Fetsum Abraham: General Tsadkan Vs. the dignified Oromo Scholars and Professionals (Part I)

I like to discuss two important events in this and the following opportunities clearly acknowledging one is bitter, expired and destructive, and the other sweet, productive and promising. The expired is the current unsettled mind of General ጻድቃን ገብረትንሳኤ, which I consider a threat to the East Africans, the promising being the latest letter to Isaias by the Oromo Scholars and Professionals in different continents of the world that I consider a blessing to the peaceful coexistence of Eritrea and Ethiopia. In so discussing, I also acknowledge the General’s opinion as strictly his own that does not represent the Tigrean people, while the other represents the dignified Oromo people through their highly educated members of the society.

Here is the first: ATV: ኣዛዚ ሰራዊት ኢትዮጵያ ነበር ጀነራል ጻድቃን ገብረትንሳኤ፡ ዓሰብ ናብ ኢትዮጵያ ምኻዳ ከምዘይተርፍ ዝገልጽ ኣዕናዊ መርገጺኡ ደጊሙ ይገልጽ። admin 05 Mar 2020

Comment: First of all, I like to mention that we were classmates in Mekelle’s Atse Yohannes High school and very close to each other when we joined Addis Ababa University then after. I liked him then and I like him now. I remember resting in his house once upon a time in 1975 when I was assigned to work in his hometown CHERCHER, Raya Tigray for few months. I thank the brother for his generosity and warm hospitality of the time and all the good companionship we had had through the years in my lovely hometown Mekelle. Yet, I am sorry to hear what he said and could not help keeping quiet for the sake of our region’s peaceful coexistence. There is nothing here against him as a person but certainly against his poisonous mind!

Ordinary humans always try to cover their weakness and incapacity with excuses and nothing is new here with the General’s provocative opinion against the region’s objective for peaceful coexistence. Everybody knows that the General as the head of the Ethiopian Armed forces was directly responsible for whatever happened in the Badme war. He certainly succeeded penetrating the Eritrean defense line to reoccupy Badme defeating the Eritrean Army in that disaster. Hurray, great job indeed for the General who substantially showed his skills in that war between the two brotherly societies, no matter how catastrophic to humanity his achievement (about 100,000 deaths) had been. It was bloody, savage and sinful that lacks moral justification the barbaric minds from both sides created without consulting their decent people. The General may be proud of what he did but cannot be dignified of it because it was a shameful crime against humanity, one that does not care about life as a concept.

His strategy, however, failed to be effective in the Assab front where the Ethiopian Army tried its best to win but drastically failed after suffering devastating loss under the Eritrean Army. The General’s failure in that war and the way the war was fought are all history today and they don’t need his explanation any longer: there is video-graphic evidence as to how many Ethiopian soldiers perished in that bloody war that he orchestrated from the highest hierarchy of the Ethiopian armed forces.

Now over 20 years after the tragedy and about 2 years after the removal of TPLF from post, the General suddenly wakes up from stillness to say what he said in his latest appearance. I could have done this and that; I suggested something else and the government stopped me from doing it; I read a book about Navies in the sea that justifies Ethiopia’s rights on the subject; I could have captured Assab if this and that, ቀምሽ ሓንክይሉና are all the defeatist mind’s reflection to the agony of defeat and resentment stored in his subconscious mind since the time of the war.

Was not he part of the TPLF crew that recognized the nationhood of Eritrea in full? What IF HE HAD CAPTURED THE CITY ANYWAY? Would it have meant Assab changing its nationality from Eritrean to Ethiopian? Would there be peace in the region in that condition? Can Ethiopia illegally occupy the city and sustain international pressure on the matter? What is the book the General depended on in this senseless provocation and why did not Ethiopia apply the knowledge to claim Assab in the International court during the deliberation? Would Assab still be legally part of Eritrea according to international law had it belonged to Ethiopia? Is this nonsense necessary now after the entire world involved to pacify the war ending up clearly defining our boundaries by the book? Can any violence reverse this reality for the sake of Ethiopian Navy in the Red Sea? What is that Navy for anyway, to defend what from who?

