ሎሚ ህዝቢ ኤርትራ ንመሰረታዊ ሰብኣዊ ክብሩ ክከላኸል ዘይክእል፣ ኣዝዩ ድኹምን ዝተበታተነን ህዝቢ ኮይኑ ኣሎ። እዚ ሎሚ ዘሎ ምትርማስ መሰረቱ ትማሊ ኢዩ። ነቲ ናይ ትማሊ ከም ዘለዎ እንተዘይተዛሪብናሉ ድማ ጽባሕ ንኸይድገም ውሕስነት የብሉን። ንነዊሕ እዋን ስለ ዘይተዘርበሉ መሊሱ ክገድድ እምበር፣ ትም ምባልና ዘምጽኦ ፍታሕ የለን። ፖለቲካዊ ባህሊ ህዝብና እምበኣር፣ ናብቲ ናይ ትማሊ ዘይኮነስ፣ ናብቲ ናይ ቅድሚ ትማሊ ክምለስ ኣለዎ።

ጠንቂ ናይዚ ሕጂ እንርእዮ ዘለና ፍልልያት ድማ፣ እቲ ከተማዊ ናይ በጋሚንዶ ጠባይ ሒዙ ዝዓበየ ጉጅለ፣ ነቲ ሓቅነትን ግርህነትን ዝመለለይኡ፣ ብዙሕ ተንኮላት ዘይፈልጥ ካብ ገጠራት ዝተሰለፈ መንእሰይ ከታልል ምኽኣሉ ኢዩ።

 

ኣብ ዝሓለፈ 9ይ ክፋል፣ ብዛዕባ የማነ በርሀን ዓሊ ኢብራሂምን ኢየ ተዛሪበ። ነቲ ኣብ ውድብ ህዝባዊ ግምባር ዝጸንሐ ኣብ ታሪኽ ንውልቀ-ሰብ ዝወሃብ ናይ ክብሪ ቦታ ስለ ዘይጸንሐ፣ ንዕኡ ንምስዓር ይሕግዝ ኢዩ ዝብል ግምት ኣለኒ። ምኽንያቱ ታሪኽ ናይ ህዝቢ እኳ እንተኾነ፣ ነቲ ህዝቢ ዝመርሑ ውልቀ-ሰባት ስለዝኾኑ፣ ሰባት ከከም ኣበርክቶኦም ክግለጹ ጽቡቕ ይመስለኒ። በዛ ትስዕብ ሑጥበ-ጽሑፍ ድማ ኢየ ተፋንየኩም።

“የማነ በርሀን ተስፋልደት ስዩምን ከም ኣብነት ድኣ ቀሪቦም እምበር ካልኦት ከም በዓል ኢያሱ (ዓዲ-ቢደል) ወዲ ዘረፋ፣ ዑቕባይ (ዓድታቶም ኣይፈልጦን ኢየ) ብርሃነ ካሕሳይ (ዳሕራይ መራሕ ጋንታ)፣ ኪዳነ ገብረስላሴ (ቂጣው) ወዘተ ዝኣመሰሉ ኣድናቖት ዝገደፉለይ መራሕቲ መሳርዕን ምክትላቶም ምጥቃስ’ውን ግቡእ ይመስለኒ። ኩሎም እዚኦም ግን፣ ገለ ኣብነታት ናይቶም ኣሽሓት ተጋደልቲ ጥራይ ኢዮም።”

