The pro-government Al-Rayaam newspaper quoted Afewerki in an interview to be published this week as saying that “corruption in South Sudan is no secret”.

Nine Eritrean army officers were killed in a surprise air attack on January 12 while traveling to Egypt, leading a convoy of 17 trucks full of arms that was to be smuggled to Hamas, late reports coming from Asmara indicated. The report disclosed that a colonel, Afwerqi Mosazgi, six Majors and two captains are among the 39 Sudanese and Egyptian associates killed in the attack.

The Ethiopian opposition army which have been salvaged, trained and mentored by the Eritrean regime and still continues to recruit new members is organized as a reserve guard to defend President Issias Afwerqi in an event an uprising arises, a senior Ethiopian opposition leader told our source in Asmara under a condition of anonymity. According to the source, Issias met the various opposition leaders separately in December 2008 during which he complained to them that his generals and ministries are untrustworthy who are opposed to the existence of the opposition forces in Eritrea and their goals and then asked them to stand firmly by his side to win their fight.

In unusually uncooperative and daring response to the Ambassador’s appeal, both members of PFDJ and non members told him that, they are tired of the government’s endless demand for money while it totally ignores the community’s request for basic information about the economic and political situation in the country.
