Sudan’s Bashir on 3-day visit to Eritrea

June 12, 2013 (KHARTOUM) – Sudanese president Omer Al-Bashir begins on Thursday a three-day visit to Asmara where he will hold meetings with the Eritrean president Isaias Afwerki over bilateral relations between the two neighbours.

According to the Sudanese presidency Bashir’s delegation includes his presidency’ affairs minister Bakri Hassan Saleh, foreign affairs minister Ali Karti and the director of intelligence and security services Mohamed Atta.

“The two leaders will discuss the path of bilateral relations and ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries”, reported the state news agency SUNA on Wednesday.

This week, Al-Ayam newspaper disclosed that Afwerki had refused to allow SPLM-N rebels to open a new front against Bashir’s regime in eastern Sudan from his western border.

The independent daily reported that Afwerki had been approached last week by the SPLM-N leader Malik Agar and Yasir Arman, secretary general of the rebel group.

The SPLM-N, which formed an alliance with Darfur rebel groups, seeks to capitalise on the growing discontent of Beja ethnic group over the implementation of a peace treaty that Asmara sponsored with the former rebel East Front in October 2006.

Musa Mohamed Ahmed, presidential assistant and head of Eastern Front has reportedly left Khartoum to Asmara to protest the non-implementation of 2006 peace agreement.

Eritrea in the past supported the SPLM and other Sudanese rebel or opposition forces in their struggle against Khartoum government. However, Eritrea has bad relations with Juba which, after the signing of 2005 peace agreement, focused its efforts on the improvement of relations with its regional enemy Ethiopia.

On the other hand, Khartoum since improved its relations with the isolated regime in Asmara, as the two countries signed different political and economic accords. Sudan also banned the activities of Eritrean rebel groups from its territory.

In Khartoum, the opposition Eritrean Islam Islah (Reform) Movement on Wednesday announced that Sudanese security service arrested eight members of its military wing in Kassala, eastern Sudan , near the border with Eritrea.

Khartoum in the recent years was condemned by United Nations and rights groups for handing over Eritrean opponents to Asmara.

On October 17, 2011, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees condemned the Sudanese authorities for handing over 300 Eritreans to Asamara without screening them for refugee status.

Eritrea in the past accused Sudan of supporting Islamic groups who were carrying attacks against the government in the western province of Eritrea near the border.

Two defunct guys, one running from justice the other one soon to follow are meeting for a chat. I am pretty sure the discussion is about their survival rather the surviavl of the people that they are oppressing. I have faith in the big guy upstairs that we will see the two behind bars and justice will be served some day some where. The sad part the damage is done.

  • Awet June 13, 2013

Two ruthless dictators needing each others shoulders to lean on on continues oppression of their people. Both don’t have their people’s interest at heart, just their power. I wish both unsuccessful meeting.

President Issaias Afeworki is an extremely important leader. The Sudanese appreciate his wisdom and experience.

      • MightyEmbasoyra June 13, 2013

I agree on the 2nd part of the sentence. He is a very experienced – on how to destroy a nation – they can see that he is doing very good job on that. You are also correct when you say Isayas is extremely important leader. The question is for which country? I would say for Ethiopia. He is destroying Eritrea and that means helping Ethiopia big time.

Brainwashed by who? As you can see I am an independent person. On the other hand, you are the one who is brainwashed – by hgdef.

      • ida June 13, 2013

If Hitler was important? I would say, he was important at least to the Germans. Isayas is only important to himself. He is below Hitler’s level.

Eritrean sponsored terrorists annihilated by Ethiopian security forces
    June 12, 2013

Encouraged by Egypt’s empty threats and loud noise or ordered by Morsi, Shaebiya sent some mercenaries to northern Ethiopia, Tigrai State.
The toothless Shaebiya could not fight face to face with Ethiopia so it resorts to sneaking terrorists.
The squad which consisted nine terrorists was trained in Eritrea for a long time in various terrorist techniques in Eritrea. The Eritrean terrorist team was transported through Sudan to the town of Hamdait in the border and then they traveled to Kafta, Humera Bereket Kebele. They were apprehended by the Ethiopian security forces in Berket Kebele with help of the population.
Five of the terrorists including the squad leader were killed and the four others were captured alive. 3 M14, 6 Kalashnikovs, 2 military goggles, 15 hand grandees, 4 cell phones and 2490 bullets were also captured.
The terrorists were stopped before they did any damage to the population or property.

two losers!there is nothing more to say!

  • Kombishtato June 13, 2013

Though this is a coming together of two ruthless individuals who need each other. None the less, it is a major achievement for the Hgdef regime.
This will allow the Asmara regime to siphon off Sudanese hard currencies and get petroleum products, food and other consumers goods easily, plus sneak through armaments and ammunition busting the UN embargo. This will ease the dire economic pressure in Eritrea.
Their biggest gain or license would be that they will use the Beja Hadendewa groups and Sudan to hunt down and kidnap any would be opposition based in eastern Sudan and the Red Sea province in Sudan in day light.

Issayas & Beshir are both losers and they are pursuing together towards their last destiny which is grave yard

  • Hzbi June 13, 2013

They are going to discuss on how to support Eypte’s planning to attack Ethiopia, this is all about the Blue Nile discussion. At this time Ethiopia have no power and can not fight 3 countries, Eritrea, Sudan,Egypt. The visit of Beshir is also going to discuss on how to sell more Eritrean people to Bedioum and help to Rashaid.

    • sara June 13, 2013

you are irresponsible, may be u hate the dictator but this is now how you protect your ppl. if you are Eritrean of course. pls don’t mix things up. this Nile issue is not Eritrean. and let Ethio/Egypt worries about it.

For all who are concerned about Eritrea and Eritreans. stay out of Nile issue.

like it or not, when Ethiopians get a chance, they will try to destroy Eritreans.

  • Freweini June 13, 2013

Indeed two losers, but let’s not forget the biggest losers r the so called eritrean opposition group. Ethiopia should expel these groups if they really want change in Eritrea, whitch i highly dought it.
    B?

    • MightyEmbasoyra June 13, 2013

      Freweini,
That’s Ethiopia’s interest. They need a weaker Eritrea. From home, Isayas is doing great job of destroying Eritrea and from the other side Ethiopia is playing big time to repel the opposition from each other. If they are united, they can dismantle isayas and Eritrea will be at peace and prosperity – not good for Ethiopia (they still think we are the enemy). Of course, this is just my suspicion.

      • sara June 13, 2013

of course, you are right. I have no hope from Ethiopians they will never be a good neighbors. Ethiopians already have the right leader for Eritreans Isayas who destroy Eritrean inside out.

      • Abdallah Ahmed June 13, 2013

For such an intelligent guy you say a lot of stupid things. Dismantle? Go play outside.

        • sara June 15, 2013

abdallah, go find yr father. I am 100% sure u are not Eritrean. no Eritrean support this guys. he is no good for Eritrea. he is killing us inside out. if u don’t know this, u are not Eritrean period.

  • ida June 13, 2013

What is the meeting about? I hope this meeting doesn’t have something to do with the Eritrean refugees in Sudan. God save our people!