ጨንፈር/ ሚኒስትሪ ትምህርቲ

ካብ ሓይልታት ድሕሪ ምውጽአይ፣ ኣብ ቤት-ትምህርቲ ሰውራ (ጨንፈር ትምህርቲ) ከም ዝተመደብኩ ክብ ኢለ ገሊጸ ኣለኹ። ኣብ መጀመርያ ሚያዝያ 1983፣ ኣነ ናብቲ ኣሃዱ ቅድሚ ምምጽአይ፣ እቶም ኣብ ቤት-ትምህርቲ ሰውራ ዝነበሩ ዓበይቲ ተማሃሮ፣ ብገለ ኣባላትን መማህራንን ተሰንዮም ብስም ‘መሃይምነት ናይ ምጥፋእ ዘመተ’ ናብቲ ብድሕሪ መስመር ዝፍለጥ፣ ሓውሲ ሓራን ተወራራሲ ቦታታትን ፋሕ ኢሎም ነይሮም። ምምሕዳሮም ድማ ብዞባታት ዝተጠርነፈ ነይሩ። እቲ ዞባታት ነቲ ኣብ መንጎ ቀንዲ ጽርግያታትን ዓበይቲ ከተማታትን ዝርከብ፣ ጸላኢ ብቐሊሉ ዘይበጽሖ ከባቢታት የጠቓልል። እቲ መሃይምነት ናይ ምጥፋእ ዘመተ እምበኣር፣ ኣብ ውሽጢ’ዚ ዝተባህለ ጸቢብ ቦታታት ተቐርቂርካ፣ ምስ ወፍሪ ወዶ-ገባን ናይ ጸላኢ ናይ ስለያ ስልኳታትን እናተቖራቖስካ፣ ኣብ ዝከኣለሉ ቦታ ጥራይ ዝግበር፣ ፖለቲካ ዝዕላምኡ ወታደራውን ኣካድያሚያውን ስራሕ ኢዩ ነይሩ። ምስ ብርትዐን ድኻምን ጸላኢ፣ በብግዝይኡ ዝቀያየር’ኳ እንተነበረ፣ እቲ ምምሕዳራዊ ቅርጺ ብኣጠቓላሊ ነዚ ዝስዕብ ይመስል።

 

ዞባታት- ዘመተ ምጥፋእ መሃይምነት፦

  1. ዞባ ሱዳን፦ እዚ ነተን ኣብ ሃገረ ሱዳን ዝነበራ ኤርትራውያን ስደተኛታት

ዝመሃሩለን ኣብያተ-ትምህርቲ የጠቓልል።

  1. ዞባ ሳሕል፦ ነተን ኣብ ሓራ መሬት ማለት ኣብ ሳሕል፣ ከም ባቕላ፣ ሮራ፣

ኣግራዕ፣ ከባቢታት ናቕፋን ካልእ ከባቢታትን ዝነበራ ኣብያተ-

ትምህርቲ የጠቓልል።

ዓዲ በርበረ ወዘት የኣጠቓልል።

ምቁጽጻር ጸላኢ ርሕቕ ዝበለ ቦታታት ማለት ንከባቢታት ላዕላይን

ታሕታይን ዓንሰባ፣ ከምኡ’ውን ንገለ ዓድታት ላዕላይ ባርካ ማለት

ገርገር፣ ጉርዒ፣ ዓዲ-ዑመር፣ ሸበቕ፣ ዴዳ፣ ዒን፣ ክሳብ ከባቢ መንሱራ

ይዝርጋሕ።

  1. ዞባ ደቡብ፦ እዚ ድማ ካብ መስመር ኣስመራ – ዓዲ-ዃላ ንምብራቕ፣ ካብ

መስመር ኣስመራ ዓዲ-ቀይሕ ድማ ንደቡብን ምዕራብን ማለት ንከባቢታት መረታ-ሰበነን መረታ ቀይሕን፣ ተድረር፣ ትምዛኣ፣ እገላሓጺን፣ ክሳብ ጾሮና ዝዝርጋሕ ኮይኑ፣ ካብ ጽርግያ ኣስመራ ዓዲ-ቀይሕ ንሰሜን ድማ ንከባቢታት ዓላን ዓደረሶን’ውን የጠቓልል።

  1. ዞባ ምብራቕ፦ እዚ ድማ ካብ መስመር ጊንዳዕ – ባጽዕ ንደቡብ ክሳብ ደንከል

ዝዝርጋሕ ኮይኑ ንከባቢታት ፎሮ፣ ኣፍታ፣ ዙላ፣ ኢዶፋይለ፣ ባዳ፣

ወዘተ የጠቓልል።

  1. ዞባ ማእከላይ ምብራቕ፦ እዚ ድማ ካብ መስመር ጊንዳዕ – ባጽዕ ንሰሜን፣ ካብ

መስመር ከረን ኣፍዓበት ድማ ንምብራቕ ኮይኑ፣ ንከባቢታት

ሸባሕ፣ ሽዕብ፣ ገድገድ፣ መትከል ኣቤት፣ ሰለሙናን ከባቢታት

ሰሜናዊ ባሕርን የጠቓልል።

 

