Ethiopia says Eritrea manipulating rebels

Addis Ababa – Eritrea is using an Ethiopian rebel group as a “surrogate” to deny responsibility for an incident during which five Europeans were killed and two captured last week, Addis Ababa said on Tuesday.

Five Europeans trekking on the slopes of the famed Erta Ale volcano were killed and two others captured a week ago in the region’s worst attack on tourists in years, which Ethiopia promptly blamed on arch-foe Eritrea.

But a local Ethiopia-based rebel group – the Afar Revolutionary Democratic Unity Front (Arduf ) – said the violence occurred when Ethiopian troops attacked one of their patrols and blamed Addis Ababa for the loss of life.

“This is a new twist to Eritrea’s efforts to deny responsibility for its continued efforts to destabilise Ethiopia and for the killing of the five tourists,” the Ethiopian foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Two Ethiopians were also captured following the attack.

Arduf – a group which claims to have been fighting for the rights of the ethnic Afar people for three decades – said in a statement that the hostages were in good health and could be released through “peaceful negotiation”.

Ethiopia charged Eritrea was using Arduf as a “scapegoat for its efforts to destabilise Ethiopia”.

“It has picked on Arduf as its surrogate for its latest attempt at destabilisation,” the statement added.

In 2007, Arduf insurgents captured five Europeans linked to the British embassy and eight Ethiopians. The Europeans were released after 12 days to the Eritrean government.

Asmara has vehemently denied any involvement in last week’s incident.

The straightforward question is where are the kidnapped tourists? Right at the moment, if they are in Eritrea. The Ethiopians will sooner or later revenge, and it will be the end of HIGI-GIDEF era!

The ERITREAN government can do what ever necessary to destabilise Ethiopia. The government does not even consider the consequences because it will leave Eritrea at any time if it feels threaten by internal or external powers. The main problem of the government is luck of having sensible president. So as long as he stays in power every thing bad is possible. Imagine if isaias had missiles that reach Adis Abeba, imagine if isaias had the muscle to control Africa. He is leaving the country in a terrible mess and we will have a great deal of problems to root out this mess for years to come if and only if ACT now.

Do you know why Issaias is visiting Qatar? Qatar sent an urgent invitational meeting to Eritrea to pass the European Union message to release the two European hostages in Eritrea by ARDUF (Afar).
Qatar to Issaias, Issaias to ARDUF, then the prisoners will be released soon either in Asmara or Massawa.
Isn’t it great to be born white-European in African jails? Who will speak and defend the enslaved Eritreans suffering in the hands of the Arab Beduines and the Arab doctors in Sudan and Egypt? Nobody! It has become shameful to be born Eritrean.
Shabait wrote: “President Isaias Afwerki held talks on 22 January in Doha City with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad Bin Al-Khalifa Al-Thani…”

This is a clear indication that PIA has ordered the rebels to kidnap the tourists, but death might happen unexpectedly by cross fire between rebels and the Ethiopian soldiers. If those were transferred to Eritrea means the rebels are acting from inside territory and the West knows that all rebels in Eritrea are controlled by Issias security forces.Had the rebels had their own base in Ethiopia they should have kept them inside Eritrea. Issias is using these strategy to show he is still powerful in the region , it should reminded that Qatar also negotiated the release of British navy as a result they say thank u to Qatar.Definitely Ethiopia would not let it go without giving some lesson to the regime whenever appropriate. In addition Meles could use as a good opportunity to punish Issias for only once.

(AP) MOGADISHU, Somalia – U.S. military forces flew into Somalia in a nighttime helicopter raid Wednesday, freed an American and a Danish hostage, and killed nine pirates in a mission President Barack Obama appeared to reference before his State of the Union speech, officials and a pirate source said.