It is unfortunate to hear the expired General singing the Blues, yet to create another regional blood shade from ordinary Ethiopian status after causing the death of 100 thousand people from leadership status. Was not he one of the architects of the disaster? How much blood is enough for a twisted human being to stop being another cause of catastrophe and what does it take to, at least live the rest of it shutting the mouth for the sake of the young East Africans all inclusive?

He wants somebody to do what he failed to do knowing the case is legally closed in the International Court. He does it at this critical moment in history where we are trying to pacify and rebuild the messed up relationship between the Eritreans and Tigreans as a result of political mismanagement from both sides of the isle. There is nothing here but betrayal to both societies at minimum and to the entire region at large. It is unfortunate indeed to see a senior TPLF official dropping to this level of capitulation against the view of the world and the Tigran people that only want peace with the Eritreans.

The question: Why is he now entertaining the past after blowing the best opportunity to practicalize his opinion from the highest rank of the Ethiopian armed forces? I do believe he is doing it for the following reasons.

1)      Regret: He is probably suffering the consequence of his failure to capture Assab at the time he was leading the Ethiopian Army and would not let go the grief registered in his subconscious mind. He is actually betraying his comrades making them responsible for his inability to capture Assab during that terrible time in history. “they stopped me from doing it” attitude to reconcile with his defeatism like the dictator habitually using the Weyanne syndrome for his failure to take care of Eritrea.

2)      Fear of the unknown: He is probably afraid of TPLF’s fate in the current situation and wants to deflect attention using the Eritrean phenomenology as usual. He was a person fighting for Tigran Independence for years, rejecting his Ethiopian-ness in action. He was serving TPLF that traditionally supported the Eritrean independence as a principle. He could have been partly responsible for engaging TPLF fighters in Eritrea where they died to defend EPLF positions from multiple Ethiopian offensives. But things changed and he became an ordinary person after TPLF’s downfall in Ethiopia. With all the animosities against TPLF going on in Ethiopia, he sounds scared enough to reclaim his ETHIOPIAN identity that he lived rejecting since he joined the group in the seventies.

3)      Guilt: The brother may be suffering from guilt, a selfish attitude that emanates from Pride. The restless mind is saying “I am better than this, this isn’t really me, I should not have been in this situation now, I must have done something wrong, where is the crowd that followed me, bla, bla, bla!”. Yet, it came with an interesting idea; overdoing it to repair the broken image by acting more Ethiopian beyond the hard core Ethiopians themselves. Therefore, he had to categorize himself with Tamrat et al. reversing what he fought for the last 45 years just to feel important in a situation where he has been sidelined by the current Ethiopian regime as a matter of necessity. In so doing, he appears trying to save himself by pretending different from the TPLF members currently preaching for reconciliation with the Eritrean people. The fear made him a virus in that community, betraying his comrades as if they were the only ones responsible for Ethiopia’s humiliating defeat in the Assab front, while the guilt exaggerated his Ethiopian-ness that he lived rejecting for the most of his life.

4)      Attention: Most famous people get depressed after someone takes their place. Their important diminishes to the ordinary and they cannot stand themselves any longer. In the absence of acceptance, solitude becomes unpleasant loneliness and the egoist mind goes to work complicating existence as much as possible. Attention deficiency syndrome is a derivative of complex and lack of confidence, no one needs it otherwise! The more one’s value in society depreciates to the level of the ordinary, the harder ego tries to recover the lost popularity by any means of absurdity. The more one suffers from any type of complex (inferiority or superiority), the stronger the desire for attention depending on the spiritual consciousness of the object in discussion; needless saying power exasperates it tremendously. The disease is as addictive as drugs and my friend had all of it when he was on top but no more.

Unfortunately, he could not accommodate the new reality that reduced him to an ordinary human being in Tigray and had to come to the limelight by this immoral means of doing it. This is strictly how the ego works: the challenge is how to adapt normalcy after dislodged from the podium (power, control, athletics, prestige, politics, wealth, etc.). The hardest thing to overcome defeat for ordinary beings has always been capitulation to attract the attention that disappeared with the stage. I do believe my friend is a sufferer of this mental condition today doing anything for attention even at the expense of the Eritreans and the Ethiopians as a unit!

5)      He is probably playing psychology with Isaias’s mind considering what he said in earlier interview that he was interested to continue the Badme war until the fall of Assab using the notion that “the Eritreans gave Ethiopia the opportunity to do so by starting the war”. It seems like he is telling the dictator not to start another was that motivates Ethiopia all the way to Assab.

