HIS SOUL MIGHT BE TURNED WRONG SIDE, AND HE DEFEAT HIMSELF LONG TIME AGO. I’VE A FUZZY FEELING ABOUT HIM. HE HAS NO BRIDE. HE IS A POKER PLAYER, AND HE WILL BET THE ENTIRE COUNTRY, TO BE THE LEADER. I THINK, IT IS TIME FOR HIM TO TAKE A NAP.

    • Haqqi Nezareb October 18, 2011

      Goodman;

If you doubt the mental state of Dr. Berket, how about PIA (Issais? He should be confined to in a psychiatry hospital where he belongs instead of allowing him to destroy Eritrea.

    Re. THE ERITREAN CONSTITUTION

If I am not mistaken the ratified constitution did not forbid the government from dispatching Eritrean soldiers to fight in foregn land.
I think we should clearly state that NO ERITREAN CITIZEN WILL BE SENT TO A FOREIGN LAND TO FIGHT, or something to that effect.

    Regards

    • Senait October 18, 2011

      Selamawi,
“NO ERITREAN CITIZEN WILL BE SENT TO A FOREIGN LAND TO FIGHT” type of issues are very specific. You cannot legislate such matters in a consititution. Eritrea’s current problem is that the government /regime is acting with out and beyond the powers of the constitution. Simple put, if the constitution was implemented, the matter would be upto the elected representatives of the Eritrean people. Mind you, we may have genuine national interest to send a citizen to a foreign land to fight.