… ብዘይካ እዚ ኣብ ላዕሊ ክብ ኢሉ ዝተገልጸ፣ ሓደ ንመዓስከር ስደተኛታት ሰለሙና (እንዳ ህዝቢ) ዝከታተል ኣካል ከም ዝነበረ’ውን ይዝረብ ኢዩ። ኩሉ’ዚ ኣከፋፍላ’ዚ ናተይን፣ ነዚ ናይ ሕጂ ጽሑፈይ ክሕግዘንን ድኣምበር፣ ወግዓዊ ምምሕዳራዊ ቅርጺ ናይ ጨንፈር ትምህርቲ ከም ዘይኮነን ኣንባቢ ክርድኣለይ እፈቱ። ኣብዚ ሕጂ እዋን መብዛሕትኦም እቶም ብህይወት ዘለዉ፣ ነቲ ምምሕዳራዊ ቅርጺ ብንጹር ዝፈልጡ ኣብ ኤርትራ ስለዘለዉ፣ እቶም ኣብ ስደት ዘለዉ ድማ ክዛረቡ ዘይደልዩ ወይ ድማ ክረኽቦም ዘይከኣልኩ ኢዮም። ስለዚ ከኣ ኢየ ወግዓዊ ምምሕዳራዊ ቅርጺ ከቕርብ ዘይከኣልኩ። ኣብቲ እዋን’ቲ መማህራንን ኣብ ታሕተዋይ ጽፍሒ ናይ ሓላፍነትን ምስ ዝነበሩ ሰባት ከም ዝተዘራረብኩሉ ግን ክገልጽ እፈቱ።

 

በብግዜኡ ዝነበሩ ሓለፍቲ ዞባታት፦

ነዚ ክብ ኢለ ዝገለጽኩዎ ዞባታት በብእዋኑ ዘመሓድሩ ዝነበሩ ሓለፍቲ (ዋላ’ውን ንሓጺር እዋን) ድማ እዞም ዝስዕቡ ነይሮም። ሕጂ’ውን ኣብ ስደት ኮንካ ዝተማልአ ጽፉፍ መጽናዕቲ ከተካይድ ስለ ዘይከኣል፣ ገለ ዝተረስዐ ወይ ጌጋታት ክህሉ ከም ዝኽእል ክገልጽ እፈቱ። እዚ ግን ካብ ናተይን ካብ ገለ መሳርሕተይ ዝነበሩ መማህራንን (ካብ ዝዘከርናዮ ጥራይ) እጽሕፍ ስለ ዘለኹ፣ ንዝፍጠር ሃጓፋት ቦታ ንምግዳፍ ድኣምበር፣ ‘ካብ ሓቂ ዝረሓቐ ኢዩ’ ንምባል ኣይኮነን። እቶም በብከባቢኡ ዝነበሩ ሓለፍቲ እምበኣር፦

 

