In defense of Jigna Adhanom.
We are all indebted to the captivating story of Jigna Tegadaly Tesfay Temnowo. It does not mean he was perfect. Here are some errors or may be politically incorrect statements one could have noticed.
1) In his earliest interview with weghata radio, he indicated that the new youth movement was influenced by sub regionalist. that was insensitive for the young Smer movement.
2) Deki Keyih Bahri was a wrong way to describe a group of Eritreans tegadelti who may have had a long history of cozying up with the evil Issayas. When you accuse a region you do so to all the people in that region. Could he not have said ‘hzbawi haailitat neber’.
3) He attacked a guy who asked for forgiveness on the ground that some people from his region hurt people in another region. Jigna Tesfay Temnowo felt he was slanted. If one reads the article the guy wrote as an apology, there was no sign of slant. What in the world is wrong with an apology? Is that not the path to reconciliation?
There are a few others one can see if you listen carefully to the interviews. But, this is nothing compared to the mountain of truth and evidence he has come up with.
The heroism of Jigna Tesfay is unparalleled in that he fought inside enemies equally with outside. His principled stand is so transparent you cant help calling this ‘harbegna’, hero of heroes. But remember this hero also opposed ‘menkae’ Jigna Yohanes Sebhatu and his friends for labeling Issayas actions as regionalist. He correctly foresaw, this would be a good instrument for Issayas to blackmail people and he was right.
Jigna tegadalay Adhanom is coming from a different perspective. He represented the views of all the rest who chose it was not the correct time to challenge Issayas. Tesfay admited in the early interviews no one had the experience of leadership like issayas and when he was sick the front was in turmoil and was at risk of imploding. He cited an instance when issayas engaged in a battle along with all the rest of the fighters, he was literally turned back against his wish by the rest of the fighters. He was too valuable to lose in a battle. He was after all the face of EPLF from the start. It would have been a huge propaganda victory if his head was handed on a platter to the emperor. Despite all the revelations about him being a CIA or the emperors agent, at that time the word Issayas was terror to the amahara ruling class.
JIGNA Amabasador Adhanom, came with his critique of HGDEF, in a series of articles, the first of its kind of ‘tell it like it is’ – in wefri barnet. It exposed Issayas ‘Sawa Project’ top to bottom. It was the first of its kind. Then we had Gigna ‘Alena’ who was a party insider and provided a thorough exposure of the party. No one had written a book of exhaustive material on the subject. There are two other heroes whom Wegahta has interviewed on the same subject – the party and its role and who is Issayas. One was memhr tesfu zewde and another one forgot his name but was in EPLF’s Library for a long time. Both were of equal candor as Tesfay and none contradicted the other.
What one could ask these gentlemen if the party was just an instrument of Issayas, who was following the enemy and all the security protection of tegadelti and EPLF?
I absolutely can’t wait what Jigna Adhanom has to say as these two giants of our freedom era debate each other albeit indirectly.
It is told by various sources that Jigna Tegalay Adahanom was a bit of a maverick in his views and did not quite get along with the others in the leadership. Let’s hope he does not engage on tit for tat type of talk and tell us substantive difference on what Gigna Tesfay Temnowo has to say.

I hope Adhanom doesn’t dwell on irrelevant issues that could eventually end up turning against him, like it did on Mefin Hagos. Like Tesfay Temneo, Adhanom has also a lot 0f true and useful stories to tell. He was giving them out bit by bit in small articles but not in a detailed form like Temnao did. That’s exactly what he should do now. He has to describe things in the way he saw and experienced them. The differences with Tesfay Temnao’s stories should then be left for the reader to judge. Mesfin Hagos’s old and concervative ways have no value anymore. We need a lot more oppenness and cencerity as it is about the history of the country. I can’t wait to hear these details from Adhanom.

History is history, in one way or another this country is in state of crises in the hands of the dictator.
So we do not care about how the struggled went about, we care about what is goining on now. You know for over 21 years, we have been told about the history of the struggle for inpendenec. But the country has failed to score progress in economics, it is most isolated nation in the world, Eritrea today is having the weakest military in Africa, its citizens have been fleeing in tens of thousands.
So does it make sense to hear about the struggle for inpendence while the country is in trouble, not being able to make any progress.

