The past decade has seen a sharp rise in terrorism and extremism in Africa too. Three main groups readily come to mind in Africa: al-Shabaab operating from Somalia, Boko Haram from Nigeria, and al-Qaeda menacing the Sahel and Maghreb countries of the northwest Africa. These extreme backward groups are sparking outrage all over the world, the issue of terrorism has ceased to be local.
Once upon a time, the only “terrorists” in Africa, if you believed British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and American President Ronald Reagan, came in the shape of Nelson Mandela, Robert Mugabe, Samora Machel, Sam Nujoma and the other freedom fighters and liberation movements then fighting to free their countries from white minority rule. Not any more, Now the terrain has totally changed all over the world.
One has to admit that religion, and in this case Islamic fundamentalism, has been a major pull factor on which terrorism has ridden to menace Africa and the rest of the world. Some experts have traced the increasing terrorism threat in Africa and the West to global developments and the call many years ago by Osman bin Laden, the then spiritual leader of al-Qaeda, to Muslims in Africa and the Middle-East to rise up in rebellion against the West. If the continent is to defeat the terrorists threatening the lives of its citizens, then the continent has to “negotiate with terrorists” in secrets using intermediaries. Also addressing legitimate grievances have been some of the solutions others elsewhere have used to resolve their terrorism problems.

In this world there are two lords, one is God and the other is Money. Those who believe in Money are winning and they use religion to control the god-blievers.

Awate.com is a potential threat to the security and stability of future Eritrean democracy that we, all justice seekers need to be aware of. Awate.come is becoming radicalised in its political and ideological position. Its editorial position have always shifted from the national issue to political Islam, and we must confront it before it is too late. We are not going to afford an such outdated backward sentiment which only benefits those who believe in barbaric policy of Islamic caliphate. In my view this a very dangerous move, it doesn’t have any positive contribution toward the process of peace and justice in Eritrea. The lunatic regime of Issais and his gangs are always determined to destroy our religious and cultural integrity, and I am afraid they will win if we continue to ignore this absurdity and madness that is coming out of Awate. com.

Pfdj supporters like michael love to accuse awate.com as islalamic. Tell us why u think the website is as u stated? Because the owners r islam? By the way why is assenna not reporting the latest breaking news by arbi harnet..according to the news there was shooting in the heart of asmara.

I visit Awate to read and learn from different ideas and arguments of it’s participants . Many
of them from different background seem informed & knowledgeable about Eritrean politics .
To accuse them with radicalism looks suspicious
motives to bring mistrust among opposition . Do
not forget every Deleyti Fithi member have favorite
website which awate.com belongs to be one of them .

For some people like you [nowadays a Higdefite minority], an Eritrean Muslim is not allowed to express a different opinion with which you don’t agree.
That is why there is a lot mistrust in the opposition camp, which is not moving forward. Tell me who gains or loses from this situation ?, obviously no one.
In a country where you have diverse communities, it’s very natural to have people who express views on issues that concerns of their communities.

Michael Dengola ekka you don’t know what you are talking about. How an earth is Awate radicalized. The problem of you and your like is you can’t accept the reality. Name calling has become a fashion for pfdj junta. Awate like Assenna and others are the sources of truth and plate form for conversations. So please wake up and see the reality.

    Michael T.mariam,
U sound to be an Isaias agent in disguise. U must be one of those hired by isaias’ intelligence service specially directed to sow mistrust, discord and disorientation among the diaspora Eritreans aspiring and striving for freedom and the rule of law in our country. No one is anymore stupid not to understand the real intentions of the wolves in sheep’s hide.
Awate.com is a patriotic Eritrean website where all eritreans freely express their views and contribute commentaries. One of the contributors is Dr. Berekhet.
Go back to isaias, Ato Michael, and tell the tyrant no one would be fooled by his trashy propaganda.

You don’t seem to be familiar with the website you are defending for . Have you read this ariticle which was published by one of its editors back in summer 2014. http://awate.com/isis-israel-gunay-and-gedli-defamers/. Once you have read this article, you might be able to manage to understand that awate does not reflect the views of millions of Eritreans at home and diaspora, it is simply serving the fundamental ideology of political islam which is totally inappropriate to our values.