Whatever the reason for his poisonous suggestion immaterial, the societies are damaged through many decades of violence. The wound so severe; it will take some time to heal but only if we learn from our mistakes and avoid any more mistake that can further disturb our relationship. I wish my friend had gone for reconciliation between our peoples to compensate them for the incalculable damages they suffered under EPLF and his TPLF. He owes apology to the region for being the main architect of the massacre experienced in the war. Unfortunately, this General is out of tune with reality  becoming an obstacle to the current effort of many Eritreans and Tigreans to pacify each other all over the place. I hope genuine Tigreans will realize the situation and be careful not to repeat the same mistake that condemns our societies to another debacle. I also hope Eritreans will look at the matter deeper than this nonsense; I believe the two victimized societies are bigger than the illusive General’s opinion to not get distracted from their journey to peaceful coexistence.

At the bottom line, my friend needs spiritual rebirth to Kool off his ego and overcome his unsettled internal problems. He needs to accept the damage he inflicted to all of us as the highest official in the Ethiopian Army. He needs to meditate on it with humility and repentance. He needs spending a lot of time with the spiritual monks in ENDA MARIAM, Mekelle instead of trying to recycle his sin through the death of our youth, all inclusive. No Ethiopian or Eritrean should die anymore in senseless wars: What must die this time after the bitter experience is the destructive mind, the collective ego of the past that caused incalculable damage to the brotherly East Africans. We the older generation have the responsibility to transform the mind from the disaster it had been to the loving it can be. We have to protect the next generations by cleansing it from war and death to peace and life. I can only pray for my friend and stop!

In conclusion, there is no question that the Tigreans are our natural allies irrespective of what happened in the past by our savage leaders such as Tsadkan and Isaias. None of the expired elements of the societies should be given another chance to repeat their damage. We just have to be smarter not to be cheated any more without losing the confidence and will power to secure peace in the region. ALERT RECONCILLIATION is the solution to both of us and it can be achieved through willingness to break the cycle of hatred and vengeance using the power of attentive compassion. We can reverse the situation to normalcy because we need it equally.

We have to be careful here to separate Tsadkan from the Tigrean people because he represents himself for the most part. But the question remains: are the Tigreans our dependable allies as well? Can we change them to be that, otherwise? I believe so; it can develop to that level of alliance but never with the wishy-washy mentality as such! I believe we can slowly heal the wounds and benefit the two oppressed societies in the long run but the delicate situation that needs lots of work and spiritual input cannot be sustained with disturbed, vindictive and irresponsible individuals as such. Our peoples do not need this negativity any more, they had had it enough! The extent of damage this poor General can do to the relationship is obvious but I think the Ethiopians and specially the Tigreans should openly reject his poison in the social media to minimize the effect and good luck.

In the meantime, relax and stay peaceful believing in your conviction, closely monitoring the current regional events and doing your thing. Keep on consolidating your tight relationship and solid organization to victory and we shall make it despite any obstacle in the way!  Please tune up for the next article on the message of the Oromo intellectuals and  professionals to that dude in Adi Hallo. Peace!!

Yes, this disposed General is trying to attract attention from the Assab dreamrers and probably wants to prove them his Ethiopaness to secure the wealth he accumulated in the past 28 years.
The TPLF stand as organization, on Eritrea’s sovereugnity was/has been very firm and same since its inception, which I personally appreciate most.
The heatred which was developed among the two people in the last 20 years has started to heal and such poisonous messages(from Tsadkan and likes) would hinder its recovery. All stakeholders, specially Tigrians must condemn it and remind others not to play games with the new generation, instead look for a peaceful neighborhood and developement.
Tsadkan you are a failed attention seeker and trust me you will pay the price this or the other way.
Peace and live for the two brotherly/sisterly people.

      Dear Zule;
Yes, TPLF’s position on Eritrea has been firm and solid from the start. that makes the Tigreans our natural allies on top of the fact that their fighters sacrificed for our independence like we sacrificed for their power in Ethiopia. This history is really the most fundamental cause for our immediate reconciliation no matter what happened in the past. We are also a family that produced thousands of people together and lived side by side since the beginning of time.

it is no about the expired leaders opinion now after everything is legally closed that matters but the peaceful coexistence of our people’s forever. No Tigrean and Eritrean blood should be shaded in useless wars any more and that is what we are trying to do through writing, etc. Many activists from both sides are today working for better understanding and reconciliation. And then this guy comes to mess that up in reversal of his position since the birth of TPLF.

