We pray for you all so God may give the maturity and the wisdom to understand the complexities of NATIONAL AGENDA, and you come out this assembly victorious.
Victory for the Eritrean people is no less than THE FORMATION OF UNITED NATIONAL FRONT in all aspects. Speaking with one voice, facing to one direction.
All eyes are focused on you, Waela compatriots. Do not forget Eritreans are predominantly Christians and Muslims. This fact should be reflected in action.

The section on “Gedim Tegadelti” does not sound right to the layman’s ear.

Simple observation: out of the 25 above, I counted 5 Christian names. Not matter what you do in practice YOU NEED TO ALSO APPEAR TO REPRESENT ALL THE COLOURS IN THE NATION. Try to avoid giving propaganda ammunition to the PFDJ.

    All the best

    • ahmed saleh November 24, 2011

      Salamawi, with all respect.
Is it necessary to judge a person because his name. If they come from different organizations with different ideas,
what is count most I think is their integrity. If you represent me or if I represent you, it is because only we have common believes, that means we trust each other, that is all. I think we need a little time to have a trust each other.
Because they play is us for the last 100 years on our intelligence.

      • Selamawi November 24, 2011

        Selam Ahmed Saleh,
I reciprocate your ‘with all due respect’ and here is my sincere response to your comment. In my experience, most of the time the accusation I have been hearing in the last decade has been that the dictatorship in Asmara is Tigrigna/Christian dominated… Although many of us Christians believe that this regime is anti religion, anti Christian/Islam per se, anti all forms of institutions (including the family unit, the awrajas the woredas…) many Moslims have been accusing us of being part of this regime. I have felt powerless to make any changes to what the PFDJ has been doing to the Nation – again including the issue of proportional representation.
        Please follow to the paragraph.

        Thanks

          Continued
Ahmed, I did not accuse the Waela people of deliberate marginalization of their Christian compatriots. I just tried to politely remind them that in politics PERCEPTION does matter. I simply did not want to ask the obvious question: we have 5 Christians out of 27 individuals (later it came to 2 out of 7) is it because there are no enough Christian participants who are capable…? Or the Mulem participants voted along religious lines? You know the PFDJ will exploit this…
I want this Waela to succeed, and I suggest it reflect the composition of the nation. I beg you to join me and expect the Waela people to show fair representation here and now. Do not wait for tomorrow my beloved compatriot. When I expressed my dissatisfaction with PFDJ administration in the 90s often times people asked for patience. They said the PFDJ deserved to be given time (some still do!). Well, need I elaborate more? It is obvious.

    • Tsahaye November 24, 2011

      Selamawi,

I see some contradictions in your comment. You don’t seem to be happy with the composition of the elected body as it shows a big discrepancy in its composition between Christians and Muslims, but then you come around and offer your blessing to it. If you are not aware of Eritrea’s historical problem, it is time you wake up and do a serious sole searching. Eritrea’s main problem has always been the imbalance of power between the two main religious sects. People who are given power have been tampering with that delicate harmonic cord of Eritrean religious make up in order to create division and chaos. As a result, we had spent 10 years trying to stay together or go our separate way during the 1940’s, we spent 30 years trying to gain our independence, and we have spent 20 years and counting trying to establish a representative governance. We cannot hide our problem anymore: our problem is the absence of fair representation in power and in other opportunities that have kept us fractured and divided not to accomplish anything. We should not let the fanatical extremists to have the luxury of owning our destiny. So if you have a heart for the good of Eritrea, be courageous to reject the unfair representation of the so called secretariat.

        TSEHAYE
I agree with some of your points. But I disagree on the issue of moslems and christians. Couldn’t
me, you and Selamawi be in one progressive ideoligical party to fight for the good of our people’s
cause like our for fathers in RABITA and MAHBER SHEWATE. Can’t we learn from our history.

      • Selamawi November 24, 2011

        Hello Tsahaye,
I thought the ‘selamawi’ approach of ‘nlebam afeememelu abey keysihto….” was enough. The Waela is at its inception, and I feel that we rather support them and put our counteractive criticism for the sake of the Eritrean people.

If the Waela did not make appropriate shift of paradigm or the simply in the way it operates then it is doomed to fail. I am still recovering from what I have learn about Daniel Tewelde…the procedures and processes and the attitudes…

Without going remotely back in history, I do recall, with sadness that is, how the EPDM came out of its founding congress in Khartoum… I think it is public knowledge that the main issues was that participants were predominantly of the Moslim religion and they tended to vote along the religious lines. Remember how Ambassadors Abdella Adem and Adhanom Ghebremariam separated …There were allegations that the issue of religion played a negative role in the preparatory gatherings…
In short: there is no denying that there are issues, but one hopes that we will overcome this and rise up to the challenges …. Let me hope, and hope that the Waela will emerge with some or major progress towards addressing the divisions (perceived or real).
Please read my response to Ahmed Saleh above. Thanks

