It is clearly observed that it has become the right time for some circles (leaders, governments, parties, individual politicians…etc.) to exploit these unfortunate Paris incidents and the resulting circumstances, and use them for their own agendas. This way, some forces in our world are trying to associate their political opponents, or those who view things differently, with the ideology they thought the perpetrators have followed, and intimidate their adversaries into silence, or give a dreadful picture about them to have them excluded from the political scene. We should not allow this trend to creep in and stir up hate and division among our camp, which is already terribly polarized, badly fragmented, and hopelessly weak. We cannot afford to see more hate and division weakening us further.

Frankly speaking, it is in our DNA to be suspicious and cautious towards one another, on account of our diversity. With time, maturity, and development, I trust, we will install laws and gain solid experiences that could overcome and fix such natural prejudice, creating favourable conditions that would allow us to grow into a free and open society that teaches and learns tolerance. Until then, we will definitely continue making mistakes in handling diversity of opinions and learn through the harder way. That is a part of growing, as we always say in schools about children evolving into adulthood.

Nevertheless, we should not go as far as labeling one another without enough evidence or using cut and paste from the international media without scrutiny or conscience. We do not need to imitate, with full-stop and comma, whatever we see or read elsewhere. Our reality is totally different, and we need to focus on our burning issues, be wise, respect and be sensitive towards the feelings of one other. This is the way we could work together and emerge into the free world. I do not think it is exaggeration to say that we have more problems than any other people in the world, and it is not prudent to create some more. Let us move forward but cautiously. This is my modest message to all in this forum.

    Dear Brother Tamrat Tamrat,
you wrote “In this world there are two lords, one is God and the other is Money. Those who believe in Money are winning and they use religion to control the god-blievers.”
Remembering Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Ghandi, also the former Eritrean Gedli, even Napoleon and may others i don’t agree with that.

Let me leave you with this little storty (author unknown):

A frog was hopping around a farmyard, when it decided to investigate the barn. Being somewhat careless, and maybe a little too curious, he ended up falling into a pail half-filled with fresh milk.
As he swam about attempting to reach the top of the pail, he found that the sides of the pail were too high and steep to reach.
He tried to stretch his back legs to push off the bottom of the pail but found it too deep.
But this frog was determined not to give up, and he continued to struggle.
He kicked and squirmed and kicked and squirmed, until at last, all his churning about in the milk had turned the milk into a big hunk of butter.
The butter was now solid enough for him to climb onto and get out of the pail!
    “Never Give Up!”

    • Tamrat Tamrat January 13, 2015

I like the frog story verym much. What i wrote is from what i have observed. When i was little one prist used too much explanation in explaining the two lords of the world. I thought the prist was out of his mind in comparing Money With God. I thought it was almost a blasphemy. Now i know what he meant. And i see who is winning.

    Paradiso

Selam brother paradiso ,,,,even though i do not have any appetite to comment in this form as they repeatedly deleted my comments ,let me make an exception.
Your comment holds water, specially,,”Unless, Muslims change themselves and reform their religion to the 21 century, more Muslims will be killed by other Muslims ”
Yes you are right the majority victims of this barbaric acts are Muslims including the two brothers .And again you are right the only solution must come from within, when the Muslim elite wake up,discuss and come up with a solution.Otherwise the world will witness much more bigger tragedies. But what they are doing in the west,to control by police force,is a desperate attempt and futile.
What surprised me is the hypocrisy of the western media while they have been blaming the poor brothers (victims)thousand times, never to be heard a single criticism towards Saudi Arabia or Qatar the main financiers of the evil world wide.
I believe they may be some Muslim intellectuals who want to reform their religion but they do not have any chance at this time ,they will be eliminated. In order to create a favorable condition for the elite, countries like Saudi must be pressed ,but i do not think the west wants that.
Any way the solution is from within.

If those commentators who mix religion in our issues are Eritreans , I say , shamelessly you
are betraying your brothers / sisters / elders
and religious leaders who are condemned to suffer
and die . Issayas life time prolonged because of our stupid and arrogant attitude .
Eritreans are GOD loving peaceful people who live
in respect to each other . External forces try to
hijack our reach culture to create division which
the majority resist till this day .
    Foreign influenced sociopolitical convictions can
not have a place in our societies in homeland .
We will fight them to the end .

” So I choose Eritrea to remain a Christian majority country and the power to remain with Christians, because then all Muslims and Christians and other believers will be living in peace and harmony.”

    Fasil G/h

Brother, Eritrea is a small country that needs the harmony of its people to survive. When Higdef in nineties started to give Eritrean nationality card to Tigreyans many of whom have crossed the border looking for jobs, many did not see a problem coming with it. A few had even welcomed it thinking, it would have reduced Eritrean Muslims to a minority in the country (this was happeing while the refugees remained in Sudan and the Government had done everything to delay their return). What followed those initial years of mismanagement and exclusion is a recent history that every body has seen it happening: the Tigreyans took Eritrean id, become members of Higdef, some even joined the Army, got Government jobs, started businesses …etc.
Later, many of them left the country, because they felt unsafe during the war, but once in Tigray, they filed claims of property worth millions. A few who opted to remain in the country are strong supporters of Higdef. So, the only condition for Eritrea to became a Christian nation is when its Muslims are not there. That “Eritrea” will not look like the one we know today. It may not even be on the map. So, let’s stop devilish dreams and work for good of common man in Eritrea, irrespective of his/her religion.

