UN human rights expert to meet Eritrean diaspora in Germany and Switzerland
GENEVA (13 March 2014) – The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Eritrea, Sheila B. Keetharuth, will undertake an official visit to Germany and Switzerland from 17 to 28 March 2014 to collect first-hand information from Eritrean refugees and migrants on the human rights situation in Eritrea.
Since her appointment in November 2012, the Special Rapporteur has made several requests to visit Eritrea, which have so far not been granted. She has repeatedly urged the Eritrean authorities to collaborate with her mandate with a view to addressing its human rights challenges.
“Due to lack of access to Eritrea, I have been engaging with Eritrean refugees and migrants outside of their home country, and all others concerned by human rights in Eritrea, including those who consider themselves to be victims of alleged human rights violations, human rights defenders and other civil society actors,” Ms. Keetharuth said.
During her mission, the Special Rapporteur will interview Eritrean refugees and migrants about the situation of human rights in Eritrea to corroborate allegations of widespread and systematic violations of human rights in Eritrea contained in reports she has received from a variety of interlocutors.
The Special Rapporteur expressed her appreciation that Germany and Switzerland have agreed to provide her with access to interview the Eritrean refugees and migrants residing in those two countries.
The result of her findings, which will be strictly limited to the situation inside Eritrea, will be reflected in her second report to the Human Rights Council in June 2014.
Sheila B. Keetharuth was appointed as the Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Eritrea during the 21st Session of the UN Human Rights Council in September 2012. She took her functions on 1 November 2012. As Special Rapporteur, she is independent from any government or organization and serves in her individual capacity. A lawyer from Mauritius, she has extensive experience in monitoring and documenting human rights violations, advocacy, training and litigation in human rights in Africa.

This is a good chance for the victims who live in Switzerland, Germany and other part of Europe to make their voice heard. The mass killing, the rape, the torture, the human trafficking, the organ harvesting need to be well documented and well prepared in organized way so she will get the full information. I hope the individuals will be brought to international criminal court in the Hague She has to put the ugly higdef criminals face and names in the wanted list of the international Criminal court. Justice should do be brought to each of the higdef criminals. Let they not sleep in peace from now. Yemane Monkey can be detained on arrival at the Airport once the report is finalized. This woman is insane. Refugees who just left their country, for economic reasons and are dying to get residency permits will tell her exactly what she wants to hear. That´s obvious, isn´t it? Why not ask ALL eritreans in the diaspora?

please consider that english to me (and surely to many others) is one of several foreign language. it is a language we learned at school and didn’t use in practice very much.
therefore my feel for language is “developable” an can sometimes lead to misunderstandings. but i always clear it as possible…

I can never undertstand what she aims at all! She has already the results of her findings, which are strictly limited to the situation inside Eritrea. What is she going to do with facts, if especially Isayas=UN=USA=EU=…?
Why doesn’t she collect facts or findings, which are also limited to the situation outside Eritrea, like SINAI-Guantanamo,…etc?
This woman is better advised to stop soon the senseless, conspired und useless job/politics she is doing upon the victim Eritrean people.
Note that I have never been the friend of dictators, just the opposite!

UN & Co have watched the whole last years the cruel activities upon Eritrean (NOT African!!!!)refugees all over the world. Now they want to look like as if they care about refugees. Just too late and too ignorant to fool logical thinking people like the Eritreans! The woman can disapear with her mouthpieces like many Eritrean websites. We rely only on our almighty GOD, people and governments have betrayed the Eritrean people in favour of the western strateries/needs.

Come down! crimes of higdef cannot be finished , documented , filed in weeks or Months. These ugly people were planning and committing crimes against Eritreans from the day one they came to Sahel mountain. Do you think so easy and simple to bring cases to UN or to Hague? The atrocities, killing, rape and selling human organs never been so intensively carried out in the world the way Higdef is doing. The crime can be compared to the Holocaust and Genocide in Rwanda so give the woman more time and evidence to do her fantastic job she has been doing from the beginning. If you can help if not just read the crime of higdef in every site of the internet. Even one man crime can take so long in court system of the free world. It is not Kangaroo court of Higdef you just send people without evidence.

first of all, I thank you for your constructive argumentation. I want to let you also know, that I hate HIGDEF/Mendef like a devil. As a victim of these junta in our mother land, you can imagine how sensitive I am, only when I think of the HIGDEF-Guantanamo in Sinai, a place where many [European] tourists still enjoy their life while victim Eritrean are slaughtered some meters away in the near for the suply of organ harvesting.
The most sad thing is that the Jews state collaborates with Higdef albeit their shocking experience with Hitler and the Holocaust. The tortures and killings upon our our youth take place near the bourder to I S R A E L !!!
The western countries tolerate the crimes since the days of SAHEL to the mountains of SINAI – this raises questions upon questions.

Keetharuth) to meet Eritreans to collect first-hand information from Eritrean refugees and migrants who left Eritrea recently, on the human rights situation in Eritrea that is exactly should be done to get the real situation in Eritrea. Because if she tried to collect those information from any Eritrean who even been a citizen of other countries or had been living for a long time in diaspora, they don’t know how hard is living in the present Eritrea. Hoping those Eritrean to explain the misery under those criminal group in power with the possible expressive words.

I see this close to being useless because I have seen the same news from this UN Human Rights group but I don’t see any action taken. What is the use of providing a report (beside wasting resources) if you you can’t apply it?
BTW, Yemane Monkey was listed on the subject related to somalia’s trouble makers group (this is on Obama’s list BTW) but he was roaming around NY and Washington DC, few times. I feel like this was done to confuse the Eritrean people. Nothing more.

This would also increase the credibility of her endeavours.
