Development and management of educated citizens is imperative in guiding a nation in a right development direction. Our forefathers new the importance of education and sending their young child into school has been given a top priority. A famous proverb in Eritrean society ‘Zeytemahre Ne’ydhin Zeytewekre Ne’yetihn’ – shows how education is valued in the society. A gracious wisdom preserved for ages. Currently this positive social understanding of education seems to be turning around and assuming a new ungrateful course.

Reporters Without Borders wrote today, the third anniversary of Eritrean journalist Fessehaye “Joshua” Yohannes’ death in detention, to Manfred Nowak, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on torture and  other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, asking him to do everything possible to obtain an improvement in the conditions of journalists imprisoned in Eritrea.

Sanctions are as hard to impose as they are to receive them. The UN often agonizes before punishing one of its own members even when it is a deserving regime like Eritrea. Atlanta, Georgia (NIM) December 5, 2009 –  Reliable sources in Eritrea have recently apprised Nehemiah International Ministry (NIM), that thirty women from Faith Mission have been jailed while they were conducting worship service in arcane on December 5, 2009 at about 4PM local time. Faith Mission is one of the banned churches in Eritrea, and it has been in inexistence since 1950. Members of NIM are deeply disturbed by the news coming from Eritrea.

On the morning of 30 November 2009, the Working Group on the UPR examined the situation of human rights in Eritrea.