I am working for the entire region including the Eritreans and the Tigreans believing that the Eritrean nationshood is a comfort zone for the Tigreans as much as their consistency on our nationhood had been for us. This will be clear after the dictator but we must build the brotherhood (messed up by EPLF and TPLF) right now. Tsadkan et al. don’t matter a bit and they should not be given an opportunity to disturb this fundamental reality earned by the blood and sweat of the two natural allies and we need to be careful abut this.
I am not discussing Tsadkan here by the way because of his importance (he is nothing today) but to direct our peoples towards peace and cooperation from the bottom of my heart this so because I love them both and care about their safety. There are too many families from both sides at stake here that the shallow and opportunist politicians of yesterday should not be given the chance to destruct after what they did to both of us in the past.

And did you mean to say you love deeply “deki” mekelle???
Why can’t you also tell your gullible readers why & how you left Sahel/EPLF? You did say “Ain’t nothing to hide”, don’t hide ze truth then!

  • Woldegabriel March 12, 2020

    Dear Fitsum,
To me, this is a firsthand elaborate psychoanalysis portrayal of the minds of the weyane leadership that stands very instructive, fascinating and mind boggling. In fact, it scientifically explains why our fathers said “libi Tigray tiwyway”. I have nothing against the Tigray people, but it is high time that they start taking responsibilities for what their leadership did to the Eritrea people.

  • Fetsum Abraham March 12, 2020

    Dear welde;
To be honest with you, nothing will change the international verdict that defined our borders after both countries went to court with the best lawyers they can buy and evidences they could present.to support their cases. Even the hard core Ethiopians are swallowing it as it is, knowing that it is over. Nothing will change the verdict even if TPLF officially forfeits it as a unit or the Ethiopians occupy it with another war, which I hope the madness won’t take place for the sake of all of us. obvious is that today’s TPLF cannot threaten us alone any longer. and no Ethiopian from other ethnic groups will take it seriously any more.

I believe in giving the Ethiopians a very good deal to use our ports for their needs and I think that is what the next government will do and what our people want to see in the long run.
But Tsadkan’s attempt to polute Abiy with this destructive idea can only be to put his government in trouble like they put TPLF in this situation: “if I could not lead, let other leaders suffer” mentality obviously won’t work for everyone TPLF by now.
TPLF had the chance to settle the case amicably but it blew it. Yet, Abiy accepted the verdict hoping to build the broken relationship and this should obviously make some TPLF members jealous and remorseful about the lost opportunity for them to react as such.

I believe the Oromos that are finally in power understand this very well; not to give this group any more chance to mess up the region with endless contradictions. Our duty is to handle things as they come: trying to reconcile the peoples of Eritrea and Tigrai for peaceful coexistence and only work with political groups that want peace with us. The Tigeens are welcome here but If TPLF continues to play its games back and forth, we should let it dance in Tigrai while we do business with the central government with open heart and honest desire to support one another as good neighbors in the region.
We must construct solid relationship with the Oromo people and save our societies from the desperate .minds in Mekelle. We know Badme has to come back home at the end of the day and in fact we could have had it by now had the dictator done it right. He does not want Badme back home and so we will have to wait for another government to peacefully do it for us after his removal. Tsadkan knows it and the planet earth does, needless saying the rest of Ethiopia does not care about the vllage and will not compromise good relationship with us because of it.
Just relax and enjoy the show with full attention and every thing will be fine after the parasite’s removal.

  • Fetsum Abraham March 12, 2020

“if I could not lead, let other leaders suffer” mentality obviously won’t work for everyone TPLF by now” should change to “everyone knows TPLF by now”

    Tnx.

  • Fetsum Abraham March 12, 2020

Our situation is more than okay! we are at a time in history when everything about our nationhood is legally secured by universal agreement. The time for schauvinistic Ethiopians to threaten us and play with our insecurity is over through our blood and sweat, and legalized international verdict on our borders. The overplayed ERITREAN CARD that Tsadkan tried to play is outdated and cannot be used to scare Eritreans or for political business between Ethiopians political groups any more. Our interest to pacify the broken relationship between the Eritreans and the Tigreans is not because of fear of the Weyannes but rather for peaceful coexistence. The Tigreans need to know this clearly.

