Former Eritrean Minister urges President Isaias Afewerki to summon the Eritrean National Assembly promptly and leave the office which he held for 27 years without being elected.

Former Finance Minister Mr. Berhane Abrehe, in a widely shared audio message from Asmara, on September 6, 2018, called the Eritrean president to stop the rushed diplomatic undertakings which lack transparency and are being concluded without the National Assembly’s endorsement.

Mr. Abrehe in his address to the president said:

“Since it is your responsibility, you need to call the members of the Eritrean Assembly for a meeting urgently. There are various important issues that need to be taken care of. That is the reason you need to conduct a meeting of National Eritrean Assembly now. You absolutely have no reason to hide.”

In addition, he says:

“The Eritrean National Assembly in its meeting will make important decisions,” which he goes on to sum up in three points, that include voting in a new chair-person and replacing the president in a peaceful, lawful and civilized manner as well as paving the way for immediate national elections.

Likewise, the former Finance Minister invites President Isaias to face him in a televised debate which he proposes to focus on issues related to political, economic, social and cultural aspects of the nation.

Mr. Berhane Abrehe lives in Eritrea. He has been at odds with the president ever since he demanded accountability while he was head of the Ministry of Finance.  He has recently published a book outside Eritrea where dissent is punishable with incarceration or even death.

Mr Berhane Abrehe’s courage in challenging the dictatorship in Eritrea is being widely admired by the Eritrean people. His move has even dominated the recent meeting of the three Horn of Africa leaders in Asmara.

This is a message from true Eritrean who never kneel dawn. Many others in side Eritrea also starting to dug in
incase wrong outcome to finish.isayas once and for all. Indeed, my observation Berhane is not alone. However, let and see what will happen soon but we should not forget our part. .

Tell us then in your own confused language what your “real” part would be apart from rhetoric?

      • Michael Tesfamariam September 8, 2018

After having served one of the most lunatic regimes in the world for decades Mr. Berhane is now trying to atone his past iniquities by writing a book which nobody is interested to read. Sorry, it will not work. He had plenty of opportunities to leave or do something significant against the regime but he chose to stay and act against the will of his own people for years, but after he realised that it was impossible for him to escape from the hands of his former colleagues, he chose to write a book that will eventually serve him as suicide pills. There is one popular Amhara’s quotation which perhaps reflects his actions: “Yemote Ahya jib Alferam”, This man is merely dead, and has no option other than trying to say a couple of nice things that anyone would say before they die, and probably he would like to be counted as hero like the G-11 whom he had refused to associate himself with almost 20 years ago. Please let’s not defile and lower the bar for our real hereosim just because this man said bad things about Issais. His motivation to rebuke his former boss is well calculated and driven solely by greed and selfishness. Mr Berhane is entitled to write or say whatever he likes but he cannot change our perceptions of him as one of the most useful tool to the killing machine in Eritrea.

          Ato Michael Tesfamariam,
I agree with your sensible and courageous comment, I also believe in the old saying of “don’t believe the hype” propaganda. Where has Mr Berhane been?

          • Sol September 9, 2018

            Mechael and luwam,
I am sorry to tell you that both of you seem of those 03 cyber viruses of the mafia regime.

Along with other patriotic Eritreans, I applaud the courage of our brother Berhane for speaking out. Sadly, however, I do not believe the problem (i.e. diactorship in Eritrea) can be solved by asking Isaias to relinquish power. It takes more than that.

It is worth remembering we needed an army to liberate Eritrea from Ethiopia but it only takes one brave Eritrean to free the country from Isaias.

      Eritrea forever, death to diactorship.

Danilo, I agree, I don’t think he is alone either.
This is our chance to tell DIA your time is up. Inside and outside of Eritrea, people need to be one in our stand. All Eritreans are on the same page at this time. DIA needs to go one way or anther. Every Eritreans need to voice their support for DIA to be held accountable. Enough is Enough. We needs to talk to our friends, family or any Eritrean we know.at work or at school. Talk, talk and share.

GOD helps to those who help themselves.
    We shall Overcome!!!!

    • Dawit September 8, 2018

Fake empty rhetoric and cheap talk as usual. Real action speaks louder than fake/empty words.

    • Luwam T/lidet September 9, 2018

      Genet,
Do you really represent ‘All Eritreans inside and outside Eritrea’ are on the same page at this time? And who are your friends and family that you talked and shared with to hold DIA accountable?

  • rahwa September 8, 2018

Desperate people do desperate things, similarly, desperate people like Birhane Abraha talk out of desperation.
Since his wife (mother of his kids) got arrested and put in jail, poor desperate Birhane has been acting irrationally.

    • Sol September 9, 2018

Asmerom, desperate people are those worshipers of the maniac dictator like you because your mini god Assyas is exposed to the core by the hero Berhan Abraha. Regarding the imprisonment of his spouse by the dogs of IA is not knew it is the culture of those predators who turned our beloved country to a middle age like state. Asmerom, if you are not a property of DIA, please refrain from attacking Mr. Brhane Abrehe who Confronted the dictator on his backyard.

His name tells it all “ብርሃን ኣብረሀ” just like let it shine, …his message is going to shine all over Eritreans ..he is trying to ring the bell of freedom…this is what people were waiting for. Berhane Abrehe is a living hero who is challeging this dictator…enough is enough ….its time for change.. .

    • Temesgen September 9, 2018

But he is NOT going to be a living hero for much longer that is if he is not dead already in Eritrea.

  • Genet-Original September 9, 2018

We have enough people in prison and dead for speaking the truth. People who spoke the truth like Bitweded Abraha. He told us to stand up for our right, our people and country. Eritrea is worth to fight for. We didn’t not stand up for the previous cause. Now is the time for us to prove that we love our land and our people. If any one who calls himself or herself an Eritrean is not affected by the current atrocity, your identity is in question. People are missing the point. This is not about one man. Again, it is about each of us, Eritreans’ mindset. What do we want to see in our country? do we want the kind of change we are witnessing in Ethiopia? Do we accept the assertions of DIA and his yes men that the past 20 years, we haven’t lost anything? Wasn’t the border issue that destroyed our youths’ future and the Eritrean family? Are you oky with what is going on?. We have Ethiopian ship docked on our Massawa port. What did our brother and sister died for? For an Ethiopian ship to dock on our port without the Eritrean peoples consent? Eritrean everywhere this is your chance to save your people and country.
    This is your last chance.
GOD help our people and country!
    We shall overcome!!!!

“If any one who calls himself or herself an Eritrean is not affected by the current atrocity, your identity is in question.”

      Genet-Original

Eritrea has it’s share of people who are not sure of their identity.
Those who left behind by Ethiopian occupation forces are at home with their brother Iseyas, while the owners were forced to live their country.
Time will come to tackle also this issue. Let’s first get rid of the monster.

      • Genet-Original September 11, 2018

        Hagherawi,
The one thing that I don’t understand is people who claim to be Eritreans or use it as a cover and pretend to reject DIA’s conrrol of Eritrea, never attack even one PFDJ’s leader by name. They don’t come out and say what is wrong with PFDJ control of Eritrea. However, When you or I try to point out what is wrong and shade light on the atrocity, they come after us. Where do they stand, as Eritreans, if they are Eritreans. The other thing is they are harsh against justice seekers than PFDJ’s leaders or followers. So what do they sand for? what are they afraid of to let everyone know who they are?