ቃልኣብ ሃይለ፣ ጎይትኦም ተስፋዮናስ፣ ተስፋማርያም ተኸስተ – ወዲባሻይ- (ሕጂ ኣምባሳደር ህግደፍ ኣብ እስራኤል)፣ ጸጋ ጋይም (ጓል-ሻምበል)፣ ወልደ-ማይክል፣ ሃይለ ኣልኣዛር፣ ሓኽሊ ዝበሃል (ሕጂ ስሙ ዘይዝክሮ)፣ ሃይለ መብራህቱ፣ ሃይለማርያም ኢዮብ፣ ገብረስላሴ ዮሴፍ፣ ጎይትኦም (ደጎም)፣ ዑስማን ሳልሕ (ናይ ሕጂ ሚኒስተር ጉዳያት ወጻኢ ኣብቲ መጀመርያ እዋን)፣ ወዘተ ኢዮም። ብተመሳሳሊ ሓላፍነት ኣብ ቤት-ትምህርቲ ሰውራ ትሰርሕ ዝነበረት’ውን ኣስመረት ሃብተሚካኤል ነይራ። ንኹሉ’ቲ ኣብ ድሕሪ መስመር ዝካየድ ዝነበረ ትምህርታዊ ንጥፈታት ዘወሃህዱ ዝነበሩ ድማ ጴጥሮስ ሃይለማርያምን መሓመድ ኑር ኣማንን ከም ዝነበሩ ኣብቲ ቦታ ዝነበሩ መማህራን ይዛረቡ። ኩሎም እዞም ኣብ ላዕሊ ጠቒሰዮም ዘለኹ ሓለፍቲ፣ ብዘይካ ሓኽሊ (ኣቐዲሙ ካብቲ ጨንፈር ዝተቐየረ) ክሳብ ናጽነት ኣብ ጨንፈር ትምህርቲ ዝነበሩን፣ ብህይወት ዝኣተዉን ኢዮም።

 

እዞም ክብ ኢሉ ኣስማቶም ተገሊጹ ዘሎ ሓለፍቲ፣ ነቲ ብኸበሳን መታሕትን ዝፍለጥ ጅኦግራፍያዊ ምክፍፋል ወይ’ውን ንክልቲኡ ዓበይቲ ሃይማኖታትን ንብዙሕነት ህዝቢ ኤርትራን ብልክዕ ዘንጸባርቑ‘ኳ እንተዘይኮኑ፣ ብውሑዱ ግን ካብ ዝተፈላለየ ከባቢታት ዝመጹን፣ ምስቲ ዝነበረ ናይ ጸላኢ ወፍርታትን ስልኳታት ወዶ-ገባን እናተዓጻጸፉ ነቲ ትምህርታዊ ኣገልግሎት ዘወሃህዱ ዝነበሩ ተጋደልቲ ኢዮም። ኣብ ግንቦት 1991 ሰራዊት ህዝባዊ ግምባር ኣስመራ ኣብ ዝኣተወሉ እዋን፣ ከም ሓላፊ ናይቲ ጨንፈር (ጨንፈር ትምህርቲ) ኮይኑ ዝሰርሕ ዝነበረ፣ ናይ ሎሚ ሚኒስተር ወጻኢ ዑስማን ሳልሕ ኢዩ።

 

ድሕሪ ናጽነት

ህዝባዊ ግምባር ኣስመራ ኣትዩ ግዝያዊ መንግስቲ ኣብ ዘቖመሉ እዋን፣ እቲ ብደረጃ ጨንፈር ትምህርታዊ ኣገልግሎት ዝህብ ዝነበረ ትካል፣ ክፍሊ ትምህርቲ ተባሂሉ ኢዩ ክጽዋዕ ጀሚሩ። ተጋዳላይ በራኺ ገብረስላሴ (ሎሚ ብዘይ ፍርዲ ኣብ ጎዳጉዲ ዒራዒሮ ተኣሲሩ ዘሎ) ድማ፣ ንዑስማን ሳልሕ ተኪኡ፣ ከም ሓላፊ ናይቲ ክፍሊ ተመዲቡ። በራኺ ብደረጃ ሚኒስተር ከም ሓላፊ ናይቲ ክፍሊ (ደሓር ሚኒስትሪ) ድሕሪ ምምዳቡ፣ ኣብ ማ/ ቤት ጽሕፈትን ኣብተን ዝነበራ 9 ኣውራጃታትን ከም ሓለፍቲ ኮይኖም ዝተመደቡ ሰባት – ኣስማትምን መበቆል ዓዶምን እዞም ዝስዕቡ ነይሮም።