        • Tsahaye November 24, 2011

          Selamawi,

I have read your response to Ahmed Saleh. Yes, you want the waela to succeed, but you are not tough enough to stand against its obvious failures. Let me use the old Tigrigna adage, “haba’e quslus, haba’e fewsu.” What we are witnessing right now is in fact a repeat of the experience of Jebha in the sixties and seventies. And truly, those who seem to forget the ugly part of Eritrea’s history are happily repeating it. If you think this is just a temporary set up in the struggle for democracy, you are making a cardinal error in your judgment. Those who are trying to hijack the process are those who have no interest of a harmonious Eritrea. If you don’t stop them now when they are sprouting, it would be a futile exercise to try to convince them to share power when they have sent their roots deep down into the ground. Think twice.

          • Selamawi November 24, 2011

            Tsehaye ,

I think we need to cool down a little bit. Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt and see how the Waela concludes. In spite of its shortcomings (e.g. the Daniel Tewelde saga, “constitution? so far we do not seem to see fair representation reflective our diversity) it might pave the way to achieve something. For the time being I will limit myself to giving constructive criticism as opposed to outright condemnation.

Afterwords we will be able to evaluate the whole thing and take our stance/s.

At any rate the change that we look for will only come about with full participation of the “SIMERRR!!!” Camp. I do not expect the Waela to solve all our problems but let them gather, show their capabilities…then I hope we can go with them beyond them! Opposing one another will not take us anywhere. Debating will. And keep debating my compatriot!

            Thanks

    • Yonas November 24, 2011

I totally agree with you Brother, I hope our Brothers and sisters delegates be it Muslims or Christians give priority to saving Eritrean people and work for fair representation in the upcoming vote for the transitional leadership. My message to our Delegates is to remove the old mentality of separateness, for this week remove your religion your ethnic background all your beliefs. Eritrea and it’s people should be on your mind, Remember your youth in the Sinai Desert (Ezi wun YihalF) እዚውን ይሓልፍ።

“When this delusion of utter separateness underlies and governs whatever I think, say, and do, what kind of world do I create?”
      ― Eckhart Tolle

        Yonus
What you said is deep, man. THANKS

      • Mr.T November 24, 2011

I guess you are either out of this planet or you are far ahead of your time. But I doubt it. If this is your first time of entering into the arena of Eritrean politics, you have a lot of work to do. Please don’t try to cheat yourself or try to insult our intelligence. You know what you are saying really does not make sense because that it not reflect the Eritrean experience. Now you cannot suddenly get a cow out of a chicken.

  • abe November 24, 2011

    Here you have it,
25 monkies tring to meddle with the eritrean fabrics..Good luck house-niggers of the ethno-facsists of
Aby Tigray.. Rest assured, we Eritrean will not allow your ill-intension to progress evne an inch

    Down withe house-niggers of Woyanes

    • ahmed saleh November 24, 2011

I don not understand the arrogance and stupidity, why are you offended. Nobody mention you or no one give a sh…
about you. We are against those authoritarians who take control over our people. You are house nigger who
kiss you master ass than to free you niggers brothers in slavery of HGDFD system. STAY FREE OR DIE, be a man.

    • Kibrom T. November 24, 2011

      abe,

With all honesty, can you reflect on yourself for one minute? With your disgraceful foul language, an agry response, and to cap it all, misspelling all over, do you really believe there is any credibility to what you say? You are an idiot, man! The least you can do is learn from Thahaye HOW TO WRITE since you both agree on other things.

      Thahaye,

Your comment above seems to be heart-felt and it has good points. We have that problem alright. It cannot be denied. But unless we cut it somewhere and try to be one people, we will suffer for decades. And Tsahaye, rejecting it only is way short of resolving it. I am sure you read Ahmed’s postings here. When we all come back to our senses and Eritrea is “Ertra” as we called it when I was growing up, we will find out tha Ahmed is right.

  • HGDF November 24, 2011

Very inclusive and nice composition unlike HGDF which is composed of only “Highlanders”. I hope Ali Salim is very satisfied now.

  • thomas November 24, 2011

I was hopping this time it will work but from what I see is very bad news.
Personally I don’t mind who is elected who is not if a Muslim or Christian but for most Christians they are not going to accept it because over 20 Muslims and less than 7 Christians I don’t think it is right.
This is the final but the picture looks bad.

    • ahmed saleh November 24, 2011

      Thomas
It looks our Moslem and christian issue becomes like black and white issue, that is what you heading for. Think
twice before you say something, we are moslems and christians in this forum. Our purpose is to get rid all the evils, from whatever religion they come from. WITH RESPECT to you.

      • ahmed saleh November 24, 2011

        Thomas
Let say me and you are members of one organizations. You are intellect, honest and principled
person, do you think I would choose a Moslem guy ahead of you. these people are selected by
the members by their organizations, we have to give them chance before we judge them.

