I am so happy for you that Almighty God saved your life and you became a living witness to the horrible and tragic accident that befallen our young men and women. I am so sorry that you lost your dearest brother. Our family lost one member from the same boat you encountered this horrible experience. I read your article with heavy heart. I don’t know what to say or to do.
All I can say is that I wish you the best of luck; persevere and be strong.
I can’t help but think that why is this happening this tragedy to us? Oh, dear Almighty God help us. May the one and only one Almighty God help our beloved people and our dear nation, Eritrea, Amen.
I really don’t know what to say; this is too much.
Where I came from men do not cry but as I read your heartbreaking narrative I cried. Tears streamed down my cheeks burdened with a heavy heart. If there is any consolation at all, you’ve survived to relate your painful story with the rest of us so that, we honour and pray for those who have passed including your brave younger brother and posterity can learn about the darkest era our beloved nation is going through. May the Almighty God give you all the strength you need as you look forward to a new life with a sense of a renewed hope and optimism. I wish you all the best.
I am not the type who cries easily, but reading your minute by minute account of what went on that tragic morning of October 3rd on the shores of Lampedusa brought tears to my eyes. Although we have known that some 368 of our compatriots perished that morning, reading it from someone who miraculously made it alive made it so tangible, so concrete.
I also want to express to you my deepest condolences of your younger brother, Hermon drowning that morning. The fact that you made it alive should give some consolation to your family, thanks God!
By the way, you are a very talented writer; as a tribute to your brother and the others that perished that fateful morning, I hope you write a book in the near future about the entire ordeal.
Dear Mesfin God bless you!
And all who perish in Lambadusa may their life rest in peace!
and so
We have to make it a film! And we will remember for ever the evil PIA in our country .
Brother Mesfin
After reading your story I felt that world is the picture of hell , full of men like all
us who love God and yet hate him from being prisoners of our own selfishness . I try to
stay strong from breaking my heart . But like Father Athanasius Ghebreab put it , I also
share the felling of self-guilt consciousness as responsible Eritrean to ask for forgiveness .
Forgive us brothers/sisters for remaining silent .
Forgive us for acting like cheer leaders .
Forgive us for not standing by you to defend you right .
Forgive us for pretending not to hear your cries from prisons , oppression , refugee camps ,
Sinai Sudan Libya deserts , crossing the sea and the sufferings through out the country .
Forgive us for the sin to offer our young as a sacrifice on the ulterior of one man worship .
Hope God shed the light to guide us for the only way out from the mess we created .
My prayer goes to the living loved one family members and for the dead rest in peace .
I can’t stop crying. It’s heart broken story. I want tell that to stay strong for your brother. I can’t imagine seeing my brother die or sister, It’s hard more than hard, but you here alive cuz you meant to be here. You have to let the pain go because It’s going kill you more. let just pry god to put them peace and your brother. I hope you write a book or even movie about this in future. Especially for those who say “they left their country cuz Tsegibom” they need to see this, they need to feel the pain that you all have or going through, they need to know that no one choose to die. They need to know that those young youth deserve better life just like them. Bless you and god give you streath. Keeping writing you are amazing writer, your description ,details is great.