ኣስማትን ከባቢያዊ መበቆልን ናይዞም ክብ ኢሎም ዝተጠቕሱ ሓለፍቲ ኣብ/ትምህርቲ፣ ብውሑዱ 3 ካብቶም ኣብ ወሳኒ ቦታ ናይቲ ሚኒስትሪ ዝነበሩን፣ ሓለፍቲ ናይ 6 ካብተን ዝነበራ 9 ኣውራጃታትን፣ ተወለድቲ ዝተወሰነ ከባቢ ነይሮም። እዚ ኣወዳድባ’ዚ ንመብዛሕትኦም ኣብቲ ቅድሚ ናጽነት ዝነበረ ኣካድያምያውን ወታደራውን ስራሕ ብተዓጻጻፍነት ዝመርሑ ዝነበሩ ሓለፍቲ ኣሊኻ ወይ ኣደስኪልካ ዝተገብረ ስለ ዝነበረ፣ ብመደብ ልዕልና ተወለድቲ ውሱን ከባቢ ንምርግጋጽ ዝተገብረ ምዃኑ ዘካትዕ ኣይኮነን። ምስቲ ክብ ኢለ ኣብ ብርገድ 51ን 58ን ነይሩ ዝበልኩዎ ኣወዳድባ ሓለፍቲ ብምንጽጻር ክረአ ከሎ ድማ፣ ብገርሂ ዝግበር ዝነበረ ናይ ኣጋጣሚ ሕቶ ኢዩ ንምባል ዝከኣል ኣይኮነን።

    እዚ ኣብ ሜዳ ዝተገብረ ግን ብህይወት ሰብ ምጽዋት እዩ ።ምስዚ ላዕሊ ዝጠቐስኩልኩም ሕማቕ ኣመል ዝስራዕ ኣይኮነን።ግፍዒ እዩ።እቲ ድምበዛናይ ጻዕዳ ተስፋይ ተምነዎ ኣብ ዓይኑ ዘንቆሮ ዓቢ ገበን እዩ።
    ኣነ ፣ከም ሓማሴናይ ብዝበለጸ ነዚ እከይ ተግባር እዚ ዝኹንኖን ምስ ሓው ታደሰ ኢድ ንኢድ ተተሓሒዘ ዝወቕዖን ድማ ፣ግምባር ቀደም ነቲ ዘፍቅሮ ህዝበይ ፣ህዝቢ ሓማሴን ስለ ዝጎድኦ እዩ። ኢሳያስ,ንህዝቢ ሓማሴን ከም ኮንዶም እናተጠቕመ ብዝበለጸ ንህዝቢ ሓማሴን እዩ ዘድምዮ ዘሎ።ሓሳዊን ሃላይን____ ኢሳያስ ናትና እዩ ኣይጠቕመናን እዩ።ካርነሽም እያ ዕራቓ ትወጽእ ዘላ ካብ ኩሉ።ዩ ኣቢሲንያዊ ሻዕብያ ህግደፍ ፧ንካርነሽም እንታይ ጌራትላ እያ፧
    ከም ጎንደር ብጊዜ ናይ ግዝኣት ኣምሓራ ቀዳድ ምዓኮሩ ተኸዲኑ ኩራት እራት እናበለ እናደንቆረ ክነብር ድዩ።ወያነ ኢህወደግ ምስ መጸ ድኣ ህዝቢ ጎንደር ምዕባለ የርኢ ኣሎ ።
    ኣነ ሓማሴናይ ዝፈልጦ፣ሰብ ካብ ትግራይ ይኹን ጎጃም ወረ ኦሮምያ መጺኡ ኣርብዓ ዓመት ንዝተቐመጠ ጓልን ርስትን ሂቡ ዝነብር ዓቃል ህዝቢ እዩ።ሕጂ ግን ዘይፈልጦ ህዝቢ ሓማሴን ይረክብ ኣለኹ ።ኣነ ምእንቲ ኣከለጉዘታይ ተሓሊቐ ኣይኮንኩን ነዚ ዝብሎ ዘለኹ፣ከም ሓማሴናይ፣ካብ ሰገነይቲ ከይደ ዝረኽቦ ፍቕርን ፍትሕን ብህዝቢ ሰርብያ ወይ ፊሊፒነስ ዝሐሸ ፍትሒ ከም ዝረክብ ኣይጠራጠርን ።ስደት ብዙሕ ኣርእዩና እዩ።

