Addis Ababa (AFP) – Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn was re-elected as prime minister Monday for a second term in widely expected result with the ruling coalition holding all seats in parliament.

The 50-year-old Hailemariam has overseen a smooth transition in the vast Horn of Africa nation since he took over in 2012 on the death of strongman Meles Zenawi.

Hailemariam was unanimously elected by the House of People’s Representatives, the lower house of parliament, by all 547-members of the ruling coalition, the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), who won all the seats in parliament in elections in May.

“We successfully completed the implementation of the growth and transformation plan… we will continue to deliver the sustainable, rapid, double-digit economic growth, which was registered in recent years,” President Mulatu Teshome said, promising economic growth of “about 11 percent” for the next five years.

Hailemariam himself did not speak, but is expected to make a speech in coming days when he names a new government.

Ethiopia, whose 1984 famine triggered a major global fundraising effort, has experienced near-double-digit economic growth and huge infrastructure investment — making the country one of Africa’s top-performing economies and a magnet for foreign investment.

It also remains a favourite of key international donors, despite concerns over human rights, as a bastion of stability in an otherwise troubled region.

Hailemariam — in Ethiopian tradition, known by his first name, meaning “the power of Saint Mary” — is a Protestant, the first to lead Ethiopia, where the majority of Christians follow Orthodox traditions.

In a country long dominated by its major ethnic groups — most recently the Tigray, the ethnic group to which Meles belonged — Hailemariam notably comes from the minority Wolayta people in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region.

We better leave Ethiopian politics to its owners handle
themselves because it doesn’t concern us more than they
do . And I hope some intruders in this forum leave us alone too . Fair enough ?

    • Tesfit October 6, 2015

      Ahmed,
Are you saying any political development in Ethiopia doesn’t have influence on Eritrea? I disagree

      • AHMED SALEH !!!. October 8, 2015

What good influence we expect to expect different
outcome from a country with negative history ?
History is a good lesson to stay realistic person
regardless what others interpret you convictions .

        • Musa October 8, 2015

          Brother Ahmed,
let’s look forward, the bloody history of Ethiopian feudal rulers was in the expense of the overwhelming majority of Ethiopian nationals and social groups which were marginalized and humiliated by those backwarded feudal rulers but currently Ethiopia has a relatively good governance where the people are ruling themselves and making good progress in all aspects of life. We as Eritreans, can cooperate and learn from their experience after our sun rises.

          • AHMED SALEH !!!. October 8, 2015

            Brother Musa
Is that offensive to say leave Ethiopian internal affairs to it’s people and to request the same from
            uninvited intruders ?
What is the point that agitated them doesn’t make
            any sense .

    • Asghedom October 6, 2015

Ahemed Sakh read the things as information . please go to Yemen help there your brothers after all I don’t think you are Eritreans . why It makes you so angry news from Ethiopia . I am sure if it was from Egypt you will be very happy.

      • Mebrahtu G. October 6, 2015

Asgehdom, You made your point at the beginning which is wise, but then you broke it by lowering yourself than the person you were accusing. Why did you need to mention other countries and I don’t like the sentiment. If you are Eritrean do not weigh people with different scales. Remember Eritrea is 50/50 right and Eritrea is for all Eritreans.

        • Wedi Keshi October 7, 2015

Mebrahtu or Ibrahim, when did you do the last counting of your 50/50 findings? Next, are you going to come up with 70/30 to Muslims and therfore Arabic should be the only language in Eritrea?
Why is it you so called opposition deleyti fithi can’t stand free speech and view of people who disagree with you? I believe you are supposed to fight for freedom and democracy in Eritrea and yet you come to lecture others about no mentioning other countries and what ever you mean by different scales!
Ethiopia as a neighbor and as it is also giving refuge and free education to our Eritrean brothers and sisters in its country, everything to do (peace, development and even elections) with Ethiopia is a concern and business of Eritreans. No more wise advises and lectures please from your likes.

      • Araya Berhe October 6, 2015

Kubur haw ato Asghedom, you’ve said and put it wonderfully. This person by the name of Ahemed Sakih is unbelievably arrogant and ignorant to say the least. He always comes with irritating and irrelevant comments and yet he tries to sound like wiser and more nationalist than the rest genuine deqebat Eritreans. But what is more annoying and unbelievable is that why he gets special treatment and protection from Assenna, unless of course he pays extra for his protection and exception!

        • Araya Berhe October 6, 2015

please correct the name and read as Ahmed Saleh. Thank you.

      • AHMED SALEH October 7, 2015

        Asghedom
Reading from given comments , I said early
to leave you alone than get mixed up at
your political affairs with screwed people.