Neither the TPLF nor Tsadkan can fool the Ethiopians and threaten us any more no matter how weak we look right now. The most immediate threat to our society is the dictatorship that is about to die from our political life sooner or later. Once the dictator dissolves and we democratize the society by the book, Eritrea will live in peace for ever! it will survive any difficulty that may come about from our neighbors. I don’t want to talk about it now but we have so many things we can diplomatically do with the world to neutralize any threat through good leadership, We are rich and independent and we know the Red Sea needs peace for the world to use it. THAT IS THE CARD we have in possession to attract the Super Powers for solid friendship on top of our legalized nationhood and demarcated borders. Add to it solid unity and political wisdom, nothing can threat us any more. We have the capacity to neutralize any threat from anyone, I mean any threat without a drop of blood. We just have to be smart and execute them in action.
I am confidently saying Ethiopia’s threat to our nationhood will terrible back fire literally without blood shade from our side when we play our available cards right. We don’t need to fight any threat but execute the best diplomatic venues that protect our society for ever only through intelligence.
I can only discuss this alternative in the presence of any concrete threat from our neighbors but for now, I don’t consider Tsadkan or TPLF a threat to our nationhood. It is rather one against the Tigreans’ interest in the region, unfortunately. Don’t worry about them, just do what you have to do: Concentrate on structural unity (via YiAkl or otherwise) and conceptual unity (Eritrea Focus or otherwise) and the rest will be a beautiful drama to watch from distance.
I have no doubt that we will make the Ethiopians our best allies through democracy and civilized diplomacy with or without TPLF. They will have to make peace with us for the sake of their society and I hope the Tigrean people get the point and protect themselves from dangerous losers such as the General!!PERIOD

    Humble Commentary, 12 Mar 2020

    Dear Eritrean Readers,
    I am baffled.!!!
Why are we concentrating on TsadKan or Satan ?!?! I really don’t understand.
Our immediate problem — I thought — is Issayas who, we can dare say, is an absolute dictator contrary to the cardinal aim of the Eritrean Liberation Force who sacrificed precious Life for the Independence of Eritrean people to forge their LIFE in their own prism.

I do not understand why we Eritreans — after thirty -yeas of horrendous sacrifice and almost thirty-years under indigenous dictator — are fragmented into 80 to 90 groups, preaching with straight face, that we are fighting for the same and only goal.

DEAR ERITREANS: PLEASE, LET US BE HONEST TO OUR SELVES. After all, there were times when WE ERITREANS had a good name for being STRAIGHT and HONEST. at any circumstances. It was a characteristic that we used to be humbly proud of among various societies.
I hate to say this:. WE ERITREANS are now betraying our own characteristic of YESTERYEARS.. Is this what philosophers say: CLASSICAL TRAGEDY ??? >>> which means WE KNOW our weakness but WE CANNOT help it!!! THE END

Subject: Fetsum Abraham: General Tsadkan Vs. the dignified Oromo Scholars and Professionals (Part I)” MARCH 11, 2020.

    Commentary, 15 Mar 2020
Reading all the above commentaries, any innocent person of any race and nationality would be forced to conclude that ERITREANS are weird people — squabbling among themselves and insulting each other, presumably to get rid of one individual who turned out to be a RUTHLESS DICTATOR after leading Eritrea to Freedom, Liberty, Independent African Country. Alas, Eritreans were awakend to the unexpected REALITY that one of its indigenous freedom fighter tuned out to be a RUTHLESS Dictator against the Eritrean People !!!! It was shocking. What was the most STINGING development was the revelation that the “freedom fighter’ was actually the ‘enemy’ of Eritrea, all along, based on his long range grievances against the PEOPLE of ERITREA !!!!! Needless to say, it was a shocking revelation to the people of Eritrea, as well as to the 30-year GALLANT FREEDOM FIGHTERS.