      nice to hear from you again, You are write they don’t belong to any one that is my strong Believe hgdef they have most support from diaspora people visitors between 5-6 weeks a year or every 2 to 3 years. Isaias can’t even provide them or allowed them to finish their houses. hoping they might go to live one day who knows when? I don’t know why Eritrean people they don’t ask very simple Q to them self,are they good to any part of Eritrea????? why are people supporting them? knowing they are destroying them. The good thing is I do go Asmera, from what I see and my understanding is people are more intelligent, and very open mind than people living in diaspora which is very important I don’t see any division they have nay habar demtsy which is LEWTEY!!!!!         Thank you for understanding the over all message of my comment .If we cover up our illness or put band aid on it ,it only gets worse .I urge the new generation to make educational seminars and turn the Awraja agenda to it´s original place, ie… An identity of a place of birth ,not necesarily ethnic or tribal or religious.
        I as a Hamasen on my father´s side am deeply offended that most of the criminal organizations head´s happen to be Hamasienites .I do not get my pride from killers .I love my Hamasien Awraja people for their broad minded hospitable culture. Atleast how they were when I left them.

          The problem is the time I should have been in my kifle -hager,now¨country¨ ,Eritrea ,is that I left before I could develop peaceful and mature life so my knowledge is limited..inspite the book of weledo was kept at my grandparents merebAt …ie..Paulos Queshi mihtzun & Zewdi Gwangul´s residence in Geshnashim.
          ¨ I know our clan that originated from Dembiya/Gonder (being children of Nigus Meron & Nigus Dembiya)..we left our ¨Akele¨ brothers at Mereta Sebene..and we ,being the ¨Guzai¨ part of the Akeleguzai…marched upto Geshnashim. The father figure of our (the brothers Akele & Guzai)…migrated with us to Dimbezan Geshnashim……Our Akele brothers used to send us food & other necessities of daily living (kind of food stamps)as we had the father with us. ….However eventhough our Clan father eventually died ..we the geshnashimites kept on collecting the food stamps that was being provided from our mereta sebene …however our brilliant brothers from Mereta Sebene decided to visit our clan father and visited Geshnashim…only to be surprised that he died few years back.So they named our village Geshna nishm…(ጌሽና-ንሽም)ንሽሙ ኢና ጌሽና እምበር ኣቦናስ ሞይቱ እዩ ንምባል እዩ..thus the name ገሽናሽም.
          THE REST IS HISTORY INVENTED UNDER ARKOBKOBAI (ዓርኮብኮባይ)..under the influence of Dimu Dimu/shaIbiyan tequila.

            As I belong to the geshnashim Clan (I’m a grandson of blata Qusmu) , I would like to ask you some points which I couldn’t understand. You wrote that the origin of Dimbezan and Mereta Sebene is from Dembia-Gondar. After that you added not the Dembia of Ethiopia but of the Singapur. Then you added again that of Dembia which is an Island and located between Singapur and Jugoslavia. My question is:
            1. Do you really mean there is another Dembia in Asia ?
            2. Why were you First telling about Dembia-Gonder, then you mention only Dembia (without Gondar)
            3. Between Jugoslavia (Europe)? or you mean there is also another Jugoslavia in Asia ? or may be you mean there is another Singapur in Europe?

    What Tadesse or the ones who are encouraging him are doing is not new to our country:
    If we see what happened during federation and immediately after and before that, we will find lots of parallels to what is happening today:
    1. Economic hardship due to decline of economic output in Eritrean cities combined with Ethiopian conspiracy -> The Economic hardship of today
    2. Exodus of Eritreans to Ethiopia -> Exodus of Eritreans of today
    3. Treatment of citizens by the Eritrean Federal Government ( the Prisons of Tedla Okbit were notorious) -> The harsh treatment of Eritreans by the current government
    4. The people in the Eritrean federal government start blaming each other for whatever went wrong -> G15 and the other Gs and the government
    5. The fault lines in the country start becoming increasingly visible. That is people start to group in regions (Hama bel, Hayka Matia, Seraye ) , religions (Rabita al Islamia) and ethnic groups in search of internal scape goats and enemies -> This more vivid in the Eritrea diaspora and the opposition, which is divided across all possible fault lines.
    6. Eritrean politicians start flocking to Adis-Abeba in search of favor and power -> Most of the exiled politicians have been to Ethiopia in the recent years
    7. The fall of the Eritrean Federal Government -> To date there is no Government in Eritrea to speak of
    8. The loss of Eritrea as an entity and the suffering of the last 50 or so years -> pray that we are not going that path again, even though all indicators are here already.