      • Musa October 8, 2015

Asgedom and your other names here,

Man beating the old drum of hate is not working, demo.archive.assenna.com is not the right place where socially sick people can drop their garbage. Go and search a web site where socially sick people shout at each other. Assenna stands against injustice which is being practiced on our people by the mafia regime of Isayas.

    • Suleiman Salim October 7, 2015

      Yes, fair enough!

      • AHMED SALEH October 7, 2015

Beware not to cross terrirory which you don’t belong like uninvited intruders .
Wise people can not get offended at simple advice to walk away from other
people political issues out of respect to their choices .
Assenna forum is our own house where some scumbags comment can’t and
will not easily intimidates genuine Eritreans to go down at their level . I
think our upbringing defines the moral value we inherited from the way
we talk and the way we act .
It make a sense to see facts clearly with open naked eye . Again I conclude
by saying that I don’t get surprised or feel personally offended from words
        of hate group .

Ethiopia’s Hailemariam re-elected prime minister; SO WHAT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • kibrom Tesfazion October 6, 2015

I am happy to see Hailemariam is re-elected. May God
    bless his second term.

  • dhanet October 6, 2015

The Ethiopian government is not very popular among Eritreans but the average Eritrean is not resentful of Ethiopians so good luck to Ethiopia with Desalegn H/mariam as its prime minister once again.

    • AHMED SALEH October 8, 2015

Typical majority Eritreans humble attitude toward Ethiopian people , well said .

  • Tes October 7, 2015

Good luck PM Desalegn! I really envy of yours and your country achievement. Who would thought you would be the leader of that great country back in 1988 in Addis Ababa University when you were a fellow student. To some of Eritreans I would like to advise them to get real and work hard to get there than belittling achievements of your neighbor. What could be greater news than the election of PM of our neighbor? It really make me sick as a person to see my fellow Eritreans pretend as if Ethiopia progress as irrelevant. It is more relevant Eritrean to see change in our door step than destitution. But some live in fear which in their head and oppose anything to do with Ethiopia and decimate hate. They are the product of PFDJ school and they will never free themselves.

    • Wedi Keshi October 7, 2015

Bravo brother Tes, your usual calm, wise, intelligent and farsighted views and comment. There is simply no more to add to your brilliant comment except to express my admiration for a great man of principle.

Does they sound Eritreans with their wicked
intentions ? Gid forbid me if I am wrong .

      • Tes October 8, 2015

        Brother Ahmen,

I think you have deep seated hate against Ethiopia & Ethiopians. It is absolutely under your right who to love or hate but to give identity to others is beyond me. I am sorry to disappoint you because I believe in most of your comments you look like concerned Eritrean. Having said that you jump from left to right like child whenever Ethiopia is mentioned in this website and act like a spoiled child in his grandma’s yard. I believe this forum is for everyone not only for few chosen individuals. It is a platform to express ideas nothing more or less. Yes we have problem with the governing bodies mainly the elites in both side of the border but most of us we don’t have the slightest problem with the Ethiopians or specifically with Tigrians. Remember country is a creation of people but people is created by God there are natural. It is not anyone choose where to be born. My advise to you is to stick to your principle than picking fight with everyone differ from your thoughts. If you believe they are Ethiopians why answering them or me.

      • Simon G. October 8, 2015

        Brother Ahmed,
I think you misunderstood my comment. I meant why do we have to argue about trivial things. If he is re-elected, good for them.

        • AHMED SALEH !!!. October 8, 2015

          Simon
Don’t worry , there is no misunderstanding between
both of us . We are at same page , brother .

            Tess
Assenna forum and asmarino are the witness of some
commentators negative reputation against Eritreans .
You can accuse what isn’t part of myself doesn’t
disturb me . Be honest and speak the truth . The
prove is clear in front your eyes in this forum .
I agree this forum is for public discussion but
not with ugly people with ill intentions . And
we want let them enjoy free ride to abuse assenna.
By the way why do you distort things to mix Ethiopian
people ? Who spoke negative toward them ?
I am not sure if you are indeed the real Tess we know
in this forum , it smells fishy .

GO,GO ETHIOPIA GO. You are on the right track and we are so proud of you. I wish we Eritreans had a farsighted and visionary leaders that were accountable to the people like you are. Keep doing what you are doing and make your great country GREATER again, be a bacon of hope to the rest of Africa and shine like the city in the hill.

  • Abiselom October 8, 2015

Ethiopians and Eritreans have suffered a lot as a people because of misguided hardliner leaders.
If only people preferred to put love and forgiveness at the front and discuss their political issues later,
our region would have been a great place to live and also to bring the next generation with bright prospect.
