Even though it was 22 years ago, it is still fresh in my mind when Dr. Araya challenged Isayas as to why the Asmara university was closed. I was expecting all educated Eritreans to stand by him. But he did not get any support when Isayas intimidated him in public. I remember there was only one Eritrean who asked him the same question in Richmond California in support of Dr. Araya’s idea. Isayas went into a great length to justify the closing of the university, but still it was all nonsense response. But no one else gave a support to the question asked. We were all clapping.

Can you imagine what could have happened if all Eritreans supported Araya at that time and took some action?

May be we did not know that ” zeytemahre neyedHn zeytewQre neyedTHn” But Araya knew 22 years ago where our county was heading to.

I give him a big credit for being the only educated Eritrean I know to challenge Isayas.

Let’s learn from the past and give him a support now. I know he is not the first person to come with this idea.

Thanks Amanuel for giving the opportunity to educated Eritreans. I hope they learn from their mistakes of neglecting their people
and work together to save their country.

      Tesfa
Issayas propaganda outlet division of BADO SELESTE used hi
strong support from Eritreans in diaspora through ERI-TV to
discourage any attempt of opposition inside the country .
Back then I am sure Dr. Araya fell victim of arrogance from
our people similar unfair accusations toward those who never
hesitate to express themselves independently . RESPONSIBLE MEN
ADMIT THEY CAN NOT CHANGE PAST BUT CAN CHANGE PRESENT & FOR
BETTER FUTURE . If there is willingness of majority , they can
bring down a person the way they lifted him up by mistake .

Thanks Assenna Team you guys are doing the good work..
I remember those days when Eritrean just were too excited that we had a country finally.
No Eritrean was asking who is PFDJ leadership beyond the propaganda- what is their vision and what is their history.

Can anyone translate speech into English and does anyone know if these Eritrean intellectual have come up with an organization or some aims and goals, etc.. or just a Framework that concerned Eritrean around world can use to participate in..

  • AHMED SALEH November 29, 2015

” To bring change we can’t watch with our hands folded for opposition parties to topple this regime , Eritreans in diaspora with their change seekers partners inside the country from every walk must organize and find workable strategy to bring ending solution “.
Well said Dr. Araya , I agree 100% . Right now we lack leadership that
unite and lead the movement for democratic reform .

  • Delai Fithi November 29, 2015

Yes, unity is key. I will not second guess you.
I hope you live long enough to fix the financial mess in our country.
You’re an accomplished technocrat. You and Kibrom Dafla and other talented Eritreans can collaborate.

  • Hagherawi November 29, 2015

    To Dr. Araya Debesay

I congratulate you for standing with your people all along. Your latest call for unity and working together of diaspora Eritreans to bring about a positive change in our country is timely and very important for revival of Eritrea. Thank you.
That said, dear Dottore, we have heard so many good ideas from many people, but the problem is that they are not practicing it. Any group who want unite our people must look like them, i.e. as diverse as Eritrea. Elites of a particular group (ethnic, religious, regional … etc) will have difficulty to win over the trust of all “others”.
The regime’s divide and rule policies were mostly either supported or tolerated by elites. Now they need to work with all Eritreans to reverse the damages caused and the deep scars created in the psyche of the nation as a result of such irresponsible attitudes.

    • Araya Debessay November 30, 2015

      Dear Brother Hagerawi,
You are making an excellent point, a point that I tried to underscore in my message. The post-Isaias Eritrea is a country that should embrace all its children, regardless of their religion, ethnic identify, gender, region or origin. A country that will treat all its children equally and fairly. To that end, we need to make sure that when we call a meeting of Eritreans in our respective localities, no one should be left out.

      • Araya Debessay November 30, 2015

If we need to knock at every door to invite Eritreans to join their brothers and sisters to save their country now, that must be done. The group that is elected at an ALL inclusive meeting of Eritreans in a given locality can claim to be legitimate leaders of the Eritreans in the locality with the mandate to represent their local Eritreans. And the legitimate leaders of each locality will then elect their leaders in their adapted countries, and those leaders together can elect the Global Leaders that we desperately need to get rid of the dictator. This is a very democratic process that will serve us now to free our country and build it together when the dictator is gone.

        • Hagherawi November 30, 2015

          Dear Dr. Araya Debesay

Your message is very clear, it gives hope to many ordinary citizens who have difficulty to look beyond Iseays. Thank you.

  • Zeray November 30, 2015

I respect the DR.and agree with his ideas. Unless we organize fragmented ideas from different knowledgeable people is not going to help Eritreans. Those people who have good ideas need to join one of the parties that are already formed and convert their ideas to fit to the goals and action plans. I recommend DR. Araya join one of the groups that he chooses start helping with ideas and action plans, if you have not already done so.

    • Araya Debessay November 30, 2015

      Dear Haw Zerai,
All of us Eritreans will have to make a choice of which party to belong to or to remain independent. But that is a luxury we all will enjoy when our country becomes a free, multi-party democracy. At this stage, we all have to participate in freeing our country. And we can effectively do so, if we can elect our Global Leaders using the grassroots approach that will involve every Eritrean. And I hope, Brother Zerai, you will actively participate in mobilizing the Eritreans in your locality to form a local Baito. And if we all do the same, the end of the dictatorial regime will be insight.

  • Tesfa November 30, 2015

    Zeray,
You do not do things over and over again to get a differnt result. This has been tried for the last 24 years. It is proved that it does not work.

If you are one of the party leaders you can get elected in the area where you are living. Isn’t this fair? Every one gets the opprtunity to be elected.

  • Semharr November 30, 2015

Thank you Professor Araya Debesay for standing with our people.
Thank you for not selling our people like Ghirma Asmerom, Askede Hagos, Ghedieon, AndeBerhan and many others who betrayed our land and our people. You are one of the few that the tyrant Isayas didn’t use you against our people.
Thank you for standing for freedom, liberty, equality and justice. Keep fighting for our liberation flag (semayawit banderana),our historical provinces, our nationalities and our beloved country Eritrea.

  • wedifre December 1, 2015

God Bless you and Bless all the Justice seekers for Eritrea.

    • Araya Debessay December 1, 2015

      Dear Wedifre,

Your support and the support of all Diaspora Eritreans to the grassroots/bottom-up approach to organizing Eritreans to elect Global Leaders is critical. We all need to support the initiative “Our Voice – Eritrea” has made to achieve this goal. Their email address is ourvoice.eritrea@yahoo.co.uk

Let’s support their initiative by collaborating with Our Voice and by becoming their representatives in our respective localities.