      The claim that 75% of the eritrean population was muslim is a quote from Dr. Bereket HabteSelassie, that Bereketab Habtemariam cited in his article from 2010 titled “a harmonized constitution…” But I have seen some Islamic parties still use it to rally support from the Arab world. Hafash.org had an article about a diplomatic mission to Algeria a couple of years back. Why this obsession with demographics?

      I’ll leave you with this segment.

      “In the 1940’s Muslim leaders broke away from the Mahber Feqer Hager (an association for a united political expression of the Eritrean people) and established the Moslem League. This, promoted sectarianism in Eritrea. At that time, the leaders of that organization did not publicly declare, as a final goal, the establishment of an Islamic state for such a statement would have meant the loss of solidarity from Eritrean Christians. The other factor deferring such a declaration was the fact that the different ethnic groups professing Islam had very little in common aside to religion. Hence, more time and work was necessary to create the semblance of a common character and history before embarking to the next stage. A writer in Awate.com by the name of Omar Jabir puts it very frankly. Defending the establishment of an Islamic body, he writes: “…there are social and cultural components in the Islamic body that cannot be ignored and left behind. Their participation and contribution in the building of the national unity—the unification of the Islamic body on proper foundation–would shorten the journey.”(‘Eritrean Islamists: Focus On The Root Not The Branches’, Omar Jabir – Awate.com, Aug 30, 2009).
      Contrary to this, the Moslem League’s objection to the British proposal of partition is seen as a credible, pro-independence stand. Definitely, it did contribute in holding Eritrea together, but the underlying causes may have been something else. First of all, partition was understood to mean a dividing line delivering the western lowlands to Sudan and uniting the rest of the country with Ethiopia (Bevin-Sforza Plan). This would automatically deliver to Ethiopia the eastern lowlands and pockets of Islamic communities in highland areas. This would have simply been a suicide for the Moslem League. In particular the Jeberti, who recently migrated from Ethiopia claiming religious discrimination there, would not have liked to go back to a similar situation. Besides, abandoning a major part of Eritrea to Ethiopia would have been contrary to the designs of Egypt (and Sudan) who, since the Khedive, had this vicious dream of controlling Eritrea; and, depending on the influences of external forces, this motive may have created the necessary psychological setting. The other reason is that at that time the leaders of the Moslem League were confident that their final aim of establishing an Islamic state would be realized once Eritrea becomes a free nation. This was assumable not only because of the massive religious and political support from places extending from Sudan to the Middle East and beyond, but also because the same leaders felt that Moslems composed the majority in Eritrea. Again, Venosa quotes Dr. Bereket Habte-Selassie (‘Conflict and Intervention in the Horn of Africa’ ) who confirms a statement delivered by Ibrahim Sultan at the United Nations:
      “Ibrahim Sultan, the Moslem League’s representative to the UN, was the first of the envoys to appear…Sultan’s argument attempted to place the emphasis of the fact that there was already a decidedly ‘Islamic character’ within Eritrea itself. Sultan contended that approximately 75 percent of all Eritreans were Muslims and that the remaining non-Muslim population, being a heterogeneous mix of predominantly Christian and animist sect with an equally diverse linguistic mixture, ‘shared no affinities to the Ethiopian people.’ In his defense of Eritrean autonomy, Sultan placed special focus on how any incorporation of Eritrea with Ethiopia would prove detrimental to Muslim inhabitants: having thus no ethnic, religious, historical, or economic bonds with Ethiopia, the Eritrean Muslims were strongly opposed to the annexation of Eritrea to Ethiopia.””