ብመጀምርያ ሓቀኛ’ዩ ዝበልካዮ ታሪኽ ኪትትርኽ ኪትጅምር እንከለኻ ነቲ ቅድሜኻ ተባዕ ስጉምቲ ወሲዱ ዓቕሙ ዝፈቕዶ ዘበርከተ ሓርበኛ ብምዝላፍ ኣይኮንካን ዝጅመር! ንሓደ ሓቀኛ ይኹን ሓሶት ፍጻመ ዝተረኸ ሰብ ከኣ ዝንቡዕ (ጥምዙዝ) ኣይብሃልን’ዩ! ንስኻ’ሞ ቅኑዕ’ዩ ዝበልካዮ ትትርኽ፡ ብድሕሪኡ ዝንቡዕድዩ ኣይዝንቡዕን ነቲ ሰማዒ ታሪኽ’ዩ ዝግደፍ። ንስኻትኩም ግን ካብቲ ዕቡይ መላኺ ዝወረስኩሞ ንዕቀት ኣብ ልዕሊ ህዝቢ ግዲ ኣልዩኩም፡ ንህዝቢ ኤርትራ ከም ሽዕበት (ማይ ዝጸገበ ስቡሕ መሬት) ቈጺርኩም ዘዝዘራእኩምሉ ኣብቊሉ ከፍሪ ትደልይዎ ኣለኹም። ንነገራት ከይመመየ ዝበልኩሞ ዝቕበለኩም እንስሳ ጌርኩም ስለ ዝሓሰብኩሞ፡ ‘እቲ ዝተባህለ ጌጋ’ዩ! እዚ ንሕና ንነግረካ’ዩ እቲ ቅኑዕ! ንኣና ስምዓና!’ ኢልኩም ብምጅማርኩም ጥራይ ሓቂ ይኹን ሓሶት ብዘየገድስ፡ ሰብ ንቓልኩም ከይሰምዕ ኣቐዲምኩም ሽውሃቱ ዓጺኹሞ ኣለኹም። ‘ናይ እከለ ጌጋ’ዩ ናተይ ግን ቅኑዕ’ዩ!’ እናበልኩም ክትዋናጀሉ ስቓይን መከራን ህዝቢ ኤርትራ ከተናውሑ ትፍትኑ ኣለኹም። ገለዶኾን እዚ ብዘይካ ናይ ስልጣኑ ካልእ ሓለዋን ሓልዮትን ዘይብሉ መላኺ፡ ካብ ገንዘብ እቲ ከብዱ ኣጥምዩ ዝገዝኦ ዘሎ የዋህ ህዝቢ ግናዕ ፈይ ኣቢሉልኩም ኮይኑ’ዩ? ሕጂ ንሓቀኛ ታሪኽ ከተዛናብዑ ተላዒሊኩም? እዚ ሕቶ’ዩ። ውንጀላ ኣይኮነን።
ካልእ፡ ትረኻ ገዲም ተጋዳላይ ሓርበኛ ተስፋይ ተምነዎ፡ መመላእታን ኣርማትን’ምበር ምብዳህ ኣየድልዮን’ዩ። ታሪኽ ሰውራ ኤርትራ ኸኣ ስሙ ከም ዝሕብሮ ታሪኽ ህዝቢ ኤርትራ’ምበር ታሪኽ ውልቀ ሰባት ስለ ዘይኮነ፡ ፍሉያት ጠበቓታት ኣይደልዩዎን እዮም! ኩሉ ህዝቢ ኤርትራ ጠበቓ ሰውራኡን ሃገሩን’ዩ! ስለዚ፡ ተረኽቲ ኩኑ ኣመሓላለፍቲ ትረኻ፡ ፈነወኹም ቅድሚ ምጅማርኩም ኣቀራርባኹም ከተማዓራርዩ እዩ ዝግባኣኩም! ልኡኻትን ዕሱባትን ውልቀ መላኺ እንተዘይኴንኩምውን ብመጀመርያ ንተባዕ ገዲም ተጋዳላይ ተስፋይ ተምነዎን ንህዝቢ ኤርትራን ይቕሬታ ሕተቱ! እዚ እንተዘይጌርኩም ግን ካብቲ ነቲ መዘና ኣልቦ ገበናቱ ሰኣን ይቕሬታ ሓቲቱ ምሕረት ብምልማን መገዲ ህይወት ዝጓዓዝ፡ ብትዕቢትን ድርቅናን በቲ ዝሓዞ ናይ ጥፍኣት መገዲ ናብ ጸድፊ ዝጓዓዝን ዘሎ ዉልቀ መላኺ ዝፈልየኩም ነገር ኣይክህሉን’ዩ። ህዝቢ ኤርትራ ሎሚ ዝግባእ ንቅሓት ወኒኑ’ዩ! “ከም ቀደም ይመስለክን ውሕጅ ይወስደክን!” ከይኮነኩም ነገሩ ተጠንቀቑ! ትዕቢትን ዘለፋን ንመላኽን ሰዓብቱን ኣይጠቐመን! “መለበምን ኣይግበርካ መለበምን ኣይኽላእካ እዩ!” ካብ ጉዕዞን ውድቀትን ዕቡያት ተመሃሩ!