    Fasil G/h,

You surprised us with your extreme fanaticism and sheer ignorance. Fanatic Muslims also present a puerile analysis exactly like yours. Both of you are equally dangerous for the society and are the enemies of the Eritrean people because each side thinks in order for them to live, others who are different from them should die. The solution is pretty simple, actually. I suggest that you go to your cousins in Tigray, and the fanatic Muslims go to Saudi Arabia. The advantage will be triple-fold: you will live with people with whom you would feel comfortable, the Muslim fanatics would also live in peace with people of their choice, while the rest of the Eritrean population (both Christians and Muslim) who believe in peaceful co-existence will live in full peace and harmony, setting a great model to be emulated by all African countries, once the cancer (Christian and Muslim fanatics) is cut out. That will be a win-win solution for all three parties:

    1. for the fanatic Christians like you
    2. for the fanatic Muslims who are as scum of history as yourself
    3. It will be a great sigh of relief for the rest of the Eritrean population, who believe in Eritrea in which citizenship will be the basis on which people should be treated; not religion or anything else

By presenting your unsavory poison and exposing yourself, you are not commenting, but doing a job in which you will never succeed. You cannot divide a people who lived in harmony for centuries on religious lines, no matter who have planted you here, and the power standing behind you to carry this job. Trust me; you cannot succeed in a conspiracy in which others before you have failed. Convey this message to your masters, and tell them that the scum of history cannot decide the destiny of the Eritrean people.

“I suggest that you go to your cousins in Tigray ..”

      Wadbahar

The writer is a notorious extremist living in UK. Fortunately, we don’t have many like him. I don’t know about his ancestry, but he is not a Tigrayan, he is as Simon K. He has some extreme views about Tigreyans too.
The guy is well educated, but his level of hatred of Eritrean Muslims and their religion is very rare among ordinary Eritreans, who are mostly very tolerant and accommodating.

        WadiHagher,

Thank you, brother, for the information about the maniac. But there were strong reasons, that made us (including you) react in the language he understands. It is not the sensitivity of the issue only, but the timing internationally and nationally he wanted to exploit by throwing his garbage load. A couple of things could be added here to show that the maniac is too distant from the objective realities in Eritrea and in the world at large. “Maskeen Hasher Nefsu Alalfade” (poor man; he put himself in unnecessary trap).

Islam and Christianity are our two eyes, as Eritreans. No Eritrean can live with one eye; that is what makes me Eritrean. We would tell anyone who hates any of the two religions to take one of his eyes out. We see the beauty of our country in that diversity and the rich culture it brings with it, more than in its physical geography. It is from there that our sense of pride stems. Eritrea may not be perfect, but many of us cannot think of another country where we would choose to live or where the balance will be so equitable. Anyone who does not accept diversity, which is natural in human society, has to re-evaluate his views or go away to his place of comfort and leave the people live in peace. That was my previous message to that maniac.

The perpetrators, who gunned down human beings in Paris (we strongly believe nobody deserves death whatsoever), resorted to lethal force because they thought they cannot co-exist with others who are different from them. Logic and reason dictate that they could have handled the diversity of views in a peaceful manner or accommodated the difference as something natural. Likewise, this maniac is saying Muslims and Christians cannot co-exist in Eritrea. In what way is he different from these terrorists? They are ideologically the same because religious fanaticism has the same content and its being Muslim or Christian is nothing but the form (the same wine in a different bottle). The only difference is that he could not get access to weapons to use against those who have different views from him, whereas the terrorists could get access to weapons. His only weapon was the keyboard through which he could preach hate, attempting to bring about an open conflict between different religious believers, spreading lies, and showing ignorance of the human relations of our two religions that have shared the same values for centuries and whose blood mixed in defense of the honor of the country; not in defense of any specific religion.

This maniac could have been ignored as a drunkard, or high on drugs, or uneducated (he could still have degrees or PhDs and be ignorant), or as someone who forgot to take his medications or even as plain stupid. But because he is playing with fire and at the most critical time of our history, nobody should let him continue or enjoy his game, though we are confident of our people who consider such campaigns as a bit too old. Again, a clear message should be conveyed to him and to his likes that any hatred against any religion is hatred against humanity (be it Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism …etc), and that he is in the same camp as the Paris terrorists with whom fanaticism unites him, though the form or the religion is different. I hope I am clear.

    Wadbahar

Brother, your message is very clear. To my understanding extremists are primarily motivated by politics and not religion. The recent sad events in Paris have a wider context that has to do mainly with integration problems of second or third generation French citizens of North African origin. Religion is just one element of a number of complex issues, such as race, culture, unemployment ..etc. Besides, it’s unfortunate that the French version of secularism does not respect religious diversity of all the groups in the country. For instance if you are a French Jew the authorities have no problem if you consider yourself an Israeli, work for them, serve in IDF when they go to war against Palestinians in Gaza, and when you die in France, you ask to be buried in Jerusalem. The number of Jews died in Holocaust cannot be questioned (6 million) and that is protected by law, anything you say about Jews is Anti-Semitism and punishable by law.
For North Africans whose grand fathers came to fight WWII on French territories, work in coal mines when Algeria was considered a French territory, the story is different, even when their religion is insulted they law has no provision to protect them. They are mostly marginalized, because the integration failed, and now some people make money by insulting them on daily basis on newspapers. Despite all that killing people is a crime. Problems should be solved by taking religion out of all the problems the country is facing, because religion per se is not the problem and adding to politics makes it a deadly mixture. The problems are purely political and as such need political solutions.
That said, coming to our issues, our country and people are safe only if we stop bringing problems that we see elsewhere to our country. We have very peace loving communities who have lived side by side for centuries under the most repressive regimes and war and yet remain calm. The problems we are facing are political, our common enemy is Higdef and no one else.