  • Tsahaye November 24, 2011

Now think about the fair inclusiveness of the meeting. The dark side is just appearing and there is more to come in the near future. How is it possible that the secretariat is composed of 21 Muslims out of 27 individuals? 78% to be exact. No wonder Dr. Mohammed Keir has not boycotted the meeting or has not registered a complaint yet. Wait until the great and trusted website, meskerem.net, publishes the names and place of origin of each participant. Elected officials reflect their constituents and there is no doubt that there are far fewer Tigrigna Christians than their Muslim compatriots at the meeting. I would be surprised even if their number is 25% of the so-called 600 attendees. In the last “waela”, there were barely about 30% of them Tigrigrigan speakers (excluding the Jeberties), and this time around, the fanatical extremists who consider Eritrea as an Islamic state are already declaring to having the upper hand.

    • ahmed saleh November 24, 2011

      Tsehaye
I read the first sentence of your post then stop to respond. If you want help us, why don’t you to the HGDFwian
website and debate as brave principled intellectual to teach them . Guys, Leave us alone GO, GO GO ……….!

    • Elssa Yohanes November 24, 2011

Waw!!!! you called Meskerem (Haddas Eritra) a great and trusted website . It shows from where you are. By the way how was your king’s lecture in New York? lool
As to the religion, if all of them (100%) were Christians or Muslims it doesn’t make a difference what matters is their dedication for freedom.
We know and expect HEGIGEDEFS will try to say too many things on this issue but you will reach no where.

  • Awasa November 24, 2011

Is it realy serious? Where are the highlanders/christians? We had such plays in the Kindergarden age.

    Not for good!

    • ahmed saleh November 24, 2011

      Awasa
Now you care about highlanders when your MASTER PA is in danger, where were you, when highlanders
were screaming for help the last 20 years for protection from your LION OF NAKFA.

  • Dawit November 24, 2011

Only 18% Christians are represented, if the names are indications of their religious affiliation. Are we going back to the old ways of doing politics: GEBHA vs SHAEBIA. In a country where Christian and Muslims are equal in number, I would expect to see more Christians represented in EDA. Besides, the majority , as far as I am concerned, of Eritreans who are taking the blunt of the suffering due to HGDF are Christian highlanders.

    • Elssa Yohanes November 24, 2011

      Dear Dawit
Please forgate about No. of Christians and Muslims. We have to remember that they are elected democraticaly. What we want is their attitude. And I’m quite sure that they will do a good job. As to Abe’s comment it is not they who are nigger because they are are going to fight for freedom. It is you who is living in a nigger way of life.
      God will be with Eritrea.

    • ahmed saleh November 24, 2011

      Dawit
Do not worry , I promise you we are on them disregarding their religion. What we care is our people, and we will keep fighting . keep it up and lets organized to have influence on the issue of our country.

    • mizan November 24, 2011

Completley uninteresting to me how the container looks like provided that the content meets the requirement.

      • Dawit November 24, 2011

        Mizan,

What makes it very interesting is the fact that contents in this regard can change. The content is not some thing rigid which is not influenced by the environment i.e. tradition, culture, polities and most of all religion.

You are not talking here about Christmas gifts with their alluring gift wraps to hide the content. What you see is what you get after opening the gift. It does not work with politicians. They are humans; they will change…

  • Kulu November 24, 2011

What was the criteria for electing the secretariat? Genuine change seekers of Christians and Muslims could be discouraged with the proportion of representation, Christian vs Muslim. Probably if the election was along ethnic lines, that is another story and it is safe to keep silent until we hear from others on the election procedures. Anyhow, it seems that this tactic is not good to give the regime a death blow.

  • Marosso November 24, 2011

    Selam N hizbi Eritrea
I have long expected this coz we tried for the last 50years and fail let tried our Moslim bros lead us as far as i know they trust worthy and serious honest so let us try them am sure they will lead us fair and balanced struggle, let not look at names let us work as eritreans beside we all are eritrean. some comments which are posted show an eritreanizm they just look at names and judge. wake up my ppl we had lead them for the last 100years what had we accomplish DICTATORS . Remember: they started the straggle when our Grant parent chose Andinet with ethio and Edri Awete started struggle am very happy as eritrean not as christian for successes of WaEla and I wish them to succeed and get raid of this junta killer higdef.

    • Dawit November 24, 2011

There was nothing wrong with your and my grand parents choosing “andinet” over separation. They , however, were and still are vilified for exercising the right to choose. They may have had valid reasons for advocating “andinet”. Story told about “andinet” by those who doggedly wanted separation was biased at best and self serving at worst. All the literature that came out of PFDJ , ELF, and EPLF was and still is about glamorizing the struggle for independence at the expense of the bad and the ugly story that was part and parcel of the whole story.