Eritreans were placed between the boundless ecstasy for the liberation of Eritrea but at the same time they were placed on stinging embarrassing situation where the LEADER was actually the ANTAGONISTIC element to the liberation of Eritrea itseltself !!!!! Needless to say, the revealing dictatorial governance over the Eritrean people was ruthless based on long-term hatched HATRED for the Eritrean people. It is not an exaggeration to say that Eritreans have never experienced such a cruelty of governance by any colonial force in its history. Never!

Eritreans could not handle the revelation, as attested by the formation of 80 to 90 liberation groups to be free — this time — from Issayas Afewerki Abraha Miratch. Alas! It is strange that the groups could NOT get together even though it was tooted that they all have ONE GOAL I.e. the removal of the self-appointed President from the top most post in the government of Eritrea. Obviously, the much tooted ONE GOAL objective is a sharade. Eritrea is infested by multiple interests, based on sociological factors that WE ALL KNOW VERY WELL. No need to rub the wound. And, needless to say, the shrewd Issayas KNEW IT A LONG TIME AGO.

Issaya, in twenty-seven year period of time in the Eritrean Struggle for Liberation has accomplished what he set out to do — bringing Eritrea under his boots. And, needless to say, WE ERITREANS are squabbling among ourselves and insulting each on the free >> costless >>> and passing time on the internet. Needless to say, with that ‘occupation’, the LIBERTY of Eritrea will remain as a ‘struggle’, but only in our DREAMS, wherever we are around the Globe >>> as refugees or citizens of other countless countries around the Globe. As to the people inside Eritrea, as prisoners, may the Benevolent Alah and God [in alphabetical order] come down to Earth and give their Blessings to their beloved and religiously dedicated poor people of Eritrea.

Back to Issayas.: What is his next agenda? No body knows, of course. We can only conjure. With that background, it may not be too far fetched to contrmplate that Issayas may very well try to succeed in bringing Eritrea into Ethiopia and become the emperor of Greater Ethiopia with the current young >> enthusiastic, >> sharp >> shrewed Prime Minister [and recipient of Nobel Peace Price ] as the Representative of the “emperor” (1)

Let me put it differently. Are we really interested in solving the problems of Eritrea in PRIORITIES leading to the liberation of Eritrea out of OUR PROBLEMS? Needless to say, the top priority at this point of our history is to deal with the with the DICTATORSHIP of a SINGLE PERSON. In case we forgot, it is Issayas Afewerki Abraha Miratch — born, raised, educated etc ……………in Eritrea; fought in Eritrea for his OWN PRIVATE AGENDA , with extraordinary patience >> maneuvering >> deception and cruelty. Are we TRULY ready to have ONE FREE Eritrea, for a common interest and development for the benefit of the Eritrean people as ONE ENTITY.? I leave the answer to each and every Eritrean wherever we may be. THE END .

    Footnote
(1). Eat your heart out, trump.

    • Fetsum Abraham March 16, 2020

      Dear Rezen;
Like I said in the past time and again, our situation is not unique to the history of mankind nor s our experience more devastating that other experiences in history (jewish, south sudan, Cambodians, Vietnamese, .Rwandans, spouth africans, Syrians, Iraquis etc.).there is no need to be overly bitter but vigilant enough to do the right thing and change the situation. that is all we have to do and we will do it in time like the others did it in their own pace..
I believe this is the best situation for us to change it: Isaias is fully exposed to no more own the capacity to do it his way. The Ethiopians know him very well and we do. More than that, ERITREA as a country and society tells its story without opening the mouth. Relax brother and don’t rush it beyond its natural speed. Of course we have been slow but it does not mean we cannot do it. To me, he is not even a subject to talk about for he is dead alive confined to Adi Hallo and so I don’t give him more importance than he deserves. What is next is my question now instead of him.

U said:.: What is his next agenda? and the answer is NONE> it was to disturb the democracy in the region but everyone (the Ethiopians and our people) stopped him before he starts his war for survival. he is back to square one and even below it. therefore, his plan is to wait for that day snoozing in Adi Hallo. PEROD!
Forget his dream to be the region’s EMPEROR, he could not even be an equal partner in the democratic air of the region. NO body wants him around like he has the CORONA virus and in fact, Abiy seems to understand it now: he too is distancing himself from his in my opinion.

Just relax brother and don’t waste energy on emotional discharge! It will be over soon and get ready to buy me the cup of coffee u promised in the past in Campostato!