Assenna. is much much better than all websites combined.

With regard to your stupid accusation about of my support of pfdj, I don’t have waste my time to explain you that you are wrong. You are such a scam bang narrow mined trash fellow, you cant even understand my position toward pfdj from the view I have just said previously.

Religion and politics collide if we couldn’t
separate them because faith is spiritual but
        ideology is merely theory .
In case of France tragedy , violence is evil
and destructive . Hate mongers come with various
colors , races and religions .
        Paradiso
Do not blame Moslem civilian societies not to speak up like western countries . The same way
we are frustrated from our people silence to our
own tragedies . In one month hundreds of Moslems have been killed in Nigeria , Pakistan , Iraq ,
Syria by extremists in the name of Islam .
I object to politicize sad events but the truth
is world shed tears when comes to the haves and
        powerful places .
P.M. Netanyahu flew to Paris to show solidarity
for his people and to take the dead bodies to
Israel . We neglected hundreds of poor souls dead
bodies in Sinai and Italy .
Now prove me the courage if we have any before we
talk about others . Better admit our shameful act
        and zip halewlew lokota .

  • merhawit January 11, 2015

The Paris murderers and the Isaias grouping are at the end of the day an axis of evil – enemies of freedom vainly attempting to scowl free expression to silence.

  • Ghebrehans T. January 11, 2015

    Michael T/mariam,
Well said about Awate.com. No one has a right to impose on the Eritrean people who they should consider their heroes and fathers of the Eritrean nation. Yet, the Awate Team has elevated itself arrogantly to the position and power of an autocrat in the internet and is foolishly ostracizing Eritreans who don’t consider certain personalities (like Idris Awate) as their heroes. For the record, I don’t consider anyone who is or was in the leadership of the ELF and the EPLF as my hero or father figure of Eritrea. Why? There is nothing to show for it. When it comes to Eritrea, my only heroes are the Eritrean people, Eritrean citizens who gave their blood and their lives for as of yet unrealized liberal democratic Eritrean state….. these honourable personages include my own biological brothers and cousins and my lifelong friends.
Some and that includes many African Americans don’t consider Washington, Jefferson, and Madison as heroes and fathers of the USA. To speak for myself, I admire these people for their accomplishments but they are not my heroes either. Why? They were hypocrites. They fought for liberty and yet denied liberty for black Americans.

This is a very important current affairs discussion in a web site that had been lately deleting critical, true and honest opinions.

What is wrong with Islam? More Muslims are killing other Muslims in the name religion and the majority – 95% – convenience Muslims are afraid to speak up. This is true in Somalia, Yemen, Libya, Sudan, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Algeria, Chad, Nigeria, Mali, Tajikistan … (surprised: all are muslim nations) but the majority of Muslims are afraid to speak up, or, are they tacitly supporting them?

Unless, Muslims change themselves and reform their religion to the 21 century, more Muslims will be killed by other Muslims and the the outnumbered minorities among Muslims such as Zaidis, Christians, Jews, atheists, Zorastorians … will suffer because of the out dated interpretation of this religion.

Ask your self, why are the majority Catholics in north and South America not killing each other in the name of religion? Or, the the billion and half Chinese Buddists and atheists, or the christains of Europe in the name of religion as they did in the dark ages/ Which religion in this planet is in the dark savage ages now but its coreligionists are sleeping or living in hypocrisy denying the everyday suicides and massacres in the name of Islam, be it Nigeria, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Iraq … as we speak?

Who will forget the half a million Muslim Darfur genocide who were burned and killed in the name of Islam in Sudan, and the whole Islamic world was too coward to speak up.

  • AHMED SALEH !!! January 11, 2015

    Paradiso
You said ” why Moslems do not speak up or do they
    support them technically ” ? .
    Fair enough . My question to you ;
” Why our people do not speak up when their own
young generation slaughtered by nomad Arabs or
do they support them technically ” ? .
To find cowardice look at the mirror .

  • WediHagher January 11, 2015

“Unless, Muslims change themselves and reform their religion to the 21 century, more Muslims will be killed by other Muslims ”

    Paradiso aka Teclay

Are you accusing Muslims ?, what do you means by “change themselves” ?
Please have some decency, if you are left with some.
